Superb! Well-deserved award for Mackenzie Brown! She is an exceptional dancer. Her technique is impecable and how lovely, elegantly and professionally she projects to the audience her passion while dancing.
Why are all the comments “sickled feet, no performance, not on the music, bad technique” I don’t see any sickled feet, and I’m pretty sure she injured her foot before the performance. She was on the music and her technique was amazing,
has a lot of potential there. I hope she can work on those intensities of variations and manage to be on point with the tempo. Congrats finishing number one on the scholarship price.
I hope this competition will bring Mackenzie many opportunities to advance her ballet career. That said, this year's Prix de Lausanne is overall substandard. Compared with Yu Hang's 2016 performance (1st prize) of the same variation, this performance is uninspiring. She's sometimes visibly off music and not on her feet. The ending position is completely off (left arm).
Mio Sumiyama gave an impeccable performance for her classical variation; her technique was good and her artistry was lovely and I feel like there isn’t enough recognition for that. Watching this video compared to Mio’s, I feel like Mio deserved a lot more recognition. MacKenzie, in my opinion, showed little to no artistry (facial expressions) in her classical piece and from what I saw, had many other flaws. There was a lack of control in various areas like the sickling of her foot in attitude and how many of her fifths were not crossed all the way (unless, of course, she was going for third position). She also didn’t seem very balanced the entire time. However, I heard she got surgery but I don’t know if that’s true. Either way, both still lovely dancers ☺️
Sickled feet. How did the judges miss each time she did a pirouette, or a develope passe derriere she sickled her foot. Her performance was jerky at best, she seemed not to have control of her movements, there was no flow to any of her variation. It seems the artistic (ooops that's misnomer) directors these days are only concerned with the dancer's extensions,. Perfect technique, or quality doesn't seem to come into it any more. This girl has potential. Problem now, after winning this, she will probably think she has nothing more to learn or work on.
