  • "A Night of Nazz Music" concert was held in Cincinnati OH at the Woodward Theater on November 30, 2019 and included special appearances by original Nazz members Stewkey Antoni and Thom Mooney performing with talent from around the national music scene. The concert was presented by Rundgren Radio and the video was filmed by Midwest Concert Video. Thumbnail photo from the event by Whitney Burr.
The first set featured Nazz songs performed by the special band built for this event and they were joined by Antoni and Mooney for the second set.
The bass player was Probyn Gregory, a Los Angeles-based composer and musician multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, and The Wondermints. He has also performed or recorded with artists including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Badly Drawn Boy, and more. He plays guitar, bass, banjo, keyboards, trumpet, French horn, flugelhorn, various lower brass instruments, and the tannerin and sings.
The lead guitarist was Fernando Perdomo, featured guitarist in the film ECHO IN THE CANYON and its official soundtrack. Perdomo is a powerhouse of the LA music scene who lives and breathes music. LA Weekly dubbed him as "The millennial answer to Todd Rundgren (a founding member of Nazz)". A veteran at 37, he has made a name for himself as an in-demand producer, singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
The drummer was Nick Bertling. Involved in music since the '90's, Bertling primarily made his name as a drummer in Baltimore in bands such as Puddle, Gary B & The Notions, Naked Blue, Alto Verde, They Hear and others. Besides drums, Nick is also skilled at vocals, guitars, keyboards, bass, engineering and producing.
On keyboards was Chuck Wiggins, a Cincinnati-based musician that loves to entertain people with a variety of musical genres - pop/rock/jazz/folk/international. He performs as a vocalist and/or instrumentalist including the accordion. Wiggins has opened for The Intoxicats a couple of times recently, a band that includes Michele Rundgren.
Additional performers included Elle Crash and John Powhida. Crash is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with a long history in Cincinnati music's scene (JetLab, Lovely Crash, Fairmount Girls). She is one of the founding members of She-RA, the first-ever all-female Todd/Utopia tribute band. Powhida is a singer/songwriter with multiple Boston Music Award nominations and his songs have been featured in episodes of My Name is Earl and Men in Trees. He has sung on recordings by The Click Five, Sarah Borges and The Gentlemen. He performs with Boston rock and soul combo The Rudds, and his own creation - - - John Powhida International Airport, a potent 6 piece rock, disco, soul, pop fusion entertainment unit of the highest original order that just released a new album titled "The Bad Pilot". He is also the singer for the popular Todd/Utopia tribute band, Hermits of Mink Halloween.
Cincinnati's very own Gary Griffin made a guest appearance on keys for two songs. Griffin is best known for performing as a keyboardist and vocalist with The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, Jan and Dean and The Surf City Allstars

My friend, Steve Scorfina, original guitarist for REO, Pavlov's Dog, and other bands was invited to join Nazz at their stop in STL while on tour. Steve said..."he really didn't know their material and Todd wasn't there, but a guy named...uh...Stewky or something gave me the invite, but I politely declined."

This concert is an amazing contemporary celebration, revisiting the (drastically under appreciated) short lived band from Philadelphia… the "Nazz"

Thanks for posting this!! I will NEVER forget opening the side door of the venue when we were setting up, & greeting Stewkey & Thom. Real freakin’ rock stars, ya know? Old guys just like me. Except they have talent!! They’re bad-ass performers! Same as this awesome band. So, how did I get that opportunity? Well cause Doug Ford teed it up for me! Another badass! Little brother Chris Williams made his trip to Philly by trains & MegaBus, as is his usual transport (all over this country, joining me as he so often does, for these cool RR events) to film these shows for Uncle Doug & Ms Mel’s events. With up to 8 cameras, & takes hours to edit them. Sending love out to all the TRibe & sure do miss you all. All the best, Corky & Chris from KC.

Ramshackle, for sure, but good fun. Would have been nice if the guitarist in the hat would have played with more discretion rather than just ripping away like some one-man show.
Great to see Thom Mooney on the drums, though sad to see him struggling....
    Nazz were a cool band.
Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to watch (as was the interview clip).
