It looked like this was going to be a really cool figure but the voice box was a major disappointed you couldn't understand what ED-209 was saying.
Except for being a little pricey, I really have no complaints at all, he's awesome! I never expected much in the line of articulation, It's not an actual action figure to be played with on a regular basis and I mean he couldn't even go downstairs in the movie. lol He's meant to look mean and badass on my shelf and he does the job well!
The legs do move you just didn't try hard enough. They made them a lot stiffer with a ratchet joint because the first release had very loose legs.
This is the 3rd version of this model.
1st Version (2013) - Blue Tint, Loose Legs, Thinner Wires on Hand Guns
2nd Version (2017) - Silver Tint, Ratchet Legs, 30th Anniversary on Box
3rd Version (2022) - Silver Tint, Ratchet Legs, Thicker Wires on Hand Guns, No 30th Anniversary on Box
This is dated 2017 as well. I don't think there is a difference aside from the anniversary logo.
@@truerc The wires are thicker than my original 2013 model but they could have been changed on the 2017 too. Like I said in my previous message the main difference between this model and the last one is the 30th logo. Apart from the loose legs though the color on the 2013 version was a lot better. In the movie he is a blue/grey color not straight silver like the last 2 versions.
Are the sound effects different
@@josephjoestar5444That Im not sure about, I haven't tried mine for a while as I took the batteries out so they didn't corrode over time. But from what I can remember the sound was a little tinny and never one of its strongest points.
Misleading title. I came here hoping to hear actual arguments against why it't not a good figure. I can hear him fine as well. This is NECA, a toy company that's maybe one step above Hasbro and Macfarlane. In fact, if it were Hasbro they'd probably charge $150.

I don't really have a problem with the voice box but the fact that it does not have much articulation is upsetting. It would have been cool if people could do stop motions of it walking. But I have to say, the detail is great!
The sculpt and look of it is spot on and looks fantastic on the shelf. The sound's not that good but as it's only a display piece, it's not that important.

I just bought this from my local target for $80. But I couldn’t help and noticed you, as well, broke one of the locking plates on the legs. I too broke it too. Ironically it was that exact one. I think that was another flaw they did to the figure aside from the toes not being articulated.

I agree, the torso shoult be able to tilt up and down and maybe toes too.
No complaints…just got mine today from BBTS…sound chips were great; details were off the chart.
The ED-209 toy should have been bigger and have a more beefer sound effects, but it looks awesome, Seth that review was solid
Just got one yesterday, broke the plate right above the outer right leg, just like the one in this video. Leg was tight! I thought it was a flap to release it...nope.
I wanna get this it looks pretty cool. I dont care for articulation as much as sculpt and how good itll look on display. I feel sometimes people expect Spiderman articulation on every toy lol

Man was looking forward to this. May have to skip it. Hiya toys makes a 1:18 scale ed 209 that has better articulation and paint if you're into that scale.
Looks like the same bit broke off the leg of yours as it did on mine. Sucks.

$100!? I got him years ago when he was first released, not sure what I paid but it was $75 max. The box is the exact same, and the several years between releases they didn't even think it necessary to mention that he talks. I've been pretty happy with him for what I paid but I can see being disappointed for $100.
Any idea if this will scale well with the Mafex Robocop?
Huh, when this first came out I only paid $60 for it. Theres a model kit that came out last year of Ed-209 in the same scale that has great articulation, Im currently building that myself.
Hiya Toys has toe articulation, best Ed-209 by far.

Over $100 for a toy that has less articulation than a $20 toy. I had an Exo Squad toy from the 1990s, the really cool thing about that toy was the fake hydraulics in the elbow and knee joints, as you'd bend the knees to elbows you'd see the fake hydraulic pistons sliding in and out of one another and that was only a $20 toy at the time.
For a $100 toy it should have the knees able to bend with the 4 hydraulic pistons on each knee joint able to slide in and out of one another, the feet and toes should have more articulation as well.
I have one, but I wanted neca to make cain aka robocop 2 but I want it in big scale!!

At Least He Has Sound Effect's. 😃👍. I Think That They Could Have Done The Same With RoboCop By Making Him Talk, Those small Circle Batterie's Would Have Worked. And NECA Should Make THE POLICE CAR For RoboCop. 🙏😃👍.

I really like the full length firing sound of poor Mr. Kinney getting riddled with bullets lol. I wish the Hot Toys ED-209 firing sound was full length, but it's a little shorter. Can't have everything I guess. But it does have the option for a damaged arm and the sound quality is very good. Of course, the price is a harder kick in the nuts than the Neca ED though, by far.

I had one back in 2014. The voice box sounded fine on mine. The articulation worked well(wish there was more though). I only paid 70 bucks back then so Id say well worth it. 🤷

ive been wanting an ED 209 since i started collecting again in 2013, missed the original but finally got the new one today. £95 (UK) a bit steep for what it is as others have said but its an early birthday present so i didnt pay for it :D. they also had the ultimate Robocop but i didnt get it as i already have a Robocop, but now i'm thinking i should have.

I agree with everything you say, I just thought that Ed 209 should be a little bigger too.
I want one, just to have an ED-209 to go with my RoboCop figure, but that price sucks for what it is.
The new Ultimate RoboCop is also nothing to write home about either.
Mine has splashes of different shades of black in the black top area which is a bummer. Still other then that a very cool figure. Whenever I pass by it have to press the button.
I got my Ed 209 awhile back... It still holds up but the price is disheartening for new collectors

I know I had to get it because I grew up in the mid 80s and robocop and predator are some of my nostalgic faves lol. And I don’t want to look around at target wasting gas haha. @@acehole2b nice 👍 do you still have your Ed 209. Just ordered mine today lol. I had the old Ed 209 from late 80s 90s was much smaller but it had like a ratchet waist and was very solid.
Its still a nice display piece even if the sound effects are shit.

@@hhinojosareef1 nah it’ll be around for a couple years retail , just saw it a target for 84 bucks , somehow I will get it for 50 guaranteed. I don’t knee jerk when it comes to new figures .
He does good enough for my stop motion. Some toe articulations would have helped with the walking cause can’t really film his feet now while walking, but it works
rw:in one alternative scene when kenny was shot and killed,he survived and it was almost like he never got killed ,and it was a weird alternative scene as that.

Actually this is one of the better ones compared to the other brands that's why it's a little more pricier
rw:speaking of "swap out parts" when you mentioned when ROBOCOP shot ED209 with that 50 Caliber Rifle maybe they could've included those pair of legs after ED209 got shot and blown up,just recreate that one scene youknow?,and btw that scene was kinda funny too.^_^
The only qualm I have about mine are the lack of toe articulation, which is only a big deal to me because 1) we saw them move multiple times in the movie and 2) it could add some variety. The voice box could definitely be clearer, but I never leave the batteries inside due to corrosion (made that mistake once---forgot there were batteries inside, and there was dried battery gunk inside my Diamond Select Enterprise 1701-E). I would say the price was painful too, but I could also say that about the price of garbage bags, lunch meat, and frozen pizza. EVERYTHING seems to be more painful on the wallet nowadays, so whatever.
If I were to call NECA lazy in any regard to their "RoboCop" line, it would be with their recent Ultimate Robo figure with that flimsy Cobra Assault Cannon and horrid muzzle effect. Fantastic Murphy sculpt, but that spring-loaded holster is absolute garbage and the articulation still leaves something to be desired. But I digress...
For me, this ED-209 looks incredible on my shelf, which is currently looming large behind my 10+ year old pre-spring holster NECA RoboCop and my Hiya Toys 1:18 RoboCain. Sure, they could've done a little more with it, but it's hardly a major disappointment for me.

Good video with good points in the review, I'm agree with you, and it is an action figure not a statue, but I think NECA just trying to save desing costs, but I would prefer more articulation than sounds, they suck anyway.
It'd be awesome if MAFEX made a remote control walkable 12inch ED-209. :) I'd buy that for a dollar. In addition, it'd make farting noises :))

I got the hot toys version a few years ago for about two hundred, so this seems a little pricey to me. The sound from my one is actually no better than this is, lol. Cool look, shame about the articulation.

Wow, that audio sucked… get an Arduino, an mp3 module and some better speakers. then pull and edit the audio from the BluRay. With the Arduino, you can program different ways to induce the sounds you want rather than hitting 1 button to play in a pre-programmed sequence. Where the manufacture fails, be creative and fix it to the way you want.
You got to fix the exposicion on the footage :)
thanks for this review, bro. now i am not so sure i want to keep my pre order for it. i mean like you said for the price you are being charged for it, there should have been more to it, including an exploding body feature. so, when you have robocop shoot him with that sniper like gun and blows him up and all that's left is the legs. oh well, neca should have done better.

The sound quality is abysmal and he has barely any articulation, Even compared to the movie.
If if want a barely articulated ED figure, I'll look for the 90s one from Kenner. At least that one has a nostalgic appeal.

You want a good 7” scale ED-209? Try getting a hold of the Moderoid Model Kit. Sure you gotta do a little painting, but it's got all the little articulation points we needed. Doesn't include any battle damaged parts, but you could probably make some for it since it's a kit that can be taken apart.
P.S. For anyone wanting to get the NECA figure: DO NOT BUY FOR 100$. That's what I did long time ago, and it is NOT worth 100 dollahs. Try to get it for about 40$ or 50$.
I think the Ideal price would be 30$.
If NECA wants to sell ED for 100$ they need to update his articulation, and give him accessory's.
There will never be one that cheap unless it's broken or at goodwill or something.

Please learn how to normalize your audio all at the same level. Your mic boom is up and down, up and down.
prolly one of the worst toy robot ive ever seen...... reason why i only buy TF's and super robots in terms of articulation.... japanese robots have insane amount of articulation, hands down
That's cause most Japanese robots are humanoid where this is a bipedal like machine.

i got this over a year ago and was super disappointed with it. It feels cheap and the articulation really killed it for me. The smaller cheaper Hiya toys one is better articulated. I tried to give it away and no one wants it

Id like to get into collecting some of these, but every time i go to target, theres like 2 or 3 creepy looking dudes ALWAYS there haunting the neca section waiting for re stock. As soon as the boxes come OUT theyre next to the employee practically helping them price tag the item so they can take it....i always wondered how sad it must be, to spend all day walking weirdly around a dept store waiting for dolls to get stocked.😳. No offence to any one here, they look cool...but wtf...
