Seen:
Spring Breakers = meh. Found it to be stupidly weird.
Free Fire = better than I expected. Was quite entertained throughout.
The Losers = meh. Got kind of bored despite the amount of action.
Dead Man = absolutely hated it. The artistic aspect was not for me.
Blue Valentine = just okay. I did really appreciate the acting & chemistry of the two main stars.
Winter’s Bone = solid, but not high on rewatch value imo.
Not too intrigued by the others that I haven’t seen.

I remember watching Winters Bone when it was released and was mesmerized by JLs performance.... watching that I thought she was going to be a star
About Spring Breakers, before watching I happened to read a review that made a big difference.
The director wanted catch the mood of a generation raised themselves and MTV, and portray the boredom and thirst for excitement. So if the movies starts slow, don't worry it's intentional for the contrast! This way you better get in the mindset of the characters.
So instead of a glorification of sex, crime and violence, see it as a parody or guilty pleasure movie.
Whitaker was actually a lifelong martial artist, when he made Ghost Dog, even though the movie isn’t really about that.

Fantastic list. One movie on Max I don’t see anyone talking about is Strange Days starring Ralph Fiennes and Angela Basset. A cyberpunk noir thriller. I just saw it last week and frankly adored it. I never see anyone talking about this, and it isn’t even available on Blu-ray.

Yes! Great movie. I had no idea it existed until maybe a year or two ago, and I was almost mad when I heard about it lol. Should have been on my radar decades ago, not sure why it isn't talked about more.
Love the channel. I think the best term for many Jim Jarmusch movies is "Vignettes". Many of his movies are several to many of them somewhat loosely pieced together (to me)

Really excited to check out The Rover and Winters Bone. Havent heard of either one of those. I dont remember you recommending Rover before at all but I probably just missed that episode

The losers was great! Loved the cast and characters and their relationships. Would have really liked to see a few more with this crew.
Great list. Dead Man is rambling, seemingly pointless, insanely slow and confusing...and absolutely unforgettable in a way you might quote for the rest of your life. Stick with it, and it will fuse with your brain in a way that movies rarely do.

Free Fire is a real hoot! It really catches the 70s vibe of the setting. And I can tell you from experience that it's just about the best depiction of how a gun fight between mostly-untrained people goes. And you'll never hear a particular John Denver song the same way ever again.

I have been a huge fan of Citizen X since it first came out and I saw it in 1995. I was already familiar with the story because I had read a book written by the FBI profiler who ended up assisting Donald Sutherland's character get information to Stephen Rea's detective character. And at the end of the movie Sutherland is talking to Rhea about the case and tells Rhea that the FBI agent said to him that he would be terrified that Rhea's detective character would have to be the one tracking him down if he was a serial killer. And Jeffrey DeMunn doesn't get enough credit in his portrayal of Andrei Chekatilov.
Another excellent crime film from HBO that came out 4 years after Citizen X is every bit as good was Excellent Cadavers, about the assassination of Judge Giovanni Falcone by the Mafia in Sicily because of his determination to bring them to heel. Chazz Palmintieri and F. Murray Abraham have excellent rolls in the film. It should be on one of your lists.
This is a great list my only complaint I’ve seen all but 2 of these, lol. One of those two really interests me the other not so much , so thanks for a bringing a new film to my attention keep up the good work!

oh yeah Winter's Bone was a heck of a movie. Very well done. And yeah I loved Ghost Dog as well. A little comedic in spots but it worked.
I've seen about half of these, and Ghost Dog is my favorite on the list.
Just wanted to say I saw Willow Creek in the theater and Bobcat Goldthwait was there for a Q&A. We met him afterwards and he is just the nicest guy!
Citizen X is well-worth multiple airings, and I'm about to add another one now! And like Darren said, you absolutely DO need to watch Ghost Dog and The Rover.
OMG someone recommended John Dies at the End. One of my favorite books of all time and the movie is what convinced me to read the book
I love The Losers. The Expendables and The A-Team both came out pretty much at the same time with it but those 2 were terrible.
John Dies At The End is one of my favorites. The book and its sequel, "This Book Is Full Of Spiders", are both brilliant.

Good list, I’ll check it out. One complaint about the video, if you’re doing a paid promotion, why ads during the video? I got an ad every few minutes and that was irritating to deal with.

Under the Silver Lake was like if Hitchcock did Lebowski. Far out flick that I enjoyed a lot for its originality.
John Dies At the End , one of my favorites, Under the Silver Lake is a unique watch, Ghost Dog cult classic, and surprised to see a few ive never heard of. They are on the list... I currently have about 500 film collection and just keep adding to it.
I've never seen Winter's Bone, but I'm 100% it's gonna be spectacular, thanks.

I had a friend telling me to watch John Dies At The End for YEARS. Finally gave it a swing about a year ago and I’ve watched it probably a dozen times. Holy shit I love this movie!!
It’s goofy and off the wall lite sci fi in the vein of Bill & Ted and Buckaroo Banzai

John Dies at the End is based on the book of the same name written by David Wong. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the movie. It's more of the same, but with a little extra.

I just watched INTERSTATE 60.
2002. Never heard of it and it was spectacular.
Willow Creek is EXCELLENT! Bobcat also does all the Bigfoot sounds and noises in the movie as well, check it out, it’s really creepy!
WHAT! Under The Silver Lake is one of my favorite movies. I was hooked watching UA-cam videos and reddit forums trying to solve all the mysteries in the movie. Excellent film.
Citizen X was absolutely amazing...the story is shivering
I agree ghost dog is one of those movies that past me and I finally watched it when it came out on the criticeon blu Ray. The movie is very good and is very grounded story wise. It’s is a movie that is philosophical in its story and doesn’t rely on expensive set pieces or explosions. It’s good character focus movie and happy I own it cause it is one of those movies to watch and watch again when you are in that thinking mindset about things in life
Citizen X was surprisingly good even though (or possibly because) it appears to be low budget. Worth a watch.
The Rover was a flick that I caught by accident and it’s really well done.

I'm Vibing the Gist of Your List Hard Today. I'll refrain from recommendations (for once lol) and just gush over one title in particular. Under the Silver Lake is *PHENOMENAL.* Garfield's thus far BEST Film and one of the *BEST* SciFi Films *EVER.* 👏👏👏 i Love how in the last ten, thirteen, or fifteen minutes or so it adds Dashiell Hammett, Mickey Spillane Hard-Boiled Detective Crime Thriller to the list of Feather Accolades in its cap.

The Rover is my mad max!! Free fire is fabulous for those who enjoy close nit,one setting location films and winter's bone is grade A! Small time crime with hawkes was outstanding! Always a pleasure big D😎👍

The saddest “love dissolves” movie HAS to be “9 1/2 Weeks”. The whole story is beautiful, vicious, tender, & cruel revealing at the end two damaged people who were just lucky things didn’t turn out worse. LOL! One of my favorites.

2 scenes from Citizen X that I really liked.
The first is when Donald Sutherland / Col. Fetisov has been promoted and is now in charge of militia in the region.
He's lists what Stephen Rea / Burakov had asked for years before and been denied, Burakov shall have it. And he has a phone call with the head of the FBI serial killer unit. I think an incredible thing to have manged to arranged. Fetisov tells Burakov how it turns out that the FBI admires Burakov. That Fetisov has treated Burakov poorly, not understanding the stress Burakov was actually under, and apologies. Burakov rushes out of the room, and can be heard crying. Simple scene, no fuss, a wonderfully delivered monologue by Donald Sutherland. Two men, constrained by their positions, and the expectations on men at the time, as emotional as their society would allow, unable to really express themselves.
The other was Burakov tell the militia on parade how they were going to behave and conduct themselves.
"Do you think you are capable of performing these task? Do you think you are capable of performing them without subtly? Without discretion? Without tact? Good"
Just watching Citizen X again. Joss Ackland is excellent. I don't think he's on screen for more than 10 minutes, but he's absolutely terrifying as the local KBG officer who wields so much power in the region.
Pretty good picks! I’ve seen all of these and can also vouch for them, except Free Fire which I found boring and unoriginal with a wasted cast. Sorry! But everyone should see Ghost Dog and Under the Silver Lake. Winters Bone had four Oscar nominations so maybe hard to call it “underrated” - but great movie.
Some lesser-known gems I can add that I think are still on Max: Living in Oblivion (dir. Tom DeCillo, with Steve Buscemi and Catherine Keener), Tampopo (dir. Juzo Itami, funny and sexy), and Cronos (dir. Guillermo del Toro, his first feature).
Pattinson was amazing in Remember Me.

While John Dies at the End is bonkers, it is 1/1000 as weird as the book. Both are awesome, but the book is insane.
The Losers was definitely a fun watch. I think the end was a little silly, but overall it was a much better A-Team. Spring Breakers was definitely worth a watch if only for James Franco's overacting and all the scenes of 4 ridiculously hot 19-21 year-old actresses in bikini's or having sex (sadly in more of a PG-13 way than R). Citizen X is a spectacular film with great acting and unbelievably high levels of suspense. Great addition to the list.
