I can’t stand remakes. Ive always been team remaster+QOL improvements /port to new hardware. It seems a lot of game announcements these days boils down to “you get a remake, and you get a remake!” and they’re all games I’m like cmon man most of these either hold up or were first released not that long ago. I don’t mind Bluepoint for example since they’ve done a good job and have more artistic integrity rather than just going in for the easy cash grab.. but most, even if they’re pretty well made, seem to be just a safe cash grab. I have mixed feelings with Metal Gear solid 3 being remade. Imo the PS2 Subsistence version released in 2005 was a masterpiece. A lot of details in that game either wouldn’t fly today or wouldn’t translate well to how games look now. A lot of it has to be cut. If anything MGS 1 would have made at least some sense or if they were really ambitious adapt the MSX2 Metal gear and Metal gear 2 stories. MGS2 seems destined to not be tampered with remake wise.. Konami please don’t. I love the character models and just the art+music in general in the og Silent Hills. I played the first 3 a couple years back and while some things didn’t age well and were frustrating to adjust to I was very impressed with them and they looked great on my CRT. The subtlety, subtext and overall dread is something I don’t see working in this remake the way it did before. I agree bro I loved the design of the faces in the older games. The closer games get to looking lifelike gives me that uncanny valley feeling I never got until this current generation of games. Limitations breeds creativity. I’ll take the Silent Hill fog or San Andreas’ heatwave orange colour palette over the Bloober and Defective edition any day!
I’m gonna play devils advocate and say that going with silent hill 2 was a smart move on their part because you don’t need to know anything about the events of the first game or any other game. It stands on its own. But the thing that bothers me is they gave their prize gem to an inexperienced studio who never did combat (even tho SH2 was never a combat game) which makes me worried. However, bloober team knows how to make good atmosphere and environments. But we will see, I liked what I saw and I think this is miles better than SH ascension and better than getting nothing.

Sometimes I’m not, like Final Fantasy 16 I had no expectations and thought it was gonna be like Stranger of Paradise (fucking hate that game) but it blew my mind how awesome it was. I really agree with your comments about the character design and how everyone felt dark with an undertone of sadness/evil in them. It seems like that subtle but ultimately critical (in my opinion) bit of art direction has gone by the wayside. I'm with you not loving the motion capture stuff either. I can say with certainty that I'll eventually pick up the game, but it won't be a day one purchase for me either. Not unless there's some limited edition or something that would otherwise sell out. In some ways I like the series enough to keep it alive and support it even if it's something equivalent to Frankenstein's monster. Though I definitely won't continue to buy the games if they release bullshit like Book of Memories. Personally I continued to like the series all the way through; I know many people didn't love Homecoming or Downpour but I got a decent bit of enjoyment out of them. Are they as good as the originals? No. They're still fun though. Even if Silent Hill 2 remake isn't exactly what I would have wanted I'm still hopeful that there's a future for the series if the game draws in a bunch of new attention to the games. At some point the design may be too divorced from the original direction that I may lose interest but for now I'm not going to let SH2 remake get me down on the series too much.

Even though the Silent Hill series is not my cup of tea, but the remake of Silent Hill 2 looks horrendously trash. The remake is a disgrace to the iconic franchise and the franchise many gamers grew up with. I'm looking forward to the remake, but I will admit the game could still use A LOT of polish. It's extremely subpar when compared to the RE remakes and Dead Space remake. And when compared to modern AAA games in general. The character models, as everyone has already pointed out, look like they're from a PS3 game. The animations are extremely stiff and janky looking. The sound effects (especially gunfire) are extremely weak. And when switching weapons, or pulling out a weapon, there is NO animation. The weapon just instantly appears in your hand. No animation of pulling the weapon out or switching from one weapon to another. And it's the same for picking up items in the world. I notice you press the 'interact' button and you instantly have the item. There is no animation for actually picking it up, like there is in nearly all AAA games nowadays. Like when James finds the bloody letter in the road, for example. The interact button is pressed and the letter is instantly in James hand in front of his face. No pick-up animation at all. Sorry for the wall of text.

To me personally the gameplay looks super weird too, it's like the gunfires and hits don't have a weight to it., and that's something that all original silent hill games did really well despite the janky controllers, when you hit an enemy you can feel the impact and the weight of the weapon. I don't know, I hate that they hired a "police of thought" to check what can be said in modern days and what not, I hate the visuals, I hate the gameplay. It seems like they don't give a fuck, and they don't understand the material. I'm not going to spend a cent on it

They probably just look at it like: “oh it’s like Resident Evil!” No. I’m a huge fan of RE and this isn’t a RE game. RE focuses on body horror and classic Hollywood horror films like the Romero zombie flicks and later onto other type of horrors but no, as you said Silent Hill is about the human psyche and it’s basically James’s own personal Hell. Now i focus on indie and classic games, there's a LOT to catch up on too, so I'm not even missing anything. I feel better not supporting these companies who talk down on us and purposely ruin what we liked. These days, there is a real effort by the fans, just all on it's own even. Fan games, fan remakes, and especially some fan translations that have allowed me to play games i missed out on before. This is what i look forward to, seeing what real people are doing, because they're doing what those big companies won't do. No one knows better than ourselves what we want, we don't need those companies, they need us. We need to remind them of that.

Not really, only person from Team Silent actually putting work in it is Akira Yamaoka who is doing the music. Masahiro Ito only gave them his blessings but didn't actually contribute any work into it as he was initially against the idea of remaking the game. This is all done by Bloober.
I first played silent hill 2 original wen i was only 12 in 2000 im 35 now I expected at least a remastered version of SH2 but no we get a gender confused version of SH2 with no maturity whatsoever. Im not buying this game only if they fix wat they've done to our beloved females xo

I played SH2 a few times and Remake looks really nice. I will not hate on the game (yet). If it has bad story or too bad gameplay, then yeah but so far it looks really good.

I slightly disagree. At worst I think it looks bland and not pushing the envelope. It looks fine and will likely play fine. But it might miss the smaller story details that put the original SH2 in a league of it's own. I think the negativity around the game is a bit too much personally.

Im done with remakes. I'll take a remaster, MAYBE. Remakes have been changing too much and missing the point much of the time. I also don't like how often times when a remake comes out the new audience begins to talk bad about the original and those who like the originals

Silent hill 2 remake is a complete waste of time they cannot recreate this game again ever but because they tried now its completely ruined. Im a gay fella and even I would always stay close to Maria wen playing the original Silent hill 2. Now the remake has Maria looking too casual and innocent to have anything to do with their version of the story. Im so sad now :(

Not really, only person from Team Silent actually putting work in it is Akira Yamaoka who is doing the music. Masahiro Ito only gave them his blessings but didn't actually contribute any work into it as he was initially against the idea of remaking the game. This is all done by Bloober.

I first played silent hill 2 original wen i was only 12 in 2000 im 35 now I expected at least a remastered version of SH2 but no we get a gender confused version of SH2 with no maturity whatsoever. Im not buying this game only if they fix wat they've done to our beloved females xo

I played SH2 a few times and Remake looks really nice. I will not hate on the game (yet). If it has bad story or too bad gameplay, then yeah but so far it looks really good.

I slightly disagree. At worst I think it looks bland and not pushing the envelope. It looks fine and will likely play fine. But it might miss the smaller story details that put the original SH2 in a league of it's own. I think the negativity around the game is a bit too much personally.
unless you are stuck on console, just emulate the original for free with upgrades from mod makers
