My First Time Flying On An Airplane

  • My brother and I flew from Midway airport in Chicago to BWI airport in Baltimore. We took Southwest Airlines and flew on a Boeing 737. Our flight lasted a little over an hour and yes, we had a crying baby on the plane. Flying was interesting but anything more then that and I’d rather walk. 5/10 prefer to drive.

    Always been my favorite part of a flight. It's an absolute miracle that these huge, heavy things just go up in the air!

    Not going to lie. In my school, everyone flew on an airplane before they were your guys’ ages, but to be honest, the school I went to was filled with people who had rich parents.
    My first time flying on an airplane was when I was two, but I was not really someone who flew very often growing up unlike my classmates. I do remember liking the way the cabin looked, but that was about it since I was really young.

      @@DanSmithBK Thanks for asking, Dan! As it turns out, I loved flying! At first I had some nerves and concerns, but I decided to just sit back, relax and trust the pilot. Funny thing is, we had 2 planes that had to go back and be grounded due to flaps problems. I was not happy when the pilot said, sorry, folks, we have a problem! But, we went back and got on other planes. The layover in St. Louis & San Diego on the way to Phoenix was really fun for me as I have never been on a plane, so I go to experience take off and landing 3 times going into Phoenix and then going home we had plane problems and we had to wait 6 hours at the Denver airport for a plane back to BWI, so another take off experience there. Flying in the evening coming over Baltimore was beautiful and the sun setting was awesome. I collected some little souvenirs from all the layovers. We flew out over the Pacific Ocean when leaving San Diego. So, as it turns out, my fear was worse than reality. I took many pictures and many short videos from the plane. I'm glad I finally took the chance and got on a plane. I'm 60 in 2 months! Took me awhile. Hahaha. The reason for the trip is really what caused me to just do it. My father loved Arizona. He visited many times and wanted to live there. Family owns land there. Due to the recent passing of my dad, family wanted me to see what dad loved and walk the streets and trails he walked and loved. I never went with him due to my fear, what a pity. We made a beautiful memorial on the property for my dad. So, if not for that, I probably would have never gotten on a plane and would have lived with the fear of flying forever. We are now planning a trip back to check on the memorial and add to it, clean it up etc. and I want to visit the Grand Canyon some more and hike more. I still have many places dad loved and walked that I have to experience as our time was limited to 5 days and we just could not do it all. I loved Flagstaff and if I ever get a chance, I think I would like to retire there. My father was quite taken with the Grand Canyon, as was I, and I guess everyone is once they see it. Anyway, thanks for asking about the first plane trip!

      @DanSmithBK 4 роки тому +1

      Cindy Long well, I’m sending you good karma for the touching way you honoured your Dads memory, and I’m sure he’d be pleased to know that you overcame your fear of flying. It sounds like you did have more technical problems than normal, it’s not usually that much of a pain, but agreed - seeing the world from an elevated perspective is good for the soul! Have fun when you next book a ticket and experience the big wide world some more!

      Sitting over the wing is the smoothest ride though because you're in line with the centre of gravity, as well as the centre of lift, so you have smallest amount travel when the aircraft pithches either up or down, imagine a see-saw. If you're sat on either end, then you go up and down A LOT!, but if you were were to sit right in the middle of the see saw, above the apex, you'd barely move at all. It's the same principle. Always try and get a seat closest to the middle of the wing.

      @@sammywildflower1617 yeah it's temporary. Only 10 or so seconds and feels like an elevator. Nothing to be scared of. I think you will find planes to be smoother than cars for the most part.

    • @styrennyoon798
      @styrennyoon798 2 роки тому +3

      @@sammywildflower1617 The sinking feeling is caused you reached a takeoff phase called the thrust reduction & acceleration altitude. This point is where the engines start to spool down from takeoff power to climb power, and the lowering of the nose to increase speed - hence the sinking feeling. But rest assured, the plane is still climbing :).
