  • Unfortunately, another mend this week - I had an awful noise coming from one of the rear bearings and the last time I had one of these I left it for too long and it pretty much welded itself to the rear axle so this time I jumped on it straight away. In fact the last rear bearing that went was this same corner and there's a good reason as to why it's gone again (my fault 😳). I was determined this time that I was going to do it myself but things didn't exactly go to plan.....
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy the video.

Before fitting a new bearing it all needs to be clean. Filing the hub may put filings into the new bearing so that should be done before fitting the bearing. When pressing in the new bearing use the old one to press on the outer ring of the bearing only, otherwise some press force may be transferred through the rollers as extreme pressure onto the rollers and the bearing surface damaging them

Yes , only the outer ring of the bearing should be pressed else the 12 ton press can damage the bearings again if it was pressed in contact only with inner rings

Mine went both sides in quick succession, replaced with SKF (OEM anyway) about 5 years ago and they've been fine since.

Agreed, Another great video. I've noticed the price between a new hub compared to bearings is £5 - £10 more for the hub with the bearings already in. Assuming this is dependant on the car. Doing the bearings does make for a more interesting video

What's the price difference between buying bearings and labour cost to fit it compared to a new hub?

From memory I think hub assemblies are about £70 each, pretty sure a pair of bearings can be had for £20. I’ve paid £20 to have two bearings pressed out/in in the past, depends how friendly your local garage are I guess

@@MendItModIt Thanks I got it done at the local garage, £100 to replace bearing driver front right, the car is so quiet now and probably more fuel efficent so hopefully I can make a bit of that money back over time👍

Filing the hub with the new bearing already in is not a good idea, you’ve no control of where the swarf/filings are going and you don’t want them in your nice new bearing

Love the tutorial real help although next time you should grease the stub axle protects it while also preserving your bearings

Hi mate , doing the same thing here . Where can I get the whole hub from can’t seem to find one anywhere unless I go for second hand

You need to pack it with grease as well wont last as water get in the back ram as much grease in both sides will last longer

I'm able to just look at your facial expression, and see that it is the wheel bearing.
I know that expression too well..
The dreadful anticipation of a horrible few hours.
EDIT: But f*ck me, you bought an actual press for a wheel bearing change?! I thought I took the easy road with the press kit in a box ^^

When you had the bearing on pressor ( new bearing ) what was the black attachment? You used to push it down ?

Just a piece of metal i found that was the right diameter

    • @cowsgoloka
      @cowsgoloka 25 днів тому

@@MendItModIt Not good if that piece of metal was touching the inner rings.
The metal should have a relief inside so that I does touch the inner ring.
Else again the possibility of premature bearing failure is more. 😢
