That Chinese man was fighting for democracy, and faced death or torture. He also didn't know their was cameras around and he didn't wear a suit for a photo op. What she did shouldn't even be compared to what that man did. The tanks the guy was blocking were going to murder hundreds of people. These cops? Trying to protect the community and prevent them from blocking traffic. I agree with her cause on some level, but this is just stupid.

While it is a nice photo and I agree that excessive force and the killing is a serious problem that needs to be resolved now, I don't believe this is the way to make a stand peacefully and safely for everyone. I am concerned with the message it's promoting of disobeying the law. It'd be different if the police said, "only white people can be on the street and black people over there." I don't believe anyone should be provoking the police (who are already on edge) to do something to you and have witnesses again. Maybe I just don't agree with the way some people choose to protest now. There needs to be a refresher course in the Civil Rights Movement, are they not teaching this in schools anymore? Civil Rights protesters followed the laws, but protested inhumane laws and planned very strategic protests without violence and provocation. Just my 2 cents. Peace!

I disagree because I want the world to see our suffering, I’m not saying to hurt people or destroy things I just think that we need people to be provoked into action.

She walks in the Street, despite being told not to by law enforcement in a volatile situation. Therein lies the issue with all of these controversial police cases. Law enforcement enforces the law...Comply with law enforcement, and they will not have to use force on you. That simple.

This isn't an iconic photo, or even that good of a photo by any means. It seems like it's trying to be forced as a "beautiful" or "powerful" image about the state of police. The composition, the light, and the angle are terrible. The only redeeming aspect is the figures gesture is a tad interesting. While an interesting assessment, comparing it to the Tank Man is a fucking joke. The Tank Man video captured a man standing and stopping a line of tanks from massacring more protesters for democracy. Chances are he might have not even been involved, and was leaving the store. Nobody knows, because he was never identified. Nobody even knows for sure if he was later arrested. The man had to hide the footage he was caught shooting by dropping the film in a communal toilet and hoping nobody came by and used it when his room was searched. The image of his fuzzy silhouette against the line of stopped tanks is powerful. Everything from it's composition to it's subject is endearing. This picture, forced on us, will be forgotten once the protests inevitably fail and die down.

The graceful pose of this woman, standing peacefully in front of a huge horde of policemen, who are all dressed in riot-gear, guns ready, cable-ties ready, and yet all that meets them is a single silent protester, and they come to tie her up and drag her away.
She looks calm and graceful, they look scared and violent. It’s a superb photo which will be admired and studies for many, many years after we have gone - THAT is what makes this an Iconic photo.
