    Excellent video, Sir! This works on later model Rodeos as well; I just did a 2001. I experienced a couple of things that might also help a bit if you happen to be doing this for the first time. As the video shows, remove the entire plenum... you'll appreciate the extra room to work in! The author mentioned finding some rounded-out 5mm hex screws. You can help avoid this by cleaning out the built-up dirt in the screw heads so your 5mm hex will bottom out for a better bite. Use a small awl or a bent paperclip to dig out as much crap as you can before you insert the Allen, and make sure it's not going in at an angle. I needed to move the A/C suction hose out of the way of the booster and did so by loosening the firewall clamp you see just above the middle of the screen at 3:53. TAKE YOUR TIME! You do NOT want to drop one of those 5mm screws into the engine compartment... they're hell to find, believe me! Of course you're going to clean up all the hardware you removed with a good solvent and a brush; it will slide right back in like new. Don't overtighten those cover screws! 6-8 foot-lbs. is plenty! (Learned the hard way many years ago) Do them like head bolts; "X" top-bottom from the center out. Hey, as long as you have everything apart anyway, why not toss in a new PCV and clean up the throttle plate a bit? Now all you have left to do is figure out what to use the $200-500 you just saved by watching this video!

    Okay, future reference: This worked perfect for me: Buy a $8-10 tiny bottle of Screw Grab. Get the proper T10 in socket type. Use a q-tip and clean out the hex heads. Add 1 drop of the Screw Grab stuff into the head. Then put the T10 bit in the head, then carefully tap it down tight with a hammer. Once you are confident it's seated properly into the head, then careful pry on it. IT WILL COME OUT VERY EASY after that. Seriously, this even worked on a rounded hex head. I have the '94 Isuzu Rodeo. Now onto trying to get to the last 2 bolts on driver side to remove exhaust manifold.

    Well this will help me out so much since I am about to go at this task here in a few.....yes I am a women with a boyfriend who has no faith in me being able to fix our vehicles but I can fix his in 30 minutes (I waited a week with his 6 buddies before I stepped in). He says I am more man then women making me wonder if that is a compliment or insult.
    Thank You for this tip any others are more then welcome since it may take me 2 days or so to do. Oh joy.

    You saved me hours and my sanity! Thanks dude. Thank took 20 miniutes and I had that valve cover right off. I needed it for the 97 Rodeo but it all worked the same. I had one rounded out bolt as well. I'm having trouble finding a replacement. You know where I could order a new set? Probably just gonna have to find a suitable replacement otherwise. Thanks again!

    The four nuts to four studs is attached to the other side of the firewall. Because its so high up you will find if difficult even seeing the studs and nuts much less undo them unless your head is face up on the driver side floor of the vehicle. Otherwise you have to do this blind. I bring this up because we aren't all 5'8". I'm 6 3". I don't see how to do it without squeezing myself between the steering wheel and the floor of the vehicle, face up. Otherwise, it'd be an easy job. Am I missing something here?

    Do you have to drain the oil to change the valve cover gaskets? Every video I watch doesn't show what the preparation is before you start!

    • @rontontui
      @rontontui  2 роки тому

      No you don't have to but if you haven't in a while I would anyway. There will be some oil under there but you don't lose all the oil when you take them off.

    I have a '99 Passport as well and oil is leaking into my spark plug well. Did you do this to replace the 'o-rings" on the valves? Or was this for something else?

      Have you figured it out? Those things are such a pain. Easiest way Ive found is take a small flat head screwdriver stick it in the end of the clip and lift UP while wiggling the connector til it's somewhat separated then you can use both hands after that.

    Had to remove the master brake cylinder and the booster together to access to the two rear bolts. Tighten bolts to the specified torque of 0,9 Kg.m looks to me easier without the booster.

    Well guess what guys I was able to get my driver side cover off and to that bolt in less then 5 minutes because my hand fit in that tiny area to get the bolt off and never had to do any of this. the only part that sucked was getting the electrical off the engine. other then that took me an hour total to get both covers off and to get pissed off because some idiot went and painted the inside of both covers. Oh JOY!!
