- Опубліковано 10 жов 2024
- This wonderful 1981 episode features two classic moments: The most miraculous Cliffhangers win ever and an even more miraculous Double Showcase missed by only $4 (second best in the Bob Barker era)
Part 5
1. Cliffhangers--Carol plays this game BADLY, only a miracle could save the mountain climber from its tumble...watch what happens! Features a rare cameo appearance from producer Roger Dobkowitz!
2. Showcase Showdown number 2 - Розваги
LOL "That is a stupid mountain climber there". And 1 minute later he fell off the cliff while the constant won.
"The machine's getting old." And still in use 35 years later.
Even making an appearance on the Wayne Brady LMAD.
I thought they hand crank it now?
I think they replaced it.
The motor failed once in primetime on February 12, 2003.
cliffhangers samoan CAROL steady wins a prize... and the CLIFFHANGERS machines getting old
I just love how classy the female contestants are all dressed! Superb
I wonder when it stopped being this way.
Somewhere around the late 90's, I think.
I remember when all those fashions were in style
I was thinking the same thing.
Watching those old Price is Right episodes brings me back to my childhood years in the 1980s.
This one actually had me on my toes! More excitement in a row and hilariousness than any TPIR than I've yet to see. :-) And poor Roger! LOL He looked like Bob was going to fire him on the spot. God love him.
This brings me back to my 80s childhood!
I love the sound of the buzzer. That was an older buzzer. This one is in the key of D. The buzzer used now is a combination of the keys of B and E-flat
3:04 **ducking behind the Cliffhangers setup** "That's a stupid mountain climber, that's all I have to say "
HAHAHAHAHA
Even the Yodeling Guy never pays any close attention.
It’s 3:05
@@zombie9234 Had to account for UA-cam's inability to timestamp in frames, 3:05 cuts off the beginning of Barker's sentence a touch.
Big mistake to say that Bob, Roger became the executive producer years later!
I love everything about Cliff Hangers - the game's premise, its ever-climbing anxiety level, and its cheesy Alpine graphics, right down to the little happy wanderer with his lederhosen and pickaxe...and, perhaps most of all, its unmistakable, unforgettable yodeling. The gameplay aptly changed it from a silly and festive tune to a ominous and menacing dirge. I swear, the greatest mountain climbers alive would drop bricks in their GoreTex if they heard that tune arise from out of nowhere while scaling K2.
And it's a magnificent victory when players manage to stop the climber right at the $25 apex. I'd say it's even more satisfying than watching him blithely wander upwards and plummet to his demise...which is hugely engrossing in its own right. Forget Michael Bay's latest two-hour CGI sensory assault; just give me a reel of the Cliff Hangers mountain climber succeeding and failing, nothing added, nothing subtracted. Now that's entertainment!
Sean Wilkinson My friend, you have articulated EVERYTHING I had ever feared about this game when I was a 5-year-old at that time (1981)! My older sister used to prey upon those fears quite mercilessly, I’ll tell you...LMAO
Rest in peace, Bob Barker. 😂
I always enjoy when the cast and crew get their moments of fame.
True
I wasn't even playing the game, yet watching that fucker go up that mountain and yodel made me more and more tense as he reached the top.
Rob went from stagehand to producer. Nice
Yep. He had a similar role on "Match Game"
Bob Barker beat the truth out of that intern for hours after taping...
Roger is not an intern, he is the main game operator for TPIR and still there too this day!
Timothy Parry Jr
Bob trained him good after that beating.
Probably, yes, lol
The machine was almost 5 years old at this point(does that validate Roger's claim that the machine was "old")?
Timothy Parry Jr what does it look like
4:24 Now that's what I call an April Fool's clip.
3:04; My favorite line of the episode.
I like how Dian would tap the price after revealing it.
I love malfunctions and improvs, great tv!
It was a miracle Cliffhangers win AND did not follow the typical $20-$30-$40 prize formula haha. Darn expensive tableware! 😂
Damn Bob owned Roger's Ass twice 😆
4:31 - Oh, wait a minute! Carol, you did win!!!
Good memories from my childhood
$19 new shoes GTFO.
Damn inflation
Inflation was way higher in 1981 than it is now. This was the tail end of the stagflation era.
@michaelstipefan777 Considering the game is still being played 30 years later, (and it was only five years old at the time), that line is even funnier now!
really interesting i wonder when they starting the old "anyone you want to say hi to) during the big wheel spin.
Barker era but not too long after this. I watched this religiously in the mid-1980s and I think they did by then. ‘81 still had the black and white Dalmatian and shoppers’ market vs prize money on Wheel of Fortune too.
The Yodeling Guy goes loco in the coco.
Roger Doccowitz...know your math, dude! Your aviator glasses were a fail! But your long 80's hair was rocking!
Bob was old when I was young. It feels strange to me watching this...
The "getting old" bit comes from the first act, where Bob commented that some of the girls (such as Kathy McDonald {now Kathy "Fingers" Greco} and Barbara Hunter) had aged since the show started.
"The machine is getting old!" - Roger Dobkowitz
bob barker i always watched the price is write when i wasent in school i love that show and i am a fan of yours also and i will love to meet you and i think you should make some movies like disorderlies2 with the fat boys
Yodel guy is a great game
$62 for Tableware in 1981? my we've come a long way.
Lots of things were more expensive dollar to dollar (ie not even factoring in inflation/conversion) to now, mostly as it was higher labour costs (things were not manufactured in sweat shops overseas).
Tariffs made products sold in America expensive too. The cost would be passed to whoever bought them. Trade was not really open between the U.S. and most countries 40+ years ago unlike today.
I always wanted the cliffhanger to go over the mountain. %-D
Me too.
Ditto.
Funny to think that all that crap she wins today is probably either buried in a landfill or collecting dust on a shelf in some middle america thrift store. 😅
Roger dobkowitz ftw
I like how they call the waffle iron a "waffler." I can't recall hearing that term anywhere else.
I like how they call a group of silverware tablewear I can't recall hearing that term anywhere else
This is gold.
3:22 Look at Bob's face! LMAO
That green jacket bob has on is very sharp
Roger "Edward" Norton got his start on TPIR!!!
"and we'll be right back after these wor..."
Roger later became the executive producer
I don't remember that episode but I can tell you what Bob Barker thought the yodely guy was stupid. He's not that stupid he just knows how to climb up the mountain.
This could also be a miracle Showcase Showdown to.
This segment features "Cliffhangers" which is a fun game, starring the Yodeling Guy, and it had its moments. The Yodeling Guy fell off and she won the game by accident. The price was $62, but she guess $61, and the Yodeling Guy would've got into the 25th and final step to stop him before he falls.
After the game, Roger Dobkowitz made his first TV appearance on camera as a guest. He also made his brief appearance as a judge on many of the episodes.
It's not the only time the climber failed to stop when it was supposed to stop on 25, and they've had to award technical wins.
Is this that the first time Roger appeared on camera?
People used to look more decent and beautiful back then. I miss Those day.
Awesome raj
Is was cheap in 1981 cause remember CBS had a money limit ay the time.
That was the most angry I ever seen Bob ever….
You can see back then, Yodely Guy was wearing a green hat rather than a white hat and he looked a little different from today's Yodely Guy design including his eyes. If those were the only two regular designs of Yodely Guy, when did the current one debut? But if there was more than one design, can someone please tell me their differences and when they debuted?
Did you ever find out?
ya i know he had a mustace
I think I’d rather lose than win a weird piano that I would have no space for in my house....EDIT: Three Thousand DOLLARS.....
Where is that Roger guy today? 2019
Enjoying retirement, I imagine
I believe he became the executive producer of the show
Roger!!!
Conditions for Cliffhangers:

All American products. Wow.
how many quiet ones the mountain climber has been drinking
it's cold up in the mountains haha
@ 1:19 the sting movie theme Joplin - The Entertainer
IMHO, doesn't Roger look a little like Herb Alpert?
You killed the guy for nothing! She was right! Arrest that intern for sending him to his death!
lmao
Plus, is that Roger's first camera appearance?
@xXTHEXxxXSACKXx This was before Dorthy Jo's death, not to mention all the lawsuits.
Roger would later go on to produce the show.
Tf was that guy saying when talking about the freezer? Lol
I saw a Cave-Man in the auidence
Nice crowd ! Not like the wild banshees that are on the show now.😋
Has there ever been an occasion where the contestant guess all three prices correctly?
Yes, in the '90s, I believe.
4:26 He fell off on 25 and wins.
I bet hans had one too many quiet ones
@4:26, when did the current crash sound debut?
Is that first TPIR appearance by Roger Dobkowitz?
What's the name of the song they play during the piano reveal?
It's Scott Joplin's The Entertainer
@@HeadlessJimothy Oh, thank you! It was just one of those songs I've heard a bunch of times but just didn't know the title, and you can't look it up because there are no lyrics, lol.
@@BlueToronto I was on the same boat as yours few years ago. As someone not that emerged into pop culture, I discovered the piece by accident tho and I was as delighted to find out it's the piano cue that I kinda wanted to look for.
Roger that
Who's was that guy with roger
NOT CUSTOMER!!!! :(
4 min 26 sec lmfao
Rachael and grace looks hot .
Once I realized this was a winner, I stopped watching... ;)
So the mountain climber was saved after all and didn't end up paralyzed like Christopher Reeve.
horrible guessing by the fourth chick in first segment
😅😅she one
4:26 aw I got dead again
This game stinks
Shit
1981 had boring prizes
to us but not to them. For it's during the time before video game consoles became mainstream as computers were still very expensive to afford at the time as VHS tapes were still in development.
