  • MariKate and I attempt to install a Welded Wire fence for the first time. It was actually easier than expected. Took about 7 hours (mostly because of purchasing mistakes) and $430 for 200ft of fence.

    If no one else has mentioned it, you don’t tow with the hand wench, commonly called a “come along”. Use your tractor only as an anchor point and tighten the fence by hand cranking the wench. Otherwise you can damage the wench and you lose the advantage of being able to adjust the tension by sight and hand. 0:38

    nice fence -- good job! i love RedBrand Welded Wire Fence 72 in. x 100 ft. strong , tall and easy to work with.
    i began using 5/8" rebar for fence posts in the 'body' of the fence. works for less important areas.

    Just FYI- that cable puller is what we (in GA) call a “come along.” Hook one end to your fence (couple of 2x6s bolted together on opposite sides) and the other end to your tractor. Crank it like a winch.
    I grew up doing this kind of stuff, so it’s nothing new to me, but it’s a pleasure watching y’all navigate the territory and problem solve together as a team. Well done.

    • @gabrielpline7490
      @gabrielpline7490 2 роки тому +1

      @@johnretired8213 well you can do it a “pro” way or you do it country. Pro way would be to stretch twine and chop down / uproot anything along a 2’ path and throw up the fence. Country way would be to find the straightest path through and use existing tree trunks as “posts”

    Thanks so much for your video and for explaining all of that! I’m putting up a fence for the first time for our chickens and goats. What did you use to attach the fencing to the wooden posts? Also, can you stretch a fence without using a tractor or four wheeler?

    • @leonaearly5503
      @leonaearly5503 2 роки тому

      There are U shaped tacks (that’s not the correct word) that simply nail into the wood posts to attach fence. I, too, would like to know how to stretch the fence if you don’t have a tractor.

    • @Kakadoodle
      @Kakadoodle  2 роки тому

      We attached the fence to the wood with post nails: 3/4-in Leg x 1/4-in Round Crown Standard Staples (1-lb www.lowes.com/pd/Grip-Rite-3-4-in-Leg-x-1-4-in-Round-Crown-Standard-Staples-1-lb/3043059

      And ya. You could stretch without a tractor, but would probably want to use a winch: www.harborfreight.com/8000-lb-cable-winch-puller-69855.html

    • @garrickward6143
      @garrickward6143 Рік тому

      Yes, simply attach the instrument they attached to the tractor I'm pretty sure was a type of " come - along ", and just hook other end of cable,(should have a hook as well, to a tree or even a temporary post in ground places properly for leverage), and that red handle on the come along will allow you to "crank" or pull the fence tight. Just moving the arm or red handle up and down will slowly pull the cable against the post or tree or tractor and you don't have to move the tractor, just the handle and it will pull together which is the purpose of that instrument.
