    When using the mower (and I've done it many times with a Cheetah) to blow off driveways, roads, etc. I've found that putting the throttle all the way up, and not using the whole deck but only the chute while driving backwards, acts like a blower (not a vacuum) and works better than what you were doing. Not trying to tell you how to do your, but more like giving out advise. I haven't been mowing for as long as you have, but I've done this more times than I want to mention.

    I know what time of year it is if I'm watching your videos. Very enjoyable.I got my riding mower stuck in a ditch the other day and I was trying to find videos that might help me with tips. I have a fairly steep slope I need to mow on. Not sure if you have steep slope vids. I do love your videos. Very relaxing. Love the Cheetah!

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  7 років тому

      I have a couple where I was mowing at quite an angle, but it didn't tip. Basically I generally would go straight up and down a slope. But there are limits.

    • @Pancakeshouse85
      @Pancakeshouse85 7 років тому

      Yeah, it's tricky, because the slope is rather steep. I'd rather mow it by hand than get in a serious accident. I know it's more work but it's not worth it to me.

    That yard looks fun. Disbursing all those grass clippings looks like a bit of a challenge though. I finally bought a new mower. I didn't end up getting a Scag though. I was looking for a stander style mower, and I just didn't like the feel of the V-Ride. The way its set up, you kinda hang off the back of it, and it still kinda whips you around. It felt similar to the sulky. I ended up going with a Hustler Super S stander 36". The yards down here are generally a lot smaller, so I figured I would start with a 36" and get a 52" as I get larger yards. I will make a video on it tomorrow when I go pick it up.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому +1

      Cool! You got a new mower! Curious to see that. I never really checked out the Hustler Stander. I know what you mean about the the V-/ride. I don't like that platform either. That's why I'm restoring the Super Surfer. The platform is between the rear wheels, and barely above the grass. Congrats! Anxious to see the vid!

    Hi Mike, Another Great one.... I Think the Cheetah did Great..... You know it was Interesting to see the Tall Grass and cut grass just go right up under the Deck... I was Thinking it was so Tall that it would come up and over your Deck but Surprisingly enough it did not..... I'm assuming that is that Velocity Deck to blame it on Correct ? I have Seen Other Mowers Struggle Badly on Thickness like that but the SCAG did Great !!! Did you say you mowed it down to 4"inches ? The Weed Eater part was also great & Very Cool to see... Cleaned it right up..... Excellent Vlog !! Thumbs Up !! Friend :) Enjoyed That.....

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому +1

      Well the velocity deck does help greatly. And yes, the final height was 4" but the first pass was at 5". Glad you liked it!

    When mowing thick tall grass like this mow it up higher first then drop it a inch untill you get to where you want it will make the clipping alot smaller and when ur done it will look alot better also make straight lines and use the full width of your deck and cut one dirrection an turn around and come back you want to cut a nice even pattern ive been mowing for over 10 years never used a bagger and when im done it looks as good as any bagged yard

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  6 років тому

      Good advice. I do that sometimes. Things are quite different in what you can do here in Florida though. If the ground is dry enough you can do that. But it's usually a bit soggy and that method would make ruts here. 28 years by the way doing this. I've learned to just do what I can.

    Use a mulching kit. I'm in Florida also. With my toro in that yard. It would have mowed it down one pass. Then go over the clumps (if any) at full speed.

    • @Lucasssss96
      @Lucasssss96 8 років тому +2

      the side chute cuts much better then mulching would at that length. Actually at any length for that matter.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому

      A mulching kit, in summer?

    • @rcmaniac87
      @rcmaniac87 8 років тому +1

      +Something 2LookAt yes. Not sure what region of Florida you are. Lawn care rookie loves his and has a vid on it. Stanley genedek runs them on his mowing crew. Bermuda is the only grass we have to consistently go over twice (second time to pick up clumps.) but those yards are few and far around the Clearwater region. Mostly Bahia / st Augustine.
      You don't have to be as cautious of which way you mow. No chance of shooting a rock out and injuring someone. Less debris to blow off.
      The biggest downfall is when mowing super tall thick grass. Like overgrown. It'll really bog the machine down since there is so much to digest. But that's not something I get into often. Or at all anymore.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому +1

      Duane Sachon Ok, good point. And I would agree that on average height yards a big mower would be able to handle it nice. But you're not saying to run a mulch kit on the yard above are you? I'm in this stuff all the time. Sometimes big acreage. I really don't want those mulching baffles permanently on there. I might consider it on a mower that's never gonna see the thick stuff.

    Its kinda a pain, but in cases like on the side of a house in between two houses, instead of blowing on a house, I go at a angle then back up a little then do it again till I have most the clippings in the bigger yard then even it out. Especially when a little wetter clippings that stick like glue.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому +2

      I've done the angle thing you're talking about. It works pretty good. It would have been a bit more of a challenge on this one. Ultimately the best answer is a mulching door and I'm going to make my own. If the grass had been wet or full of sticky weeds, I would have mowed the sides with my 33. It would have been slow but it would've done it.

    I absolutely hate bagging grass- I dont even advertise that I do it. But, for the rare cases where a lawn is like this and we have to bag it or basically create a carpet of thatch I do bag but I charge 3x the rate of a normal mow. And, we dont haul off the grass either. Every year we get a call from someone near the end of May who hasn't cut the lawn yet.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому

      I know what your saying. I'm looking forward to those first time May cuttings, lol. And yes, if I bagged something like this, it would be 3x the rate. But this customer doesn't have 3x the money. It wouldn't have happened. But I saw that it would make a good video so I did it and UA-cam pays me the difference. I would do it again. :)

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому

      This yard is bermuda, st augustine and bahia. I actually don't know what fescue is. I'll look it up. It might be in there too. This yard did tend to clump a lot. Is there fescue in Florida?

    • @yowmemperor
      @yowmemperor 8 років тому

      Thanks. Probably no fescue in Florida. Too much consistent heat. LawnCare Nut, when he lived up north, B&B Lawncare, pretty much in lawns north and midwest. cooler season grasses, deep green, thinner blades. cut heights range from 3" in spring to 4 1/4 in summer. any lower and it will force dormancy when combined with heat. we can grow bermuda and st Augustine here in Missouri, but its short season, starts growing in June, dormant in late September

    Covering the same ground a lot to get a fine spread.The whole lawn would be yellow in a couple of days for up to a week with the cuttings if i done that here. cover the ground once and collect it leaving a near perfect finish. But if your custumers are happy and your happy all is good.
    I just wouldn't get away with that here on any residential work. I always strim first to either collect or spread further out.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому +5

      This is Florida. What I meant when I said "Everything disappears" is that it composts very rapidly. The yellowing you're talking about does not happen. I get so many people saying that so I am going to include a "2 days after" follow up on my next cleanup. I understand what happens where you are, but Florida is an entire different universe. Which ironically is part of the problem. Customers know this. They know what these big mowers can do and they know we're just mulching into the yard and they know the whole thing will look like it was bagged when we're done. Thus, they have no problem stringing out the cuttings to save on money. And for me, eh, I'm having fun. No worries.

    My honest opinion is your using to big of a mower noticed some scalped parts of the yard. The biggest thing we use is a 55” in that’s for dried up retention ponds. Other than that we use 36” or 42” you should try the same. Remember bigger the mower= more weight more weight equals harsher on the yard.

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  6 років тому

      I have all sizes. 61, 52, 48, 33. I prefer to use the big one. It's the strongest, fastest and I get to sit down. In 28 years doing this, my customers never said anything like what you're saying. And I don't get fired often. I don't think it's that bad and I don't think my customers would really even care. You are however correct. I'm just not gonna do it. :)

      I was thinking about when you said you've never used a UV filter on your cameras before. You could put one on just to keep all the flying lawn debris from dirtying your lens, might be easier to clean?

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому

      Daniel Pendzich Oh, I remember you now. Hey, I did try that UV filter for a bit. I didn't like what it was doing to the color of the grass. I was actually having to do the tint filter in the editor to make it look right. Otherwise you're right. Since the actual lens is recessed and hard to clean, the screw on filter lens would really help. I wonder if they make a completely flat and clear filter? One that does nothing?

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому

      Oh no, that Great Dane can't mow like this. The cleanups will still get the Cheetah. Ha, yes, it would be great to put a Scag sticker on there just to confuse everybody. I'm also trying to think of a way to leave the paw prints on the fenders. It will certainly be one of a kind.

    • @James-uc2nd

      Something 2LookAt you could buy new paw prints and scag stickers :}

      James's Garbage Trucks And Other Vids No. But I also haven't looked at Hobby Lobby. They have like a million stickers there. There's gotta be some giant dog prints there.

    I would've pulled those lights out of the ground before starting to mow and I also would've used a lawn mower with a bagger

    • @Something2LookAt
      @Something2LookAt  8 років тому +2

      Ok, well, it does allow more string to come out if you want it, and it lets you get into spaces as wide as the head if you need to. And you do need to constantly. And no, it doesn't stress the machine. This 223L is about 3 years old under constant commercial use. I never installed the guard when I first assembled it. Original head gear, original engine, original shaft.

      I know, it looks like all my yards are disasters. The truth is that most of my yards are weekly, well maintained beautiful yards. I'm only filming the disasters because they certainly have more of a "Something to look at" appeal. But I get that question a lot.

    Get a ocdc chute blocker and you would be shocked how much it will help you, especially while mowing next to neighbor's grass. When you mow a yard you just kinda wing it with no real plan. Drives me insane! I must like being crazy because I keep watching your videos. Keep them coming.

    No worries - the second pass got it! Turned out beautiful!
    The Scag pulverized that grass. That lawn got fed! Would have been a shame to take all of that free organic nutrition away.
