You gifted me… YOUR FIRST PAIR OF STRIPED SOCKS?!?!? 💗THIS MAKES IT ALL THE MORE SPECIAL!! I love every single thing you do, beanies, sweaters, throws, socks - I’m SO lucky to have a collection of everything you’ve ever dabbled in! Love love love the sock obsession
Disclamer I have never sneaked but I was watching a podcast and she mentioned knitting her swatches in the round and then steeking them as a test for how the yarn will do before getting to the whole sweater and I thought that was brilliant and might give you a boost of confidence.
Hei hei! I've been steeking sweaters a couple of times with a sewing machine reinforcement. The oldest sweater has very heavy colourwork with like 5 different yarns of very non-grippy yarn, and it worked like a charm! The armholes are the most solid part of the sweater. I've been wearing it for years, had the reknit the cuffs and the elbows at least twice each, because I wear it through, but the steeks are as good as new! I'd recommend doing a zigzag stitch close to the cut (= the future live edge), and a straight stitch outside of that. Use a stitch width small enough for your yarn: you want all strands of yarn to be caught by the machine stitches. I imagine that you can do a double line of zigzag stitch if you have a very fine yarn? I've never tried crochet steeking, it seemed too flimsy for me, and very time consuming. Good luck with your first steeking, it's nerve wrecking, but so fun as well!!
OH GOSH! You have no idea how reassuring this is! I actually have both a sewing machine and an overlock machine for finishing off seams of garments and am wondering if I can use it as well? At any rate, I am planning on a semi-grippy sweater since it would be made with superwash! Thank you for the encouragement, makes me even more eager to try! :DD
Hello! I love your vibes of your knitting and your artwork!! So cozy and autumnal. I was wondering if you used a pattern for the spotted socks at 18:25 or if you just applied the pattern to a standard pattern? Or if you have a Ravelry page? The colors on them are beautiful and I would love to add them to my inspiration board on Ravelry! Much love
Aww shucks! Thank you for the sweet words! I don't promore my ravelry page too openly but if you search "ghostpuff" on there I am sure you will find it and the sock in question! It just made the dots myself and applied it to a vanilla sock pattern :)) Much love back at ya
Awww thank you so so much!! I promise I will frequent yourtube more often over the colder months! Awww I wish I had a solution for your tropical climate but honestly wool aint one of those... But hey! At least you get to wear summer dresses and straw hats + sandals?
Loved your energy and passion. When you said that you used pixel art to make your own design you just stole my heart fully ❤ I am currently knitting my first project and it’s also socks and sock knitting just speaks to me somehow. So cool to find likeminded people!
Hehe, thats so sweet of you to say! I don't know if I mentioned it but I use Stitch Fiddle to make my wee colorwork motifs. I hope you make the most wonderful first pair of socks, and if by some chance it doesnt turn out perfect, you will have learned all that's needed to make the second pair all the better :DD
AH this sock parade alone is bringing my sock mojo back. So cute to see all the different pairs and to see the evolution of which heel (or other) technique had a chokehold on you. I have yet to try any other heel than the heel flap and gusset, but I also kinda enjoy that one, so I'm not too motivated to change my ways :'D Also, so curious to see more about your steeked cardigan project *__*
Hahaha! I am so happy to bring the mojo back for you! Mine has been slipping away a tad bit, but thats okay, because I want to work on some Christmas gift hats while I can! Haha honestly, I wish I loved the heel flap and gusset - I love the fit, I love the look, but the process is just not my favourite ;_; Maybe you will like the fleegle heel since it kiiiinda has a heel flap part and a gusset?? OH YEA! The steeked cardigan is that same one you and I chatted about on IG so you are ahead of the curve :DD I want to try and film the process!
I love your socks. I find the fleegle heel works best for me. Look for color catchers in the soap section of the grocery store. It works well to avoid bleeding on your other socks. Thanks for sharing.
Heheh thank you Constance! So far i have had no troubles with any other pair of socks, but I usually do not knit with red, which seems to be the main culprit :DD
Hey Mona! Good to see you ❤! Always lovely work! It will be nice if you do the mushroom socks pattern! I would like to try to do my pair :3 thank you for sharing your knitting projects, you are always an inspiration! good luck with the Cardigan project, i am very curious to see this project in the next video 😊
wow, you have done so much and all beautiful. I want to try socks so bad, but, afraid. Have no one to coach me on... Hopefully you inspired me and I will try with a tutorial. 😉
Please give it a go! Its really not too diferent than knitting other garments! The Winwick mum site is the way to go. She has a whole blog course on how to knit socks step by step!
I promise you it's not! If people can do it without looking and even walking while knitting it must be easy right!? But for real, it has a somewhat steep learning curve, but once you learn to do knits and purls, everything that follows is combinations of the two :DD
