Did you notice that the actress (Amruta Subhash) who played Ranveer's mom in Gully Boy also played the Raw agent who controls Nawazuddinin in Sacred Games 2. Such different roles played wonderfully.
The reason why they chose to remove the colour "blue" from the film is that blue colour symbolises calmness and the story was about Muraad's struggle and by not showing blue colour they wanted the viewers to psychologically invest in his struggle and believe that his life is full of problems and lacks calmness so that they may cheer louder when he finally succeeded.. Tbh i observed this during the movie and i really wanted them to end the movie with Saifeena coming to the last concert wearing Blue coloured clothes that would symbolize the thrived "calmness" in Muraad's life..

@@ljtest3621 no I mean the story itself is not male centric. The topic it conveys is male centric due to the dearth of female underground rappers (a separate point). My point is why is it surprising a female directed this particular topic?

The shanties in slums are covered with plastic sheets on top to prevent seepage from rainwater. These plastic sheets are typically blue in color and that is what they wanted to remove from the film.
One of the best behind the scenes I have watched. Just a correction on the color blue that was avoided, this is actually the plastic kinda covers on the roof to protect from water from rains to drain into the homes, so you can see an aerial shot on Dharavi & you will see that most of the roofs covered with this color and this was avoided. So its not the way you understood, but great job!

Blue tarpaulins are used by slum dwellers to protect their inside of houses from rains. And if you see an aerial shot of the slums blue is everywhere but lot of people typify that pattern with slums. I think Director wanted to keep that out so that this known stereotype is not addressed.
Gud review...thanks guys...n just wanted to say that its not needed to delete any vids just bcos some people didnt like your reaction...its just gonna feed their ego even more...when americans who dont know anything about India are requested to review Indian vids its obviously a non-Indian reaction that is to be expected...whether its positive or negative or mixed reaction...dats d whole point of a reaction video...those who dont like to hear what they dont prefer need not even enter this channel in the first place....as it is rick n korbin are saying sorry in almost all their vids for not understanding the languages and they are still taking so much pain in trying to do their best to understand a video in the most humane manner they can...guys, those who are watching this channel and other reaction vids just enjoy it and help by translating and explaining the history of everything...you want them to view all vids abt how grt our culture is...so is it so hard to be understanding, tolerant and forgiving....relax, chill guys :)
To answer Rick's question about acceptance of hip hop: as a person who's not a fan of the genre, it's not that I don't consider it an art form. These guys do something that I'm incapable of doing and they do it with style and make meaning out of it (most times) and for that it's admirable. For me personally, I don't enjoy it. The music, or the lyrics (most of the times). I hate straining to pick the words or get the groove. I want my music to soothe me, not ignite me. That's the same reason why I don't prefer punk, metal, etc. Perhaps, others feel the same way. It's not that they don't consider it an art form, it's just that they can't appreciate it. Those who don't consider it an art form, are not worth talking about because of their limited viewpoint. Hope that gives a perspective to your question Rick.
There seems to be a misunderstanding about not wanting the colour blue. Gulley Boy was shot extensively in a shanty town . The living quarters here are mainly 1-2 rooms tenements with paper thin walls and rickety roofs made of flimsy materials. Blue plastic sheets are put over the roofs to make them weatherproof and stop the rainwater from seeping in. Since almost every one here uses the same blue plastic cover over their roofs, this would hinder the movie visuals. Hence Director Zoya and her Cinematographer considered removing these and asked the set designers to make sure this endless 'blue colour" was not visible. Rick, yes, Blue is a beautiful colour in the spectrum but as you know now, there was a reason for the film crew to remove some of it.
Fun fact... Kalki was married to anurag kashyap.. Director of gangs of wasseypur series, sacred games, raman rakhav2. 0, ugly, no smoking, masaan... All great ones... Now they are divorced
Answer to your question @27:27, why it so much time for the hip-hop culture to flourish or blow up? My perspective: Without any prejudice, the vastness of Indian Music is beyond imaginative. Then the beauty of its music is immense. Then comes the popularity at its own regions or heredity and then comes expanding to new origins, this itself took a long time and still going different places. I hope we are busy and very much occupied with the vast content and its aura around it, so forth not absorbing new. But, if you carefully observe and go into the essence of hip-hop, you can understand that it is inbuilt as some sort of alteration or versions in almost all Indian music. Yeah with the urbanization and west influence, it got tagged or branded as hip hop, but in generic it is and was with it the community for decades. Only movies like Gully Boy are reminding of its existing / transformation, but not the flourishing part of it.

It's not more about vulgarity and profanity in raps atleast in India as mostly all rappers usually keep the lyrics clean. Since you have already dived into Indian classical music, you know how complex it is and how much of practice it requires to achieve some level of mastery in it. So the common perception for a very long time was that rapping is just putting together hard beats and speaking on it, hence wasn't considered proper 'music'.
