    Appreciate honest reviews from working musicians that actually know what other musicians are looking for.

    I've been using the Roland Streetcube Ex for years (guitar, vocals) and serves me very well for small/medium gigs , busking , bars, etc. Cube Ex about 11 lb , in one hand, guitar in gig bag on my back . Easy in & out, quick set up, & nice sound. This Gemini looks to be my next purchase. Light weight & great sound is always a good thing. 😄

    Thank you for this review!
    I was looking at the WRX and it sounds like it is exactly what I need to take to a Burn (like Burning Man, but smaller and local)!
    I plan on using it to watch movies and listen to music in my tent/camping area.

    Would you recommend the Gemini for DJs? Does it have a good base?

    • @ChrisGodbersax
      @ChrisGodbersax  6 місяців тому

      Only if you're DJ'ing on the beach or in some isolated area with no power in which case you'd want 2 of these. The bass is decent for an 8" woofer, but if power isn't an issue then there are so many better options for DJing. This is a nice little unit for what it is, but when I have power available I use my EV Evolve 50's.

    Gemini def sounds better .....and looks to be more user friendly. Regarding JBL....personally was never a fan & pricey. I like physical knobs also.......just works !

    • @ChrisGodbersax
      @ChrisGodbersax  14 днів тому +1

      Absolutely. The JBL has a good sound overall and is great for speaking events, but just doesn't have the volume for music play back. That and the illuminated knobs are useless in daylight outdoor situations so this Gemini just makes more sense for my use so for the price I could have 2 of them and have a lot more sound. .

    Everse 8 тоже не плох. Три месяца назад купил. Вот выходил на улицу в трёх разных местах города где проживаю с разными жанрами музыки на максимальную громкость испытывал. Ролик потом смонтировал со всех трёх локаций. На 6 минут 50 секунд вышло. Съёмка любительская уж, на обычный смартфон. Плохо записывает. Реальное качество не передаёт. Только слышно что очень громко. ua-cam.com/video/HV2vtPn7UDM/v-deo.html прям зверь а а не колонка. Глаза ушам не верят, словно ураган торнадо мимо пронесся ) лайк за видео. И привет из России. 🎉

    I weighed the options a few months ago and I went with the JBL Compact for 2 reasons: one contained speaker and APP CONTROL.
    One speaker means I can get somewhat equal low and high range above people’s head. I owned the Bose L1 compact and, while music sounded awesome, microphone/PA use was not as good as a single speaker up high - for male voices especially. EQ on the JBL works wonders with SQ, but be careful of clipping. Let’s be honest….there’s a reason why they don’t post wattage specs. I don’t think it’s very powerful but it does sound full at moderate levels with the right EQ.
    App control is helpful for me since I am usually a one man gig offering audio support for an event. It’s nice to stand at the back of the room and adjust microphone volumes on the fly and also cueing in music, all from my iPad. In the past with my L1 Compact, I would have to stay close to the speaker’s controls (or run up stage to fight feedback - which looks bad) to adjust levels, obviously missing what it sounds like in the audience.
    Great video!

    • @ChrisGodbersax
      @ChrisGodbersax  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely, in an indoor situation the app is very valuable. Most of my events are indoor ballrooms where I use a pair of EV Evolve 50's with a digital mixer for the same reason. I've pretty much only used the JBL at beach weddings where there was no power for my regular speakers. Unfortunately in that situation the sun made seeing the app and the green lights very difficult. What's the biggest crowd you've been able to use the compact for? I could definitely see it working well for PA Speech amplification.

    • @LarryL619
      @LarryL619 Рік тому +1

      @@ChrisGodbersax yes! The JBL worked really well on my last engagement up to 75 people. I would feel comfortable up to 100 people - 150 if just for voice amplification. I feel it was a better PA for speech than my Bose L1 compact because the lower vocal registers (male voices) sit up higher on the speaker stand, as opposed to on the ground where the bass module sits. I can EQ the JBL to cut the lower bass to push the volume for midrange/table.
      The Bose L1 compact - and probably also the Gemini - sound quality for music will be hard to beat. The wide dispersion and separate bass module makes for a nice hifi sound.
      As for portability I THOUGHT the JBL would be easier to transport but it’s almost the same since I still have to bring a separate bag/tripod. It is a bit more flexible considering the tripod can hoist the speaker 8ft, which lends to more coverage further back in the audience. The JBL and Gemini sits at head hight and gets harder to hear with taller people up front and further back.

    "Peak Wattage" is a very misleading, totally irrelevant, fabricated spec. It has no real, standard, useful meaning, whatsoever.
    It's basically said how much power someone managed to put through the system for an entirely arbitrary period of time (chosen by the tester) before it blows. This can be as short as 1 millisecond, or even less. Unless you are planning on powering the speaker for less than a tenth of a second, this provides no information to the end user.
    A speaker could be rated at 15,000 peak watts (because it took 15k watts before catching fire after 0.1 milliseconds, but only handle 25 watts for 10 seconds before blowing up!
    Continuous or RMS (Root Mean Square) power ratings are also often fudged by manufacturers, but are at least a bit more indicative of actual performance.
    It's telling that Gemini now rates the exact same WRX 900TOGO as 2400W peak, and 250W(LF)+50W(HF) RMS, just showing how inconsistent and essentially useless these numbers are, even from the manufacturer!

    • @ChrisGodbersax
      @ChrisGodbersax  7 місяців тому

      💯Exactly, that's why I brought it up at around 8:10 Also because each online description of these say something completely different. In my experience the RMS is about half of whatever they list the peak as, but not in this case as online it was listed at anywhere from 2500 - 3000 wts as peak which I knew was bogus at first sigh. All the speaker companies do this, but this was one of the worst exaggerations I had seen. Not even sure where that number comes from as it's clearly not anywhere on the box. However, the 800 wt peak that's actually listed on the box is much more realistic to expect a 400 wt continuous output when hearing it in person. 👍

    • @ManifoldSky
      @ManifoldSky 7 місяців тому

      @@ChrisGodbersax400W continuously would most likely destroy this PA, as it is only rated at 250W continuous.

    • @ChrisGodbersax
      @ChrisGodbersax  7 місяців тому

      Yea I've seen stats all over the place, stating even as low as 100wrms on the gemini wrx900. I feel like each seller just makes up numbers. If 250w rms is the correct number it's still no wonder it's louder than the JBL compact that's rated at 120 watts continuous. Regardless, the point of this video is to show a bargain battery speaker that gets loud without breaking the bank, that's why I bought it. 🤷‍♂ Thanks for watching@@ManifoldSky
