Hi, one little trick I use when doing zippers is to stop part way, such as when you are moving the zipper slider out of the way, and lift the top layer to double check that the zipper is still sitting sandwiched between the two fabrics. There are double sided zipper tapes out there but many of them tend to gum up the needle so it is trial and error with those to find the best one. Also there are glue sticks that are specifically made for fabric as well, which are ok for temporarily helping to hold things in place. Most of the time I am too lazy to put the zipper foot on the machine so another little trick is to leave the regular multipurpose foot on, and use the dial for the needle positions. For zippers set it to left position. I feel for where the zipper teeth are located and put the foot down next to it so it sort of glides along beside it. When you get to the zipper slider, put the needle down so it stays put then lift the foot, move the slider out of the way. Put the foot back down and you are back in business. For top stitching, I prefer the right setting. I hope that helps some. You are doing great!
Good morning Judy MacLean! Thank you for this helpful advice! Putting the needle to the left position is very practical. Great tips! Thank you so much for your help!! I am enjoying learning to sew! Thanks!
