yep complete RAPE Gladiator 1 was meant to be a stand alone film Maximums joins his wife in death now Gladiator 2 wants this asinine narrative with Lucius being the Bastard son of Maximums so prior to his wife Tragically being murdered he SEXY TIMES!! with Caesars sister in this Caesar salad of a Movie too many copy past reboots like Rambo Terminator even The matrix what was that about Escape the parody Trixks !!!!????
The main reason Gladiator II bothers me is because it kinda ruins the magic of the first one by forcing Lucius to be Maximus' bastard son. This wasn't necessary but more importantly it paints of different picture of Maximus that is not consistent with the man we all grew to respect. Here are a couple reasons why Lucius being the bastard son of Maximus does not work. When Maximus prays to his ancestors, he is always holding two figurines who clearly represent his wife and only son. He says "blessed father watch over my wife and son (singular) with a ready sword..." If Lucius was also his son, he would have said "my wife and sons" (plural) and he would be holding a 3rd figurine to represent Lucius. In order for the honorable Maximus to have gotten Lucilla pregnant with Lucius, he would've had to have slept with Lucilla while she was married to Lucius Verus and potentially while he (Maximus) was also married. At the very least, this means that the honorable Maximus disrespected the co-ruling emperor of Rome. This goes against the values and principles that Maximus stands for. In every conversation he and Lucilla have regarding their sons, they are always spoken of as belonging to them separately. When Maximus refers to Lucius, it's always "your son" and when Lucilla speaks of Lucius it's always "my son". This is not the language of parents who share a child. In a conversation with Lucilla in the first movie, Maximus says "I heard of your husband's death, I mourned him". This means Maximus respected her husband. How the hell does that line even work if he was shagging her behind his back? Next, in his conversation with his friend Juba about seeing their families in the afterlife, Maximus says this "You see, my wife and my son are already waiting for me." Does this sound like a man who has another son? Nope, Maximus has one goal. Avenge the death of his family and see them again in the afterlife. He does not mention Lucius, or pray for him, or try to stay alive to see him. The only reason Lucius is remotely important to him is because he cares for Lucilla. By killing Commodus, Maximus avenges the death of his family, saves Rome from the corrupt emperor, and unburdens Lucilla from fear of her son being killed. So, Ridley Scott's devotion to historical inaccuracy extends to his own stories, haha.
I am SO SICK of this member-berry bullshit!!! I'm speaking of the ridiculous dialogue like "in this life or the next" and so forth, talk about lazy writing.
I resolved not to see this after the disaster that was 'Napoleon'. Seems I was right. It is a fantasy movie with people wearing vaguely Roman gear and with similar names to real Romans. 'Caracalla' was a nickname by the way, which no one outside his family and close group of friends would have used. Without a single exception, all his coins and inscriptions name him 'Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus'. He was also a tough, bear of a man who would never have worn makeup. But hey - this is after all a Ridley Scott film.
You can let them off with the sharks and the rhino riding as it's a film for entertainment not a historical documentary. It needed something to make it a bit less dull to watch. They could have used crocodiles rather than sharks and have the rhino directed into combat by a team of with tridents and nets, a bit like that one in 300. Everyone speaking English is fine you can assume it's just translated from ancient Greek, it wasn't Latin as Latin was spoken at one point then translated for the audience. The writing being in English was a bit strange, they probably should have subtitled it in English.
Why Gladiator is Better Than Gladiator 2: While Gladiator 2 is a fun movie, it doesn't quite live up to the original. Here's why: * Maximus vs. Lucius: Russell Crowe's iconic performance as Maximus is hard to beat. Paul Mescal's Lucius, though decent, lacks the same gravitas, commanding presence and magnetic charisma. * Grounded vs. Over-the-Top: The original Gladiator focused on a strong, personal story. Gladiator 2 leans more on big, flashy action scenes, sometimes at the expense of the story. * Iconic Moments: Gladiator is filled with unforgettable scenes and lines. Gladiator 2 struggles to match that level of impact. * Hans Zimmer's Score: The original's score is legendary. Gladiator 2's score, while good, doesn't quite reach the same heights. * Emotional Depth: Gladiator is more emotionally powerful, with a stronger focus on character arcs and relationships. In short, while Gladiator 2 is entertaining, the original remains a cinematic masterpiece.
Macrinus also not black African he was Berber which is modern day Algerian but black washing is ok and normal in Hollywood especially if you black wash a middle eastern role but white wash any role and people are up in arms
I would understand if this was directed by somebody else. Like James Mangold doing Indiana Jones. But I mystified that Ridley Scott made this movie and that he's made nothing but crap for a while. I don't want to sound cliche but aliens and the original gladiator and even Hannibal some of my favorite movies. I liked Hannibal a lot more than silence of the lambs. I held him in such high regard and now all of a sudden I just see a director who ruins all his own properties. Quite frankly I'm getting sick and tired of Hollywood taking crazy liberties with things that are supposed to be true. I understand it's always been that way but I don't even like biopics or historical dramas anymore because I know they're all full of BS

Crazy. I thought this movie was amazing. Some of the best action I have ever seen (especially the boat battle in the coliseum), amazing performances by denzel washington and the twin emperors, and the revenge story between pedro pascal and paul mescal was intriguing.
Yes. But they weren’t twins. In that list, what I meant by “they weren’t co emperors” is that they were in constant opposition with one another. Instead of how they are presented in the movie. That’s a mistake on my part for not being more clear about that. Thanks for watching.
Another go woke go broke crap movie and to think i sat rivited to my seat during the first gladiator movie as for this pile of doo doo it will go the same way as napoleon and dissapear down the plug hole as for scott i will never watch another of his directed movies, maybe he will get the message and stop making them.
And yet the same people who criticise this film think super hero films, which should be for kids, are amazing - This unnecessary sequel is better than most films that I have seen in recent years - Having said that, saying that Maxumus is the father is such a ridiculous and disrespectful plot change....

Oh... Where to begin.. First the plot, it goes all over the place, convoluted, messy and changes.. 👎 Also, no attempt at historical accuracy in many places, for example there are ENGLISH inscriptions all over the place.👎 Then there are thing like the bronze helmets of the Numidians, they are old and crusty aged looking, which is not how bronze was maintained, they were polished semi regularly and we know this from ancient accounts.👎 Oh and all of the exposed Marble reliefs, old and un painted, we know from extensive accounts that Rome wasn't white and drab looking, reliefs were painted, marble statues were painted, walls were painted, etc etc etc.. The movie fails in that respect too.👎 Bronze statues weren't painted but maintained and not left to get crusty.. A Plot that flip flops and does a 180 near the end.. FFS And finally, the writing for the movie is mediocre for something supposed to be a sequel to it's predecessor, which was a Block Buster.. Remember, his brother Tony Scott was alive during Gladiator I, and they both worked together as directors. Now Tony is gone, it shows.

If this wasn't a "sequel" to one of the greatest movie ever made "Gladiator" in last 2o years.... it would be a decent movie to watch

Hollywood best at milking a dead cow... lol
Great review 👍☑️
Thank you.
This movie 🍿 sux
Gladiator was written by David Franzoni and two others. I blame the writers more than I blame Scott.
But but - things blow up good. They blow up REAL good.
Bad ending but great film overall. I've seen Gladiator 2 twice in theaters now. My date loved it.
Macrinus also not black African he was Berber which is modern day Algerian but black washing is ok and normal in Hollywood especially if you black wash a middle eastern role but white wash any role and people are up in arms
Fun fact: Black Berbers exist. In North Africa.
Great reviews. 🙋
From historical fiction(Gladiator 1)to historical fantasy(Gladiator 2)🤦
Loved the original, this abomination should have never seen the light of day. This movie makes alien romulus look good.
Alien Romulus was a great film. What are you talking a about
Gladiator 2 is a great film fool!!! It's past 400 million now.
i saw it at cinema earlier i couldn t wait for it to end so me and my friends would leave togheter
I felt this movie could not best the first one.
Meanwhile, back to Ben Affleck in 'Reindeer Games'... Lol lmao LMFAO

Don't forget Black Rain. A true classic.
My thoughts exactly
This movie seems like it was made by a teenager trying to get into maling movies and another blackwashing as macrinus wasnt black
Great job on this one
haha this movie suuuuuuuuucks! I almost walked out!
I was entertained.
Video disliked. Gladiator 2 is the best film of the year. Action packed, with a fun performance from Denzel. Watch him get an Oscar.
Cool. Thanks for watching.
