Michael Frost is correct. I'm vet who was a AO (Aircraft Ordinance man) in the NAVY from 2000 to 2005 on board the aircraft carrier JFK CV67. That is an older model probably used until the early 90s i believe. They now generally use Mk 76s (Mk stands for Mark)or did in the early 2000s (which may be upgraded by now) to simulate dropping bombs( GBU series) so pilots can get and keep their qualifications which used to be every 6 months i believe and are used in simulations as not to waste actual bombs. If you look in the front and down through through the back there is a hole that runs through it. That is for a small charge to put in through the nose that is held in by a cotter pin then shoots out a small flare and puff of smoke out the back 3 to 4 feet when striking the ground. I can't remember the nomiclature of the charge. I think it was a MK 4 but not positive. If it were new it would be blue which means its inert or a dummy round for those that don't know what inert means. On a side note even though they are inert the charge that is loaded into it is actually responsible for almost twice as many accidents and accidental injuries then anything else used by the NAVY. AOs have a book of blood its called which tells all the mishaps of handling ordinance and it is riddled with dumb things people have done while miss handling these that have caused injuries and even deaths.

AN-MK43 is a practice bomb it was/is a similar practice Bomb that was used for training soldiers back in WWII the Commanders used it to train their soldiers for the war. The An-MK43 was usually used when targeting at boats or a group of soldiers on flat or high grounds.

It would not be unusual for junkies to break open a sharps box. Disposable syringes can be re-used, sometimes mostly empty medication ampules can be put into sharps containers with some residue of the drugs remaining. If someone, trying to inject a vein, got an artery instead, that could cause a projection of blood.Even an un-covered punctured vein can drop a significant amount of blood.

I did some research upon the bomb and their codes. The first code is just some random stack of letters and numbers but the second code has some meaning to it.
AN-MK43 is a practice bomb it was/is a similar practice Bomb that was used for training soldiers back in WWII the Commanders used it to train their soldiers for the war. There were two different prototypes like the AN-MK43. The AN-MK5 (the smallest one) which was made of zinc and alloy, and the AN-MK23 (the second largest one) which was fully made of iron. The An-MK43 was usually used when targeting at boats or a group of soldiers on flat or high grounds.
