While I enjoyed rewatching with you (and you are one of my favorite reactors), it's one thing the re-edit a movie if it gets taken down, but I would personally prefer you to spend time editing new movies, not re-edit a movie that is still available on your channel. Just my thought, but keep doing you.
People can search through your videos to see if you have already watched something (which I do all the time).
Can even search UA-cam for "awesome us movies forrest gump" to find any videos, and I was able to find both this way.
Um, it's not just unprotected s*x, you can contract AIDS/HIV through drugs, needles, blood transfusions, etc. Considering how Jenny was taking coc***e and he***n, that would not surprise me.

The best observation I ever heard someone say about this movie, is that Forrest is always running toward things and Jenny is always running away. Forrest grew up with a loving and supportive mother. Jenny did not grow up with any real parental support. So many people are disappointed with Jenny and how she treats Forrest, but she grew up in an abusive and unstable household. That kind of trauma usually causes people to act out and they are more likely to get involved with abusive relationships in adulthood. Part of it is that she thought that is what she deserved. When Forrest asks her to marry him, her answer isn't "No", it's "You don't want to marry me." She loves Forrest, but thinks he deserves someone better than her. That is why she always kept him at arms length. This is such a great film -- it gives you all the feels. Glad you enjoyed it!
This. I'm protective of Jenny. The abuse from her father broke her for a long time. Survivors of childhood SA are often hypersexualized afterward, as we saw. Forrest loved her unconditionally and got to marry the love of his life. So did she. Such a sad storyline. I know people get angry about Jenny and her choices. I don't think she ever chose her path, she just reacted. I love this movie, saw it opening weekend many years ago. My late father and I could always agree on a Tom Hanks movie. He watched this one countless times in his final years.
Very well said. The women I met when I was a young man who were abused as children didn't really value themselves. I damn near cried with the "..sometimes, there aren't enough rocks."
Great appraisal because so many reactions especially by younger male reactions hate on her. They don’t think that what she went through as a child was an excuse for her substance abuse, seeking out abusive partners. She’s damaged. Only when she’s pregnant does she get herself maybe therapy and peace. Sadly she caught HIV possibly from dirty needles. Really think the performance is one of the best things in this film.
It’s good to see a better understanding of Jenny. She’s such a tragic character and beautifully portrayed by Robin Wright.

Everyone always asks why Jenny didn't tell him about little Forest. He was running for 3 years, she couldn't tell him.
Yes, so many people forget the time period this was set it, we were not all as connected back then as we are now. No cell phones, he was literally traveling the country and she was trying to manage as a single mom and hold down whatever job she could get waiting tables and such. She also may not have even had a car if she had the time to go hunt him down.

So many memorable scenes. The "Is he...smart...??" scene always hits hard. And Gary Sinise was amazing. And it did impact his life a lot. Does countless veteran and charity work since. Just a wonderful human being.
Gary Sinise created the "Lt Dan Band", and dedicates the profits to helping returning injured veterans.

I always felt that the s/a Jenny endured as a child made her feel tainted. The only pure love she felt was from Forrest, and she didn’t want to taint him or his purity. Thats why she kept running away from him. She didn’t want to break him like she’s been broken.
Not just that, but she’s only ever known abuse. When you are told your entire life that you are worthless, that you deserve it, that becomes reality. She truly believed she was bad. That she had deserved all the awful things that happened to her. She didn’t want to hurt Forest. She didn’t want him to be with a “bad” person.
Most telling line for her character, “You don’t wanna marry me.”
She found that love with little Forrest. It allowed her to love herself and accept that she could be loved.
Yea it amazes me how many people don't understand that. It seems like most people's emotional iq is really low.

Forrest's quotes aren't exactly profound or poetic, but Hanks delivers them so perfectly as the character that they become unforgettable.
Not just a lesson in U.S. history, but rather a lesson in the human experience from a very uncorrupted point of view.
Tom DID win the Academy Award for this role
I believe the guy in the American shirt doing the speech at the monument was Abbie Hoffman, he was one of the Chicago seven. If I'm remembering correctly here.
Yep, he won a court case that ruled that his shirt was protected speech under the 1st Amendment.
Seen this movie 137 times & everytime he asks Jenny if he's smart or like himself makes me tear up everytime.

You missed a couple of things here. First, Bubba's mama didn't have to serve shrimp to other people any more. The second was Jenny had to leave Forrest; she was drug addicted. She needed rehab. And finally, Jenny could not tell Forrest about their son as he was running and out of touch.
Forrest Gump won six Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Director, Best Visual Effects, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. Hanks became the first actor since Spencer Tracy to win two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor; he won the previous year for Philadelphia.

I know that the movie is about Forrest Gump, but a 2nd plot is the redemption of Lt. Dan Taylor and his journey to recovery and life as a veteran. Gary Sinese did that role with such respect.
I'm sure this isn't news to you, but I will state it anyway for others.
The trips he made to the VA in his character research changed him for life. Acting became his vocation and veterans needs his avocation. He truly found his life's work.
One of the film's little nuances that a lot of people miss is all of the racist things that Lt Dan said while in Vietnam. Then later in his life he married an Asian woman.
I'm not sure "redemption" is really applicable. He has nothing to redeem himself for. It is more his acceptance and finally finding peace.

On UA-cam there is a wonderful story Tom Hanks tells on the Graham Norton Show about the the dialect of the little boy who plays Young Forrest and his contributions to Hank's character.

One of the best thing to come out of this movie, in my opinion, is actor Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) has become lifetime spokesman for many veterans & wounded veterans organizations (such as, Hope For The Warriors, the Joe Foss Institute & The Wounded Warrior Project, etc) and his unyielding support for them and veterans. He personally credits all the veterans & wounded veterans that he met and consulted with in his research and studying for the role of Lt. Dan & all the people he met afterwards, which moved & touch him deeply. Now that definitely something to salute him for. 🫡🪖🎖️🇺🇲
Gary has his full legs, his character's amputation is CGI.
Tom Hanks & Gary Sinise were Jim Lovell & Ken Mattingly in Apollo 13. Tom Hanks was also in Saving Private Ryan. Abbie Hoffman was the anti-war protester in the American flag shirt. John Lennon was saying the words to his song "Imagine". Lennon was shot by someone with mental health problems. Ping Pong was a reference Ping Pong diplomacy and opening relations with China by the Nixon administration. Running/jogging became a thing in the 70's.
Why isn't he getting more traction? He has watched so many popular movies and reactions are very wholesome and entertaining.

This movie is a masterpiece. Tom Hanks delivers an amazing performance. You completely forget that it's Tom Hanks and start believing he's actually Forrest Gump. This movie has a bit of everything and I love how they add in the historical parts of it as well. Such a great, great movie although it's impossible not to get emotional at times. That part at the end when he asks about whether or not Forrest Jr. is smart...such great writing.
I always thought his whole question was gonna be, "is he smart....or is he like me?" I cry every time.
Hey James, in answer to your question about Gary Sinise's character being an amputee, and how they did that..
They had Gary wearing green knee-high stockings which were digitally edited in post production to simulate his being an amputee
The best CGI is the kind you don't notice. This movie is amazing for its time.

Fun fact, the kid they chose for Forrest actually talked like that and so Tom Hanks just decided to make his character talk like that. Worked out extremely well!

Michael Conner Humpreys joined the US Army and served an 18 month tour in Iraq. He completed his service, came home, did some additional acting and even helped veterans reacclimatize into “normal” society.
One of my all-time favorite movies. Great reaction! The scene toward the end, when Forrest meets his son and asks Jenny if he's smart or is he . . . rips me apart every time I watch it. Forrest is one of the most amazing characters I've ever seen.

Jenny Dies From Hepatitis C In The Forrest Gump Books. That said, what's clear is that Jenny dies of Hepatitis C in the second book, while she dies of AIDS in the movies, even though it was only implied. Notably, Hepatitis C was discovered in 1989, which is why the doctors could do little for Jenny in the '80s.
I know most people seem to immediately assume Jenny died of Aids (myself included), but I don't really think it was even implied, just that everybody makes that assumption.
There are people who are adamant that it was Hep C because of the book. I don't believe you can make that proof, because the book was insanely different than the movie.
@@michaeljacyna1973 I think this is one of those instances where the director uses a poetic license and makes the change. The book implies one thing, but for the movie's sake it 100% feels like it's hinting at AIDs. Normally I'm a stickler for sticking to the source material whenever possible, but AIDs definitely feels like the virus they're referring to in the movie especially considering the life style she lived. But at the end of the day they still leave it a bit open so if someone wants to believe it's Hep C or AIDs they're free to do so and I actually like that they leave it open to interpretation.
One of the great things about Art is that different people can have different perspectives to things left to interpretation, and no one is wrong! 🙂
@@Do0msdayI mean, in the book Forest just gives his money to Jenny and she raises her son with another man. And Forest went to space. Played chess with cannibals. It really doesn’t matter what the book strongly implied Jenny had. She, Lt. Dan, Forrest’s mom, all had little to no resemblance to any of the movie characters.

Jenny was indeed molested by her father and it's often hard for people treated in such a way to see any value in their life and as a consequence difficult to feel worthy of affection from a decent person like Forrest.
When I first saw this I was angry at Jenny too, for how much she must have hurt Forrest, but the more I watched it, the more I understood her perspective.

Great movie. I've watched it many many times, but not for the past 10 years. It's really more about history than Forrest Gump to me.
This was such an excellent movie, so much fun to see how they make the character of Gump responsible for so much in history.

Tom Hanks did get a Best Actor Oscar.
Films are art. And art doesn't work without emotions. Anyone who brings films without emotions is missing out on a lot. There is a reason why we (e.g. me from Hamburg in Germany) like to watch you. This is actually one case where i'd say the movie is BETTER than the book.
Fight Club and Clockwork Orange are the only other books where I think the movie was better. He'd have to heavily censor the latter though.
Abbie Hoffman was the guy who wore the American Flag shirt in protest of the war.
I have seen this movie a dozen times easily and have watched probably two dozen first time viewers react to it, but I was so incredibly touched that you said something I have never seen anyone else say, which was to focus on the students during the desegregation scene and comment on their bravery. Honestly, my eyes immediately filled up because that was such a kind and sensitive thing to say. Thank you for a great reaction to a great movie and for that sweet moment of empathy for those brave, frightened students. ❤

James, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy and appreciate your reactions to so many awesome American movies - and not just the ones starring Tom Hanks.
Hollywood’s Golden Era of both filmmaking and the glamour of Movie Stars has long since passed, but Jimmy Stewart, IMHO, embodies and epitomises who and what a Role Model should be, both on and off screen.
Likewise, if there’s any actor from today’s era (the last 60-65 years LOL) with the talent, looks and appeal, intelligence, perseverance, and charisma of Jimmy Stewart, that actor is Tom Hanks.

People give Jenny such a hard time. She loved Forrest as a friend, not as a romantic love. Just because he loved her that way, doesn’t mean she can force herself to reciprocate, especially when she knew she was no good for him. We’ve all known someone wonderful who didn’t get the kind of love they wanted from someone else, who thought of them as a friend. Also, Jenny didn’t know what love was without violence. In her mind, violence and love was intertwined, so his sweet and gentle love didn’t seem like a passionate true love.
Even I understood her as a kid. I didn't go through it but I got it.
I was was given that same Army pamphlet in high school in 1973!
3 movies from this year all deserved the Oscar but forest just took the awards circuit, the other 2 are pulp fiction and the shawshank redemption
94 was a really good year in film. So many people wanna dump on Forrest Gump for beating Shawshank and Pulp Fiction at the Oscar's, but I think any one of the three could have won and it would have been good because all three (albeit very different from each other) are all amazing

There's a nice interview with Tom Hanks where he says the director was upset because of the way the young Forest spoke - so Tom said he decided he'd talk like that kid to fix the problem and he spent months just chatting with young Forest to get the dialect right. Such a great movie. And please don't be mad at Jenny - she always loved him and did her best to keep Forest out of her messed up life. And yes, Tom won an Oscar for this movie - a year after he won for Philadelphia.
Soundtrack is widely regarded to be one of the best of all time. Movie is brilliant and I think everybody gets weepy for, "You died on a Tuesday," "Sometimes there aren't enough rocks," "He died next to that river in Vietnam" and, of course, "Is he smart or is he like...?"

A cool piece of movie trivia … Kirk Russell played the role of Elvis in a movie about Elvis’s life, made just after Elvis died … the voice of Elvis when Forest’s mom invites him down to eat was voiced by Kirk Russell.

I'm still in the intro so maybe you remembered by now, but Mr. Hanks was in a delightful movie called turner and hooch. Plus I think you watched castaway... He's just so good you forget it's all him!
Turner and Hooch was filmed in Monterey just 40 miles away from my home town of Santa Cruz, California. They filmed the movie the Lost Boys in S.C.

It’s a good idea to re-upload videos occasionally, especially big movies or shows that could get a lot of views. People are nitpicking about this in the comments and it’s just silly. They should be supportive of you trying to grow your audience.

Jenny thought she was poison and she didn't want to destroy Forest that's why she stayed away from him she didn't think she was good enough or deserved him
That's kind of my thought...Jenny was so mentally broken from the trauma of her childhood that knowing GENUINE love scared her for the longest time.
Ive watched that movie so many times and you catch new things each time. For example when he was with John Lennon and gave him the idea for Imagine. I had probably watched 20 times before I caught on to that.

The behind the scenes and bonus content for this movie is a great watch. Among other things they show how they did the legs thing by the water.
27:16 - The actor wore blue or green socks that went up to his knees. Which then enabled the special effects crew to use technology to digitally remove the lower part of his legs in post production of the movie.

So many people have no trouble to understand Ltd. Dans trauma and troubles, his anger and despair and a lot of the same people do not understand Jenny. Thats hard to understand for me. Whats wrong with her? She grew up without a loving mother and with an abusive father. She was a little abused girl who did not understand what happened and never learned to love herself then. It is another kind of heavy trauma! She grew up eventually and understood that her only real friend was Forrest. And people accuse her of taking advantage of Forrest and not really loving him. I think they needed each as adults as much as they needed and helped each other as kids. But it was a long way for Jenny. She had to accept herself, before she could accept love.

Well, you went and mentioned John Deere so now I have to give an ancestral shout-out.
My great-great-grandfather was trained as a shoemaker in Scotland. In 1835, he came to America (Canada first, then the US) to pursue his dream of farming the land. Eventually, he found his way to Iowa and was one of the original settlers of Scott County. He rose to prominence in the community, and on April 25, 1871, was host to the 14th Annual Meeting of the Long Grove Plowmen.
The guest of honor? Mr. John Deere.
Which makes John Deere a great-great-grand-acquaintance of mine.

3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.

8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony..
9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.

11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.

My daughter is active in a few local school and leadership programs. We joke about her going to the state capitol, AGAIN, and getting to meet the governor, AGAIN. 😂

Correct she died of aids . Aids is strange . You said why he wasn't infected. I have the same question my Sister had it , also she died with meningitis with complicated it even more , she had her baby my nephew . He had no trace of the Aids. She was 31yrs. When she passed. I love and adored her she was my best friend .Watching the scene were he placed Jenny under their tree . Always ,Always makes me shed a tear for my Sister. I only wished the meds. We have today for this would have been around back then. Thank you for your reactions . Its wonderful what you do . And don't feel bad that you were a country boy and a reader. Many could only dream of the childhood you had. It keeps you grounded , honest . You can't get it any better than that . Bless you and yours.

It's only speculated and implied by many that Jenny died of AIDS. It wasn't until Winston Groom released Gump And Co (the sequel book) AFTER the film came out that we learn Jenny died of Hep C

I apologize in advance if this isn’t proper protocol: I would suggest you check out the film Secondhand Lions. It stars Haley Joel Osment (little Forrest) and also has two legends: Michael Caine & Robert Duvall. Great story that’s almost as impactful as Forrest Gump. Thank you.
