Our family shih tzu died after 22 years when we had to put him down, but when he was younger, he hated everyone but our dad and barked like crazy. He wanted our dad to be happy and was pissed when my dad had to leave. He eventually warmed up to us but that made him territorial and protective of us but he was so cute😭😭💕

My parent’s Shih Tzu is this hilariously grumpy old man. We honestly have no idea how he’s still alive because he’s pushing 20. Even from puppyhood though, he had more attitude that any one dog should and is super opinionated and particular. He can be a beast, but also the sweetest little thing sometimes.

My Shih Tzu was hanging out around our campfire in the northern USA when a pack of timber wolves started howling nearby. Little Muffin ran off into the woods to join her wolven brethren. We heard whining and barking a minute later, and found her stopped on the trail by a fallen log which she couldn't jump over because of her short legs. She wanted us to help her get over the log. So she could continue on her quest to go join the wolves.
Here's how much they vibe, whenever I would take out my shih tzu into the park to play with other dogs, he would just say hi to all of them and then sit in the middle of the group of dogs playing and stare off into the distance enjoying himself while there was absolute chaos around him. The definition of vibing regardless of his surroundings
I'm a proud Shih Tzu owner and I can confirm that the little guy vibes as hard as caninely possible. He's got the crust of an old pan and the eyelashes of a drag queen and he's one of my favorite things on the planet.
Our Shih-Tzu rescued himself by climbing in our car uninvited over 10 yrs ago. He truly is our keeper, when the family unit is scattered in the house, he goes room by room making sure everyone is ok, and when he sits down he does it facing whichever way our backs are turned towards or just sits facing/blocking the door. He really has our backs and we love him crazy.
My little guy did the same thing. Only it was always in the middle of the night. You could hear his taps as he walked room to room to check on you. If your door was closed you'd hear scratches until you opened. He'd look you up and down then head on to the next room.
I found my shih tzu the same way! I saw him running around a busy intersection and he immediately ran up to me and hopped in the car. Looked for the owner but they never showed. He's hanging out on my shoulder right now.

Finallyyyy! I've been waiting for this one! :D For those who want to hear my Tragic Backstory (tm): I have never owned a dog before until very recently. I have allergies, and so does most of my family. Finally, my parents decided we were going to do the work needed for us to have a dog. This dog would need to be non-shedding and as small as possible, because less fur and less surface area = less dander being spread around. They went to the shelter, and met ✨Lucy.✨ She's tiny even for a shih tzu, super polite, and a total weirdo now that she's gotten comfortable in our home. We have a giant, heavy-duty air purifier in the room, vacuum regularly, and I have to wash my hands every time I pet her. But it's all worth it, because she is the best girl ever, and should be the poster child for all small dogs. I love her so much, and now want to spread the good word of shih tzus to any who will listen. Thank you, JauncyDev, for making my day
My Shiba isn't a barker either. But in my case, I didn't try to change it. Now, if she barks or growls, I know it's one of two things: she doesn't like you AT ALL, or shit is about to go down. I've seen both happen, and she's saved me a lot of grief because of her non-barking habit. I wouldn't change it for anything.
My mom raised them, it's so much fun. Our old male, Ewok was awesome and grumpy, he would get mad and growl insanely if you flipped him off or cursed at him lmao.

My little guy did the same thing. Only it was always in the middle of the night. You could hear his taps as he walked room to room to check on you. If your door was closed you'd hear scratches until you opened. He'd look you up and down then head on to the next room.

I found my shih tzu the same way! I saw him running around a busy intersection and he immediately ran up to me and hopped in the car. Looked for the owner but they never showed. He's hanging out on my shoulder right now.

I had a shih tzu whom we rescued, his original owners abandoned him and someone took him in wanted to put him down. My dad was his saviour and saved him and became a loving member of our family for 8 years. He sadly passed 2 years ago, but he’ll forever be in our hearts.

For those who want to hear my Tragic Backstory (tm):
I have never owned a dog before until very recently. I have allergies, and so does most of my family. Finally, my parents decided we were going to do the work needed for us to have a dog. This dog would need to be non-shedding and as small as possible, because less fur and less surface area = less dander being spread around. They went to the shelter, and met ✨Lucy.✨ She's tiny even for a shih tzu, super polite, and a total weirdo now that she's gotten comfortable in our home. We have a giant, heavy-duty air purifier in the room, vacuum regularly, and I have to wash my hands every time I pet her. But it's all worth it, because she is the best girl ever, and should be the poster child for all small dogs. I love her so much, and now want to spread the good word of shih tzus to any who will listen. Thank you, JauncyDev, for making my day

My Shiba isn't a barker either. But in my case, I didn't try to change it. Now, if she barks or growls, I know it's one of two things: she doesn't like you AT ALL, or shit is about to go down. I've seen both happen, and she's saved me a lot of grief because of her non-barking habit. I wouldn't change it for anything.

I had a Shih Tzu named Spuds almost 30 years ago. He was my best buddy. Dumb as a box of rocks, but a great friend. Somebody stole him right out of my yard one day. He didn't run away. Spuds would never do that. He had millions of opportunities and never took advantage. There were stories on the news about dog-nappings that week. I think he was a victim. I still miss him to this day.

My Tia’s Shih Tzu is the most aggressive ball of rage that has ever existed while also being the sweetest little turd ever when she knows you. Sometimes she is still aggressive when she knows you though, she once bit my thumb so hard it cracked the nail because my phone notification noise startled her
