- 2013 BMW heater control valve replacement, and testing.
Tools needed: Flat screw driver, T30 torx, hose clamp, bucket to catch coolant, 1 QT of coolant.
I would advise to change the valve over replacing the seals. After further inspection of the old valve, i realised it was no good. So changing the seals would not of worked for me. - Авто та транспорт
Thank you for the video! My 2012 X5 constantly got hot air coming out of footwell vents on both sides, whether AC is on or not. Watched your video, took my time (abt 1 hour) and saved more than $500. Didn't have hose clamps so I lost about 1 quart of coolant, but did have some extra at home to replace. Problem fixed!
Thanks for sharing the ending, when you tore it down. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
Great video and helped me a bunch. Thank you
MAN U ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U saved Me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the video my girl car had the same problem took me about 30 mins to swap out the part when the shop was estimating a 2 hour job with cost well over 500.
Yeah it’s a lot of thieves out here
Don’t know if you did but I used hose pinch clamps. I think that’s what it’s called can’t remember. One for each hose and I only lost like a 2 shot glass worth of antifreeze.
Thank you for your great information here. Would you please advise: I get 16 on one and 32 on the other solenoid. Does that mean the valve is finished? Thanks again
i had the opposite problem, when i do not turn on my AC, my driver side blows warm air while the rest of the vents in passenger side blow regular air, even when I set the temp to lowest. When I siwtch on my AC, the driver side AC seems a bit warmer than the rest of the passenger vents. I have the Code A6D2 - Driver Side Water Valve, does that mean my valve needs replacement?
Approximately how long of labor is this job? I need it done but don't think I can do this myself.
Thank you!
Is there one on each side? Pretty sure this is my problem
Could this cause it to overheat ?
Good info.
What kind of scanner are you using?
Autel maxisys mini905. it's a decent tool, a bit expensive, but worth every penny to me. It paid for itself already by me not going to the dealer for this car, and my honda accord. I would not see this code with my regular innova 3160B OBD2 scanner.
what do you mean you unplugged it ? was there stuff inside of it ?
How much coolant did you lose when you removed the hoses? Did all 3 hose leak out coolant when you removed the hose?
About a quarter, I clamped all the hoses.
Do this if heat is lukewarm or only blows on one side
Hey great video dude. I learned a lot. I have a question.
I have heat coming in when my AC is activated on both sides foot well and definitely on passenger side dash vents. Not so much driver side dash vents. So my question is, does that mean I have to replace both heater control valves? Passenger and driver?
It’s one unit, left and right.
Would this also keep heat to be hot blowing inside the x5 after a water pump and thermostat replaced. Also after bleeding the system with the switch on and heater on high temp and blower on low press the pedal and still no water comes through.
I was having the same issue. Did you find out what the issue was with yours?
What was the issue with yours?
I need help with my 2011 bmw x3 28i xdrive heater blowing cold air ..
Would this part prevent the inside of the car from getting warm?
Possibly, you can turn turn your thermostat to 80, and feel the hose going into the fire wall to see if they’re hot. If it’s cold, then you have and issue with the solenoid or power/ground circuit.
My 528i has same issue. How long did it take to replace it?
About 1 hour.
Hi
What are the symptoms of your car?
Is the hcv similar to replace on a 2008 e60?
I'm not sure. You can look up parts on realm.com bmw parts catalog
MY heater valve is ready 10 and 12 homes is that go or do i need to replace it
I'm not sure. Go with the ohms values in the video. You can feel the hose going to the fire wall when the engine is hot, and heat running to see if they get hot. If you have a scanner it will show a code for it.
Will this cause the AC on the passenger side to blow hot air.
needy392 i have this same issue did you fix it?
Hello
What is the symptom/ reason of replacement? Mine is blowing warm air from footwell. Is this the cause too?
I had no symptom, the code showed up in the scanner. There was very little coolant leak from the valves, ie white coolant stain around the valve/solenoid area.
@@radieseltech6417 Ive pulled mine as well coolant leaking around the heater control valve. I've noticed it was leaking when I pop the hood looking because I smelled coolant....
I need service are you in New York ?
I have the opposite issue with my e70 right now. I’m only getting cold air even when I turn it to the highest temperature, only cold air comes out.
This could be your problem, but get it scanned for codes first.
@@radieseltech6417 I’m pretty sure that’s what it is. The original part is $178 on FCP Euro. How long will you think it would take for Labor? Hour or so?
I have a different problem, mine is catching on fire, sparking up and smoking, would changing the part fix it?
I'm can't say, sounds like it's shorting out, but it would be a good idea to change it, or disconnect it.
Yeah I actually did change it and it fixed the problem, thank you tho!
I`m glad that I`m not alone...had same issue and it was pretty scary must say.
@@kingdennis3383 hey there bud, I'm experiencing this same problem. Smoke in the cabin. Thought I had it fix by replacing the blower motor and resistor but two months later here I am. I read your comments and if you resolved your problem by replacing the heater control valve, correct? I guess I'm going to buy the part and bleed it as well?
will a lot of coolant leak out??
Yes, drain the coolant, or block the hoses.
I didn't block the hoses and lost about 1 quart total. It'd be much less if I used the hose clamps.
What scan tool are you using?
Autel maxisys 905. The 905 was discontinued, now they have the maxisys 906. I think it's about $1200.
Driver side blows out warm and passenger side is cold! Replacing the heater control valve will it fix the issue ?
Did you ever figure it out? Same thing is happening on my x5.
I had to change my ac compressor now my ac works fine
Did you figure out the problem same problem I have now
@@meritonzebica1541replaced the heater core valve
@@rockshard2425 you replace just heater core valve and after that working fine right?
Hi!
thanks for the video, what prompt you from replacing the valve, my 2009/x5/e70, it has 140k miles, heater is not warm enough unless i set to 84 deg on both side. Could this be the issue? How much is the valve cost?
I had no symptom. I scan the car for fault codes once a month. The code was there, so i tracked it down. This may be your issue, you'll have to get a scanner that can connect all module on the car to check. Did you check your cabin air filter for restriction?
@@drone1028 Cabin air filter is good, it does have good airflow. I replaced blower not long ago due to blower making cricket sound. The air temperature is the main issue. The only way I can get the air to be warm enough is..... set both side to maximum 84 degree. This seems to be started when i replace radiator/coolant flushed, so I thought it may be related to control valve
@@haihonguyen Hi, I have same problem. Did u find what was the problem on your car?
Tnx
Hi. Which city are you in?
Brooklyn, NY
How to replace a heater control valve in a 2008 BMW X53.0
What make and model is your vehicle
2013 BMW x5 35i, with straight 6 cylinder n55 engine.
i'm having an issue with mine where when using my AC I get a some hot air bleed through the vents along with the cold air and hot air down on the foot vents. I'm thinking the valves could be stuck partially open when using my AC do to a faulty heater control valve.
slashrhoads that's possible. You can feel the 2 hose going to the fire in the engine compartment to see if it's hot. It shouldn't be hot. If you have access to a autel scan tool like the one in the video, it will give you soft codes that don't show up on the dash. That's how i knew this was a problem. I didn't have any issue with the heat, but it was winter here in nyc.
R A Diesel Tech have you seen the Bluedriver scan tool? Seems like a detailed scanner enough to provide that info
slashrhoads i have no experience with that brand. I used the autel 905 mini, which has bidirectional. You don't need the scan tool if you have access to the hose. It's 1 line into the solenoid, and 2 out. Just feel the 2 hose going to the fire wall into the car. Also, look for leaks around the solenoid. Mine had a slow leak. Look for the coolant stain streak under the solenoid.
R A Diesel Tech gotcha, I'll give it a try. Thanks
I felt the hose just like you said. going towards the fire wall. measured it with a thermometer and it was over 150 degrees. With the AC on the driver side vent gets 50 degree air towards the middle of the vent and 90 degree on the top of the vent so it seems like that valve is allowing heat to go through even when my AC is on so the cool and hot air are mixing. It seems like the solenoid is partially stuck open. Do you think the valve itself just needs to be replaced or is it possible to clean it or replace the seals?
Can heater control valve affect the engine performance
No. This is the hvac ac/heater system. Unless there is a coolant leak from the valve, which will cause low coolant.
