Flynn intentionally pleaded guilty because it allowed him to legally violate his NDAs that he signed as Director of DIA. As Q said, he knows where the bodies are buried per se. Even mainstream media reported that he was assisting with other investigations! Like Q said, you can't prosecute without prosecutors.

Yep, sounds like exactly the kind of person Donald Trump would not only recruit, but protect by granting a presidential pardon. A man who acted as a secret advocate for foreign powers, knowing full well the consequences of what he was doing, THAT GUY gets a full pardon. The GRU is *not* the successor to the KGB.
The FSB is the successor to the KGB, the GRU is the successor to... the GRU.
The GRU was the rival to the NKVD (precursor to the KGB). Stalin always liked to have two of everything, so he could play them off against each other. In 1991, when the KGB tried to overthrow Gorbachev, the GRU refused to back their longtime rivals in a coup. As a result, the new Russian Federation allowed the GRU to keep its name, whereas the KGB had to rebrand.
TLDR: The GRU is not the KGB's successor, it's another arm of Russian Intelligence.

    • @podemosurss8316
      @podemosurss8316 4 роки тому +42

The GRU was and is mostly directed at gathering intelligence (mainly military) on other countries, whereas the KGB (now FSB) is mostly directed at internal affairs, though. Also, the name of the GRU literally means "Main Intelligence Directorate" (and is a shortening of the full name which is "Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff")

The GRU is the rough equivalent of the Defense Intelligence Agency while the KGB/FSB is closer to the FBI, but not exactly. The GRU’s focus is on external military threats and the KGB/FSB on internal and political threats.

    • @shkotayd9749

      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GRU_(G.U.)
Its kind of complicated how it all worked out. But this is a good read.
"The military intelligence was known in the Soviet government for its fierce independence from the rival "internal intelligence organizations", such as the NKVD, later the KGB. The military intelligence headquarters were located at Prechistenka street [ru], west of the Kremlin, whereas the NKVD was in the very centre of Moscow, next to the building that housed People's Commissariat for Foreign Affairs at the bottom of Kuznetsky Most. Due to this fact, the Soviet military intelligence came to be known in Soviet diplomats' cant as distant neighbours (Russian: дальние соседи) as opposed to near neighbours, i.e. the NKVD/KGB intelligence officers.[8][9] According to public statements of Soviet military intelligence veterans, the GRU had always been operationally subordinate to the KGB.[8]
The GRU per se (under this name) was established by Joseph Stalin's order of 16 February 1942. From April 1943, the GRU handled human intelligence exclusively outside the USSR.[10][11] "
"Following the dissolution of the USSR in December 1991, the GRU continued as an important part of Russia's intelligence services, especially since it was never split up (unlike the KGB).[13] The KGB was dissolved after aiding a failed coup in 1991 against the then Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. It has since been divided into the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and the Federal Security Service (FSB). "
So it started off as a subset arm of the KGB but after the KGB fell and was reformed into the FSB, the GRU continued on its own branch.

@zhuull1 It is not hard to think of a scenario where a lie from people in authority can dissuade a normally honest citizen from telling the truth. For instance, let's say the government has a stance on buying donuts: you're a bad person if you buy donuts, Krispy Kreme is now an underground black market etc. They tell you people who eat donuts are criminals and murderers. But you are just a normal guy who likes your donuts. They may not be particularly good for you, but really who are you hurting by eating a donut? But now you're in court lying about how you ate a donut because your government is lying saying donuts are only eaten by criminals (although, if donuts were illegal, this would technically be true, but you get the point.) For an extra credit thought experiment, replace donuts with marijuana and imagine how many people have lied in court about this plant that harms no one and can be legally and recreationally used in many states, but because their government lies about the dangers of marijuana, not because there is actually anything to lie about.

So basically, if you are part of Grifters, Inc., at least when it is in control of 2/3 of our federal government as it is now, that Rule of Law thing spelled out in the Constitution, means absolutely nothing in terms of any consequences you might face if you want to commit these types of crimes (or maybe any crimes), other than the occasional mild inconvenience of trials, etc.
So, as Orwell warned us, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. And the only thing between our democratic republic and the end of our slide into fascism is enough of us turning out in November in droves and voting to stop this and the many other outrages of this period of Klepto/kakisto/crats Gone Wild.
With a packed court system, we'll still have our work cut out for us, but if we can oust 45 and his enablers, at least we'll have a prayer of getting our country back on track, or at least headed in the right direction.

Theres some important details in your synopsis that were sorely missed. First, prior to his sentencing hearing, Flynn changed counsel representation and it was found that his first counsel's legal advice was horrible. There are investigations into the possibility that this first counsel was taking bribes or purposely throwing the trial. Second, around this time was when the government declassified documents related to his original questioning. Rather than approach the situation for investigative purposes, the FBI agents questioning him had the strategy of deliberately getting him to lie and threatened a lengthy investigation of his family and children if he did not testify to his lies. Third, all other charges in this case are nonexistent. The entire investigation in which Flynn was originally questioned is over and found no criminal wrongdoing. Thus, many people and myself included, believe that these charges are simply an effort to get something from this otherwise botched investigation to stick, rather than thr conviction of a man based on guilt and malice.

Well legal eagle is biased and really understating and downplaying the reasons why Flynn wants to remove his guilty plea, why the Prosecution wants to drop the case, how bad the FBI performed during the whole case, how the Judge wants to corrupt justice by trying to go against the supreme court and take the powers of the executive branch and play Judge Jury and executioner by trying to get his own prosecutor via a amicus curea of a heavily biased retired judge. And his defamatory false accusations that gen. Flynn is a traitor.
Here's the parts that biased legaleagle forgot to mention
New evidence shows that the FBI went into the interview trying to entrap Flynn
“What is our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute [him] or get him fired?”
Which begs an obvious question: why would a law enforcement agency (FBI) ask if the goal of the investigation/questioning is to get someone fired? That appears as a political motive.
Also, one of the agents involved in the investigation what Peter Strzock, the day was who assured Lisa Page about "Plan B" should Trump be elected President (Highly political statement made against the incoming President). One would assume was given as an obvious bias, there would be a need to re-review said officer (in this case, an FBI agent) dealings regarding the Trump administration.
At the very least, one would think that explaining, or even addressing, the recent revelation of the note as of some legal merit, LegalEagle glosses it with "new documents were found, which usually doesn't paint a good image of the defendant's previous legal team..... BUT!"
It should be noted as BOTH Flynn's previous legal team (C&B), as well as the FBI (and maybe the DOJ) had the handwritten memo (which may or may not have been written the very same Bill Priestap that the DOJ interviewed recently), as well as Flynn's original 302's, which somehow when missing ("surprisingly", ha?)
The case didn't "turn into a partisan political activity", it began as one.

If you had a client that the police said they thought were innocent but the DA needs or wants the conviction for their own purposes, and the DA threatened to prosecute your defendant's child on a made up or trumped up crime, how would you approach the situation?

@@Bill_Garthright It's highly unlikely that every Republican up for election will be defeated.
Remember, some of these are blind banjo picker states like Alabama where Roy Moore the child molester is still politically viable.
But...if all but a couple were defeated, that would mean a super majority.
And that would give the Dem majority the option of expelling all the remaining Senators for violating their oaths to be unbiased jurors, in that they refused to hear relevant evidence.
They could argue all they want - or all they are allotted time for - but there is no legal recourse.
The Governors of those states would then need to appoint temporary Senators pending special elections.
Some states the Governors are obligated to appoint Senators of the same party of the expelled Senator - but I don't know that there is a requirement that it can't be someone who recently changed parties.

The bankruptcy case would be long, difficult, and devastating with absolutely no clear winners. The court could mandate a raise in taxes to pay off a portion of the debt while absolving the state of another portion. The court could assign the debt to the federal government as a means of saying "The government cannot declare bankruptcy except as a whole". The truth is we don't have any idea how such a case would play out, and the supreme court would likely way in at some point which is nearly unheard of in bankruptcy cases.

The problem is the circumstances behind his confession and the setup behind the meeting. The Obama era DOJ had already decided that Flynn's phone calls to the Russian ambassador were not enough to prosecute on, and the FBI had already cleared him of suspicion of being a foreign agent before the meeting according to internal documents, and for all intents and purposes the investigation was supposed to be closed but the FBI never formally closed it. Apparently this was a mistake as evidenced by an internal memo that said "our incompetence might have saved our asses" in reference to the FBI's desire to interview Flynn and their initial belief that they couldn't do so because the investigation was closed. When interviewing Flynn they didn't give him notice that it was for an investigation, and made it sound like a friendly chat. They never told him that he was at risk of prosecution based on what he said in the interview, and they didn't give him transcripts of the call to jog his memory despite Flynn knowing that the fbi already had all of his calls. Plus the doj was repeatedly telling the FBI not to interview Flynn without the DOJ present, but these phone calls and memos were deliberately ignored. It was a perjury trap. Then, as for his confession, they told him if he confessed they wouldn't prosecute his son, which isn't problematic in and of itself but in the court filings, they didn't disclose this very important information, making his whole confession fruit of the poisoned tree and inadmissible as evidence. I feel bad that you've made this long video only to get it really wrong.
