  • We moved away to ride motorcycles, then this happened. Join me on today's adventure as we embark on a spontaneous journey through various parts of Florida, seeking warmth and exploration. In this vlog, we start the day with a mission to find some coffee and end up discovering the charming city of Tavares, just above Lake Dora, with its sea planes and beach bars. Along the way, we stumble upon historic walking places and enjoy a surprise find at Nautilus Coffee.
As the day unfolds, I share some candid thoughts on adjusting to the Snowbird lifestyle, coping with the colder weather, and the challenges of creating content on the road. Jordan and I discuss our differing perspectives on the Snowbird experience, touching upon the need for space and projects. The video takes a turn as we face the realities of finding campgrounds during the peak season and the costs involved.
Amidst the challenges, we find solace in the beauty of our surroundings, the warmth of the sun, and the joy of being back on my Harley-Davidson Dyna. Join me for a ride to Lake Harris Hideaway, one of my favorite spots, where I reflect on the changing dynamics of UA-cam, the pressures of content creation, and the evolving nature of my channel.
Stick around to witness breathtaking views, a bit of wildlife spotting, and my thoughts on the current state of motorcycle camping. I share some exciting news about securing a place to stay for the next couple of months in Florida, easing some of the anxieties and allowing me to focus on creating more meaningful content for you.
Thank you for being a part of this journey on two wheels, and if you haven't already, consider subscribing to stay updated on all things motorcycle and lifestyle. Your support means the world to me, and I can't wait to bring you along on the next adventure. Until then, ride safe and stay tuned for more! 🏍️✨ #MotorcycleAdventure #SnowbirdLife #ExploreFlorida

I'm sharing my old person snowbird wisdom.
    1. If I can't wear shorts and sandals, I'm too far north.
    2. You don't have to shovel boredom.
    3. Texas is just as warm, and campsites can be found for 1/2 to a 1/3 of Florida prices.
    4. Daytona bike week isn't to far off, so there's something to look forward to seeing.

DFW isn't "just as warm..... maybe Houston.
I always say "You don't have to shovel humidity," as people try and say Florida summer is unbearable. We're moving this year (from MN).

    • @FWMCBigFoot
      @FWMCBigFoot 4 місяці тому

@mikeb8342 Spoiler alert, there's more to Texas than just Dallas/Fort Worth.
I'm in Corpus Christi, and it's warmer than northern Florida, and comparable to parts of central Florida.
Good luck with your move. Lucky you.

@FWMCBigFoot so you're comparing a city even further south than Houston. Of course that's warmer than Jacksonville.... so is Miami and Naples.
PS.... I spent a weekend in your neck of the woods (2006?).... nice place.

My wife and I did the FL snowbird thing for about 20 years. We did everything from tent camping to van life to living on sailboats. In recent years we've been wintering home in NH -and it's been fine. The constant search for a good economical place to stay can be exhausting and stressful. Doesn't mean we won't snowbird again, but for now I don't miss it.

In AZ we ride 12 months out of the year. When it gets too hot in the Valley of the Sun we head north to the high country. While we don't have the ocean of the gulf, we do have plenty of lakes with amazing places to eat. Here's a piece of trivia. Arizona has more boats per capita than any other state. From the Valley it's a nice ride to Puerto Penasco, Mexico, better known as Rocky Point. You would love bike week there in November. We have snowbirds who live in the Valley in the winter and northern AZ in the summer. And the RV parks are plentiful and have spaces available. Just some food for thought for the future.

Being from Michigan online the Lake Harrison Hideaway. Haven't been in a couple years. Found a few good bike lights on the Leesburg area a couple years ago as well. Made some good friends at the Warehouse there as well. There should be a great bike event coming up too that supports local vets, and the time I rode it they were providing a house for a vet that needed a place.

It's a learning process. Next year, you know what to do w/re booking and stuff. You're both sharp people, you learn fast. It looks like you're managing to overcome the issues this time, which is great.
You've also learned to pack some warm gear on any long trip. Even to FL. A liner, some gloves... that's not much room. Not sure if Appa has it, I'm pretty sure Daisy does, but heated grips on your Dyna might be worth considering. They aren't cheap, especially with install, but once you've had heated grips, you will always want them. It sure is nice to be able to comfortably operate the controls. They've been practically standard on BMWs for decades, which is how I discovered them.
Lookin foward to seeing more videos of Snowbird Jess.

I care Jess! You do you. I'll keep my eyes out for your videos when you're ready. I have sons around your age and I feel it's been a treat to watch you navigate your way through this thing we call life. Just a word if I could.... there is a difference between taking time to challenge yourself to look for a deeper clarity within and questioning yourself. These moments of looking for deeper clarity is a great time of growth, like rings in a tree and we all must do so to grow. Questioning yourself on the other hand is self defeating. Embrace the former, let the latter go. I feel honored to watch you grow your way through life. Thank you for sharing it all. I keep my wife up to date on how you're doing. Trust yourself Jess... I do!!!!

Camping costs are ridiculously priced these days. You really need to plan out 6 months in advance to book payed sites. Now you know for next year. If you want to save money, you'll need to figure out boondocking for a week or more at a time. With enough solar and batteries, it can work! Currently, I can make it 2 weeks comfortably in my toy hauler before water becomes a issue. Hope you can continue to enjoy the snowbird life.

We wanted to buy a small RV and go camping , but I don't have any space to park it at my home , then just the Expense to put it in storage , the cost of keeping it up for repairs , the cost of going to these camping sites . I say NO now . We rather go any where and rent a home VRBO , so much better , and cheaper , we travel now all the time and don't have to worry about anything .

Not that this fits your exact lifestyle - but food for thought: My retired brother in AZ works two 6-hour shifts a week in guest services at a local golf course. With tips, he gets about $1000 a month. That covers the monthly campsite rental, with cash left over. Plus discounted meals at the restaurant, and a chance to make new friends and local contacts.

Advanblack now makes the Low Rider ST fairing for Dyna’s. That would be a fun project for Jordan. In fact, that’s one of my AZ snowbird projects this winter, on a 2014 Dyna Switchback. I bet you could get one comp’d from Advanblack if you featured the build in videos, and of course we’d see you riding the Dyna forever into the future. Plan B, Jordan could wrench on all the Shadetree bikes with “issues” 😂😂

The famous ride is Sugar loaf Mountain , the 2nd Highest Elevation in Fla east of the Mississippi river , Those small towns gotten exspensive and alot of California people have moved there . Been in FL for 71 years and seened it grow , its overcrowded now and can't take the Humid and Hot weather 9 months out of the year .

I'm not surprised that you're having problems with finding an affordable full service RV campground in Florida in January and February. Between the snowbirds, the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the Daytona 500 (and all the related short track racing around Florida before and after), several music festivals, and Daytona Bike Week, I'm sure that the reservations fill up quickly.

I'm from Cuyahoga falls, ohio born and raised,I'm 41.I've been living in the Sarasota area for the last 12 years. After 12 years of riding down here its pretty boring overall. It's super hot, almost unbearable during the summer, all other months aren't to bad, and you can ride year round. Its just becoming entirely to crowded and its extremely dangerous to ride down here. And the cost of living forget it you get nothing for your money. With that said Tennessee, NC,SC is where I'm looking to move. Florida is just hot and flat, there are some decent country roads more north but thats it. I need some hills,valleys,rivers..ect. Good luck to ya'll and keep up the great content.....🤙🤙

If you haven’t already, head north on 441 and swing by Gator Harley. They are a great group of folks. About 3 miles north of there right after the 441/27 merge, try Ramshackle Cafe (left side past Griffin light). If you like wings, get the medium grilled ones. And the Mexican burger is also good, make sure to ask for the fries to be seasoned.
Camping- check with Bikers Sleep for Cheap in Leesburg and Windy Acres Bikefest Camping in Fruitland Park (Not sure if they are open year round). If you are sticking for Bike Week in Daytona, there is great camping around Ormond by the Sea. You are only 90 mins away, so staying with your current spot works too.
Hope this helps if you are looking for it.

As a Floridian, you have made one of the classic blunders. First, you’re still too far north, you need to head down to Naples, in order to find the warm. You have come to the state during the month and which it is most visited insuring that prices will be sky high.
Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona are equally as warm and much less expensive. When you take into consideration the fact that you’re looking to ride your motorcycles, access to the water is actually undesirable. All it does is increase the price. Also, you may have noticed that there aren’t a lot of hills in Florida. I spent 20 years in Fort Myers and the only curves I could enjoy were the on-ramps.

I have always made friends easily before coming to certain places because I am a radio operator also and try my best to get some prime locations. You are going to start having some warmer weather there in the middle of February when the winter storms start staying higher in Siberia. and if you are really lucky, the warm currents will start up that way. Hey there again! Good to see you down this way for the season. You are in my neck of the woods for sure. Mt. Dora/Lake Dora is named after my great great grandmother, Dora Drawdy. We do have excellent riding here and lots more roads for you to discover. Since you may be down here in the month of March I would recommend you attend the country's largest antique boat show and festival. It is put on by the Sunnyland chapter of the Antique and classic boat society.. some of the premier antique boats in the country will be on display and running all along the waterfront and docks in front of Puddle Jumpers where you ate lunch. The smell of fresh varnish and mahogany is intoxicating. The show is huge and any gear head from any walk of life will love it. It will be 3/21-3/24 this year.
Head over to Sleepy Hollow in Floral City for lunch on a weekend while here as well. On the water and lots of bikes and air boats there plus sometimes good Southern Rock bands.

Jess, I live in Texas and just for a day trip you have to plan for near freezing to 70 in the same day. Down to about 30 or so I'm good with my leathers (winter riding jacket and chaps) I use a hoody underneath and wear my winter gloves (nothing I own is heated), and my full faced LS2 modular. Below 30 I'd put on some thermal pants under my jeans. When it warms up in the afternoon I pull off the jacket and chaps and put on my vest to cut the wind, up to about 55 I continue to wear my gauntlets to keep the wind out of my sleeves. In my opinion that is all I need, you must have become spoiled with all your fancy modern gear....;P

Love seeing no snow on the ground.i thought moving south from western pa would be the life.being a trucker I have seen the whole country in all the seasons.but,at some strange point in my life I realized there is nothing better than a 40 degree day when it is 20 now, long as the roads are clean.my absolute favorite day of the year is when I am riding down the road and smell the 1st fresh cut lawn, you know something good is headed your way.b safe!

this was fun.I appreicate how candid you are with the ups and downs of your first snow bird experience. While I love riding motorcycles and I am in New England I have no desire to snow bird. I am enjoying watching your experience and attempt to pursue the winter you prefer. Peace and ride safe. By the way I am drinking my coffee and preparing to snow blow my driveway. Believe it or not I enjoy that . After 20 years of working around the clock as a snow plow driver I love being at home during a snow storm, even though I still can't ride my motorcycle. Peace.

How’s your four legged friend doing in the RV? Hope she’s adjusting ok especially when she’s alone there. I remember last year my friends who snowbird were annoyed it was colder in Ocala than it was here in Massachusetts. Hope the weather flips for you soon! Enjoy! ✌️

If you are now a year-round resident, you aren't a snowbird but a transplant. Snowbirds only winter here and go back to wherever in the spring. I'm a Buckeye transplant myself. ( Toledo ). Been here 13 years.

Jess, here is my suggestion for a day trip (to see wildlife in their habitat): The Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland. No fences, no concrete ponds, it borders a lake full of alligators, and the central path is crossed by the wildlife without restriction. If you don't mind seeing hundreds of birds at the same time you are scoping out the the ground and aquatic animals, you might enjoy it.

Welcome Snow birds LOL. I’m originally from the Youngstown/Warren Ohio area and my wife is from Canton. The wife and kids and I have been down here for going 24 years. It took us a very long time getting acclimated down here. I ride damn near everyday here in Pinellas County that is an experience in its self LOL. Enjoy your time, just a suggestion reach out to @Blockhead for things to do and maybe projects for your Hubby to work on?

i have been watching your video's for quite a while now(didn't realize i hadn't subbed), when you did the camping, bike week, shade tree surgeon, i live in Ocala, fl. i only have my Rebel 500, (i am 68 and skinny)so i have to ride the bike to work, stores, etc. this winter dare i say, sucks! we joke about the snow birds forgot to close the door on their way down here. but i have to wear shirt thermals, sweat shirt, heavy riding jacket, and i need warmer gloves. well, i am rambling, welcome to Florida, for the winter, i did sub, and just do what you can on the video drops, y'all are pretty cool folk. oh yeah, i don't drink anymore, so bars are strange places to me lately. until next time be safe.

Glad you 3 are enjoying the snowbird, though not all as great as of yet as you thought it would be. But as mentioned, you are new to this so boredom will strike sometimes. It happens. Sometimes you just want to stay close to the Hauler, embrace those days as well and enjoy the weather and each other. And on nice days you can venture out and see more stuff when you feel like doing so. ☀
You'll find your way soon and I do hope for Jordan as well he'll be able to make his itch go away and not want to rather be in the garage working on a project, lol. Don't mean it in a bad way at all of course! 😄I know how it is to want something to do and see more use of the time compared then doing what he's doing now.
The area looks good tho! Looking forward seeing any video as always.

Florida looked idyllic biking weather from here!!
