- After snagging a Game 1 victory, the Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back to defeat the Boston Celtics 118-94 in Game 2. Donovan Mitchell finished with 29 points (10-for-19 shooting), seven rebounds and eight assists. Jayson Tatum scored 25 points (7-for-17 shooting), seven rebounds and six assists. Colin Cowherd explains why Boston proved they "are not special" after the 24-point L. The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books and teams are now discussing long-term deals with their players. Two notable ones are Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff and Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa. Lions General Manager Brad Holmes said that Goff has "earned" an extension with the team. Colin looks at both situations and then explains why he would rather extend Goff than Tua.

Gotta give Brad Holmes credit for seeing Goff's potential, everyone else thought Goff was a bridge QB at the end of his run. Brad Holmes knew better.
Brad knows that you can't expect the Qb to carry the whole roster. Goff is a high character dude. Experienced. Brad is a good man and a good GM. Happy for Detroit.

Rams Jared Goff was a bit like Tua. Young QB who could get the ball where it needed to be quickly with a coach that would scheme up that ideal first read for him. He's evolved his game in Detroit though, becoming one of the best at reading defenses before the snap and getting through progressions. A lot of it comes from his experience of playing QB for so long now but Campbell and Johnson also coach him a lot differently than McVay did.
If any other QB had the same o-line like Goff has, he would do the same. Remember Prescott when he got his o-line right ? It will be the same story with Goff if his o-line is gone..
Celtics are up 2-1 round 2 of the playoffs while missing a 20/10 center. What are we talking about here ?!

Could you imagine Bird's Celtics getting destroyed at home so much, in the playoffs? The 1985-86 Celtics were 50-1 at home, playoffs included, then the next year, in the regular season, were 39-2 at home. And one of those "home" losses, was in Hartford. It was such BS having to play 3 "home" games a year, in The Hartford Civic Center. This current Celtics team is very well constructed, and very talented, but totally lack pride on their home court. Luckily, they are dominant on the road.

Colin has always been like that but with Nick it started with him saying he liked the Mahomes pick and thus feeling like he’s ahead of the football world in picking QB’s. It’s why he feels so strongly about Trevor, and Purdy, and Caleb Williams.

There is not a single NFL fan that is sitting around asking their buddies "would you give an extension to Tua or Goff?" Herd basically asked his producers to come up with a segment that trashes Tua and this is what they came up with.

I agree with Colin’s Goff opinion. He deserves a pay raise. And Tua is talented but he does seem to shrink in the playoffs or not make them at all. Goff has a much better resume. I think Goff gets judged by his horrendous performance in Super Bowl 53. He was a statue and Belichick ate him alive, but times change and situations change. This isn’t 2018, it’s 2024. A lot of quarterbacks not named Patrick Mahommes got destroyed by Belichick’s defenses.

Eastern Conference is being very underrated definitely a lot of injuries which makes The Celtics path easier but the East vs West records against each other does not support The West being so much better. Donavan Mitchell is a beast guy is a scoring machine and everyone in love with TWolves because they stole 2 games against Denver who has zero depth. 🤔 Tatum will get out of his little slump and shut a lot of people up .
Cavs have an historically great playoff upset, and Colin barely mentions them.
Should add KD to that list, he is a bucket getter not a trophy holder. Steph was the one who could get along with others

Head to head isn’t the most important thing when comparing players in sports.
No way he just said Jared Goff is made for all weather. Jared Goff is not bad, but come on him and Tua are similar.
Goff has performed well for a long time in a city that hasn't had any real success in over 50 years. Also when he was traded to Detroit for Stafford, Goff was mostly maligned and forgotten about. His career with the Lions has been excellent for him, his brand, his career and especially for the franchise.
Tua hasn't done any of those things for Miami, has he?
Put Goff on Miami and you get similar results put Tua on Detroit and you get similar results

The offense is already stacked and it’s clear that Tua can’t do what’s needed in the playoffs: elevate a team and make plays out of structure. He will get paid and the Dolphins will be a 1st/2nd round exit for the next 3/4 years
Jason Tatum has no killer instinct. There's still time for to find his inner Kobe but, until then, I can't consider the Celtics elite. They are DAMN GOOD, don't get me wrong, surely ALMOST elite. They might even win the Chip. They'll go as far as JT will take them. In my opinion.

I am a Celtics fan but this team is hard to love. They play soft especially when the 3 is not falling. They have no plan B. They are all in on the 3. Tatum and Brown play very similar style. We need someone more like a young Jimmy Buckets. Home court means nothing in Boston.

How is one being done faster than the other when neither is done, nor is there any info out there as to exactly when either QB will be extended? When it comes to the meltdown in San Fran, Goff is probably one of the last players on the Lions who you'd point the finger at. He played well in that game and threw accurate passes in crucial moments that his receivers dropped. Not to mention the Gibbs fumble and the defensive collapse too.

Goff is more reliable than Tua, but I wouldn’t want either as QB. Goff likely will be the 3rd Best QB in his own division by thd end of the year. He is almost entirely dependent on his O Line. He could be the 11th Best QB in the NFC by year's end

It is not hard to imagine a World where Caleb and Jayden Daniels are better by year's End. That is 10. This would place Goff at #11. I haven't even mentioned Baker yet, although I would probably favor Goff over Baker currently.

Lions are primed for a downfall. Won the division because Cousins got hurt and because Love was getting his feet wet. Green Bay was better at the end of the year. Their head coach is awful at managing games. They had basically no injuries last year. They only won their first playoff game because the refs missed an obvious PI. Throw in the biggest choke in NFCCG history. Games like that affect teams.

They win a lot in the regular season, consistently make it to the Conference Championship, they’ve been to a SuperBowl/NBA FINALS, are always a legit title contender, have multiple all-stars, good role players, etc.
