That’s what happened with me as well. Took from my first time playing the game (which was just a few weeks after it’s release) to now, about 12 years later to finally recovery my surprised memories are trauma
That's right. "Londerland view mode" (LOL) is a symbol of Alice being finally in full control of her mind. It's making her vision of the world bright and colorful.
That moment at which Alice becomes her Wonderland self, there's a subtle roar, and I can't help but think that this is symbolic of the whole of Wonderland standing together with Alice - the Cheshire Cat, the Queen, the Hatter, the White Rabbit, etc - all to finally enact their vengeance on Bumby for what he did to Alice
He probably meant that Alice can't torment and blame herself anymore about the fire. The past has been dealt with, revenge was served and twisted memories are now clear.
“Madness and destruction. You shouldn’t ask questions you already know the answer to, it’s not polite.” I don’t know why but I would often quote that after finishing this game. It’s been years since I played it, now that I’m older the story kind of hits ya different. Like I knew it was messed up. But didn’t realize it was fucked up. Also, I don’t know how I missed the full extent of what the doctor was doing to those kids. I guess at the time I originally played I either wasn’t paying attention or didn’t have the capability of understanding. I just thought he was erasing their bad memories. But it was so much worse. Ugh I’m depressed hahaha.
I honestly believe that when Bumby saw Alice change into her Wonderland dress right in front of him, Alice's control over her mental Wonderland has finally on her grip now.. like she has "willed" her psyche in the real world.. just my theory.. hehe..
Yeah I‘d agree. To me it symbolizes her taking action aka „taking the power back“. Alice for the most part of the game has been taken action inwards to heal herself by menory recovery as well as confronting her memories. But it was always inwards. In the outer world she‘s powerless. Aimlessly walking around, getting overpowered by her wonderland delusions, getting creeped on by fishermen, getting beat up by a pimp and aimlessly stumbling around the real world as she‘s hallucinating or daydreaming as the creator claimed. In the last cutscene she‘s turning back already given up and then she changes into her wonderland self to finally take action in the real world. In her circumstance she‘s basically enforcing justice that she‘d be powerless to do if she abided by the law. In wich I‘m referring to another early scene. In the beginning alice sais she doesn‘t want to fight or be violent. She doesn‘t enjoy fighting especially not killing. She isn‘t thirsty for blood. But in the end she learns that the only way she can enforce justice isn‘t by being pacifistic. She‘s committing murder as a form of justice that‘s been overlooked by the law. And to me that‘s another way of selling the point of „you have to take action. Even if it‘s ugly, painful and scary.“ and that to me is incredibly powerful. Like bumby said. She‘d have been disregarded as a loon because of her illness. She wouldn‘t. No she couldn‘t get justice because of an injustice in their very system. So the only way for her to get real justice is to stop letting the outer world abuse her and push her around and instead take action. And she did. And by doing so she took care of a monster that‘s been corrupting and hurting so many innocent women and children. In a way alice learned to stand up for both herself and others by being kind of a real life superhero who wouldn‘t let injustices in her world and her time period stop her from enforcing real justice just like she did in her wonderland. Of course should victims of voilence irl try to get justice legally. And i‘m not saying that victims should just have fought back. Instead I‘m trying to say rhat no matter how hard it is. Standing up for yourself and others is really important and empowering and that you should never let others take that away from you. And if standing up for yourself means getting a therapist, using self defense to save yourself or your loved ones, or standing up for those who are being taken advantage of is something you should do and you deserve that justice. That‘s incredibly empowering. Way more so than someone swooping you off the floor and saving you. That doesn‘t mean being saved isn‘t just as valuable. But Alice is about being strong and standing up for yourself especially when there‘s noone there who will save you. And that‘s extremely important. If you need help you need to stand up for yourself and get that therapist. Or you need to speak out to the police. Because you‘ll always be indefinitely tied to yourself so you have to stand up for yourself because you are worth getting better. You are worth getting help. You are worth getting justice. And if that‘s not empowering, nothing is.
@@takke9830 Bruh, i honestly have issues With this game & what it Does to alice & bumby which i Have a disdain for, cause Hes a bad character in General, i also hate how Literally alice has nobody in her life & shes just a Perpetual victim, being Used by people, being peeped on by 1-note Fishermen, like everyone & everyone is out to get Here its so nhilistic & depressing, its just bad to watch & feels Like a deconstruction Of what made alice in wonderland great Its just ugly, miserable Bleak & void of life im just not a fan.

Ok does anyone else think that at 5:26 when her outfit changes to her "dream world" dress that it means that things are no longer happening in real time? That she simply killed him inside her imagination? That although the truth was uncovered she is still in fact at the asylum?
sarah martinez no. this simply represent the fact that the alice from wonderland( the murderous one who slice thousand of monster) take the control in real world to kill bumby. just like the pupetmaster say, the train is a creation of alice. it was his response to the damage caused by bumby: destroy him. when she finally understand the evilness of the man, she go inside the train, admiting the only solution to save his own mind is to kill the doctor before he leave.
I actually didn't know the American McGee's Alice had a sequel. I just played this game recently for the first time and finished it today and the ending was dark indeed which explains her trauma preferring to be at Wonderland. Imagine you were a child sleeping and all of a sudden you hear someone creeping around your house to find out later some pedophile is hurting one of your siblings as you hear their screams begging to stop and letting go .. It's an extremely unpleasant memory that would be carved in the brain for the rest of one's life as it's agonizing to carry such a big memory burden and feeling the hatred toward one's self and the hatred for others as well. The ending was unsatisfying, but I know why the developers didn't want to go even more darker path with a more bloody ending that would leave us gamers traumatized of what she was about to do to him after his bravado speech.. Even Victor Zsasz is more sane than Alice at this point
I have a theory about this ending and it's actually even less of a happy ending. Bumby actually survives at the end of this game. He manages to take the train and get away with all of the horrible things he did. Because of this, Alice surrenders what remained of her sanity and chooses to live permanently in Wonderland. The reason I think this comes from when she suddenly begins wearing the Wonderland outfit when she decides to kill him. She created a scenario for herself where she succeeded in getting her revenge and her wearing her Wonderland outfit represents this being a fantasy.
No, I think Bumby died. What I think is that when she walked away, he was stunned at her being so brave to take the key- and when she abruptly turned around, with that *_hatred_* burning in her eyes, it freaked him out and he made that face. While she did not literally have a dress on, she did have confidence that a train was conveniently about to pass the station. It's also theorized according to the Wiki that since Bumby was close to death, he saw her as having the dress while Wonderland and the real world merged in her mind. They both saw the same thing as Alice pushed him onto the tracks. This is a 2 year old comment, I know, but I figured I'd clarify what the symbolism was. The dress, and her sight of Wonderland- is what gives her so much power. In other words, her ability to remember not just everything they tried to make her forget, but the things that made her happy, were enough to give her the courage to push Bumby.
i know that this was probably not intended, but so much of this game actually mimicks so much of the structures of dissociative identity disorder and trauma based mind control that it's insane. it was kind of confronting the first time i looked through it, but if i had to say anything is good accidental c-did representation it's gotta be this game
what we can see in the end? alice never was insane or in real madness (in other chapter we can see the reference that she never was in madness, said by that fat guy that I forget the name, the guy that like oriental things), but she was traumatized, and used imagination to protect herself... her sister for sure is cute and obviously when the dr invaded her room and the queen mentioned the voices, it was rape. because the dr, she was diving in real insanity and even the imagination world was getting worse, she almost fall in real madness, bumby thought that finished it and he admitted the crime, never thought she'd react. when she finally won the battle vs him inside her, she got the control of herself and made it, and not fall on the ground or started to cry. the final scene shows how she feel, she not was trapped in it, because the wonderland in this story is the imagination world, the beauty valley is just a cover, but she still see the real world (but would be impossible to show what she see with the eyes and imagination at same time in a 3D game lolz), and when the wonderland was restored, it mean she finally was fine. I don't know what they will do if continue this story, they probably will blame her for dr death and she will be depressed again

Anyone else here think Alice going back a forth to wonderland during the confrontation between her and brumby was her having a mental break, and her pushing him in front of the train (in her wonderland form, no less) was her killing herself? That's why Wonderland is safe, but blended into the Real World. Alice couldn't stop the train. When the camera panned out, she was talking to herself, Brumby wasn't there. No? Ok, just me 😥

I didn't even know there was going to be another sequel. From what it looks like, I'm not even sure she killed bumby. But, from what I've watched in other videos explaining the symbolism and everything, she didn't decide to just stay in Wonderland. She killed herself and is forever stuck there in Wonderland. As the cat says, you can't go home again. So I'm guessing she died but I'm not sure if she really killed bumby or not as she was talking to someone who wasn't even there. If you can make out what the cat really means at the end it might help because I myself am still a bit lost. Because for one, Wonderland was all just in her head right? I'm just still not quite sure I can put my finger on it when the cat says delusions too die hard. I'm still lost....
he showed up in all the scenes in my game, wierd, my take is that she *does* kill him, and the only way she could do it was to "become" the strong Alice she wanted to be in her fantasies, problem is, this causes that her mind is left broken, and she overlaps both worlds in her mind now
I just replayed the last chapter of the game and if you look really closely you can actually see Bumby's shoulder behind the pillar when people claim he disappears
5:34 I heard about this game dark tone horrifying monsters, ungrateful man, delusional protagonist but loved dark fantasy manga, gaming, movies, but sadly the modern media trying lowing dark tone and grinping story telling one kid it not all butterflies and rainbows in reality.
she basically is not insane anymore, because the wonderland was fixed, she was in trouble when his interior was under destruction. in the end, she is free finally, not insane, just imagination.
From what I understand McGee said that Alice gained control over her inner demons and her mental scape. Alive in Otherlands was going to be her helping others do the same (we did see a bit of that when she talks to Verne in Leviathan) but the actual sequel, Asylum, well I dont know what that will be about but god damn I am excited
I will, first alice is having visions of wonderland being Turned into a nightmare, she snaps back to reality talks With a guy named dr. Bumby Who obviously wont be a Saturday morning supervillain She leaves the orphanage Then she meets a weird elderly lady who turns into a weird monster, she then Goes into wonderland meets The cheshire cat, she is told About a train destroying Wonderland called the Infernal train, then she Goes through wonderland Learns about her past & turns out yep it was The doctor all along He acts out of character & says cringe dialogue Acts inept & lets a girl Push him on a train Dude didnt fight back Or try to take out alice He just let her kill him Cause hes dumb, then Wonderland & the real World combine & the Game ends.
Well, it wouldn't matter if Alice had proof of what Bumby did since that would not permit her to murder him; she'd be charged regardless. However, she may still not go to jail; afterall, there is nothing to suggest that anyone witnessed her kill him

Well, I really hope that there is a third game, it would be like playing in different characters' viewpoints, I think; I read from wikipedia that it might not be able to have another one in the near future because of the lack of interest from the EA Games.
So... did she actually killed the doctor or was it only in her mind ? Because scenes before, she is seen in a white bed (psychiatric) and the back again, and of course, the dress from dream world is present. Everything in the story is clear for but that, is he dead or not?
I believe he did I think her sudden change of clothes to Wonderland's represents her finally remembering and accepting what happened plus gaining all the courage she needed to do what had to be done Aka, killing that disgusting and shitty excuse of a doctor
i prefer the ending where she Never defeated him at all & he just died a long time Ago, would make it creepier In my opinion if he was just a figment of her imagination a ghost haunting her.
Interesting. ^^ My parents say that the Queen of Hearts is a satire for real life queen known as Queen Mary of Scotland. She had quite a big head and well her death sentence is beheading.
When I finished the game and Alice walked out of the subway and onto the street with the "hospital" she was in her regular blue Wonderland dress. If you find all the snouts, bottles, and memories do you unlock the dress seen in this video? I tried googling it but I couldn't find anything about it.
Hey... this is called the "Caterpillar Dress", it is from DLC "Weapons of Madness and Dresses Pack" - you should be able to google those and find more info.
wait how is Alice dead? when did she die? when i played the game i thought she was still alive, but she was just stuck in wonderland (or londerland) forever?
Alice isn't dead, I personally think that she is stuck in a sort of in-between of reality and Wonderland because she can no longer tell what is real and what isn't. It's just a theory though ^^
if people get hit by a train, truck, car, anything in that speed, they die, but if you hope to see blood you will wait forever... that speed is far to show any blood

So, I gotta ask, was I the only one that didnt like this ending? Honestly, I thought it was a really cheap and lazy attempt at being edgy, something that the rest of the game seemed to be avoiding.

T_T I wish someone like her still exists in real life.
〈The Nickname〉 my thoughts exactly
But she grabbed Lizzie's keys before changing her outfit

The most beautiful ending in this game I loved it made me wanna cry. The most beautiful of all time. God bless this game. 😂
i know that this was probably not intended, but so much of this game actually mimicks so much of the structures of dissociative identity disorder and trauma based mind control that it's insane. it was kind of confronting the first time i looked through it, but if i had to say anything is good accidental c-did representation it's gotta be this game
The first part of this scene, I did for a theater play. I had the teacher and some of the other students looking at my group like “TF?!”
what we can see in the end? alice never was insane or in real madness (in other chapter we can see the reference that she never was in madness, said by that fat guy that I forget the name, the guy that like oriental things), but she was traumatized, and used imagination to protect herself...
her sister for sure is cute and obviously when the dr invaded her room and the queen mentioned the voices, it was rape.
because the dr, she was diving in real insanity and even the imagination world was getting worse, she almost fall in real madness, bumby thought that finished it and he admitted the crime, never thought she'd react. when she finally won the battle vs him inside her, she got the control of herself and made it, and not fall on the ground or started to cry.
the final scene shows how she feel, she not was trapped in it, because the wonderland in this story is the imagination world, the beauty valley is just a cover, but she still see the real world (but would be impossible to show what she see with the eyes and imagination at same time in a 3D game lolz), and when the wonderland was restored, it mean she finally was fine.
I don't know what they will do if continue this story, they probably will blame her for dr death and she will be depressed again

She decided to stay in wonderland? Is she alive? did she really killed Bumby!??
***** The sequel is planned to be released in December
It could be just a glitch in the game, bro...
he showed up in all the scenes in my game, wierd, my take is that she *does* kill him, and the only way she could do it was to "become" the strong Alice she wanted to be in her fantasies, problem is, this causes that her mind is left broken, and she overlaps both worlds in her mind now
I just replayed the last chapter of the game and if you look really closely you can actually see Bumby's shoulder behind the pillar when people claim he disappears
@ComingInFromTheColdx The one with the wings? That is the "Caterpillar Dress", available in a DLC.

She isnt dead she is just lost in her madness.
She's not dead, you Dingus! It's called imagination. What are you stupid or something?
Did you not see that London and Wonderland merged together? That means that Alice has finally gone insane.
she basically is not insane anymore, because the wonderland was fixed, she was in trouble when his interior was under destruction.
in the end, she is free finally, not insane, just imagination.

What "more interesting" ending did you expect though? They presented a unique mystery, and gave a resolution to it.
