You really helped me learn to nail this song. Thanks. I've only been playing seriously for about 6 weeks, but after spending a few hours watching your vid, replaying the sections that were difficult for me at 75% speed, I think I've got it pretty locked down. Really appreciate your excellent playing.
Steve, this is just excellent! Just for laughs I decided to learn some bass guitar in the last six months and your cover is what I play along with developing my chops on the bass. So funky! Stevie of course is a genius, but I don't think enough people are aware of the complexity of his music and the quality of the musicians with which he always surrounds himself. As always I struggle to match your mastery of the triplets on the hi hat and the very tasty comping rhythms on the snare.
I've seen a few of your videos and I appreciate the era your covering! Many of them are what I enjoyed playing too. Keep it up enjoy your style and selections!
Steve, I've been checking out your UA-cam stuff. You play very nicely. You have a great feel. I also appreciate that you don't embellish the part. Keep it up!
Keep practicing the song until you know it so well you can do it in your sleep. Don't concentrate on too much on the hi-hat part...just make sure the groove SWINGS! Good luck with your show!!!!
Thanks for this! I always wanted to play to I wish but wasn't sure of the hi hat. I was playing sixteenths (which by the way doesn't sound bad either). 😎
+SlickSticks989 Thanks for watching!! "I Wish" (get it) I could explain what I'm doing with my hands but I SUCK at explaining things. I'm a self-taught, play-it-by-ear weekend warrior. But here goes: I'm doing a funky version of a jazz ride cymbal pattern with my right hand. My left hand is kind of "bouncing" and ghosting notes opposite what my right hand is doing but always keeping a solid back beat on 2 and 4. See what I mean? I SUCK at explaining things. :-(
hahaha its totally fine you helped me out by saying they are playing ghost notes opposite ur right hand, i can see ur right hand fine, ur left was difficult but i'll just ghost the opposite notes too. thanks!!
Rob Pearson Thanks for the input. I listened to the song again with headphones. I'm hearing 8th note and 16th note combinations in the hi hat part. Admittedly, I am playing a busier hi hat part than the original recording. Thanks again!
Rob Pearson Sorry to break the idea...but in the original track he is certainly playing triplets. The triplets are actually very important...cause it makes the locomotive run. Ofcourse you CAN always play it straight but then you loose the special feel from this song. Instead of triplets with ur dominant hand you also can play it the way Toco is playing it in the Chorus. You certainly need that backbeat on 2 and 4. Regards
You have a serious natural flow to your playing. Like to see you tackle "Aja" by Steely Dan one day if possible. There was a video once by another percussionist that was simply superior, but has since disappeared. Here's a partial ---> ua-cam.com/video/jA7CKlZ8usQ/v-deo.html. Thanks and rock on!
+zerep11 Thank you for your words of encouragement. I checked out the link of the guy playing Aja. He totally nailed those fills. I posted a cover of Aja some time ago but my version was lame so I deleted it. I just can't figure out how to play the Gadd fills. Thanks again!!!
Yes, I have a lot of cymbals in the drum set I keep at home. My channel has around 450 drum videos. Some songs need certain cymbals so I like to have a variety depending on the song I'm playing. I only use the cymbals that make sense with a certain song.

I'm glad to have inspired you to play your bass. You bassists are the foundation of every band. Thank you!!!
Excellent! I like how you combined both the rock beat and the disco beat (on the snare and the high hat) for this song. I really enjoyed it!
This song is a total blast to play. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did recording it!!! Thank you!!
You have such an innate sense of groove! Your fills are fantastic! Job well done!

I’m doing a concert and I play this song and I’m super nervous since doing those constant movements on the hi-hat gets tiring..
Keep practicing the song until you know it so well you can do it in your sleep. Don't concentrate on too much on the hi-hat part...just make sure the groove SWINGS! Good luck with your show!!!!

That finae's fine!
One small comment he plays straight eight notes on Hi-Hats but otherwise good feel
