Thank you Dr. Greger, thank you! I “stumbled” into the Plant Based Diet, not knowing what I had started about a year ago. I was in bad health with severe digestive problems and I decided to cut out meat, dairy and eggs - just to see if I would feel better. Little did I know how quickly my health would improve dramatically. Now I am learning from you the reasons why. I’m NEVER going back to eat the way I did before.

WFPB wasn't enough for me to get off 3 asthma medications. I found Brooke Goldner, MD's free protocol using 'supermarket foods', as she puts it, did it for me. She healed from auto-immune lupus this way 16 years ago and has a website and lots of UA-cam videos. The contributor above said to check out Dr. Morse. I tried his protocol and it just didn't work for me eating only fruit and taking herbs. All the best to you!

I found processed meats gross before going vegan, but they never fail to get more revolting.

Same here...even my dad's doctor told us all to QUIT any processed AND red meats back in 1986 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer.

I consider Dr. Greger an aquired taste... one that took me a few videos to get used to.
The mountains of information I have consumed thanks to the good doctor have made it worth the slight irritation.
Calling out corporations for lying is only one of the reasons why I like the guy.
Plus... Nobody else is willing to "Put it to the test".

@@Robert-yc9ql He can be credited with one significant thing: he is a doctor not willing to accept his own state's medical board recommendations for both drug prescriptions and food prescriptions. He is otherwise an extremely arrogant person. You would not believe how many doctors told me to simply eat mediterranean and swallow gorilla sized doses of plavix, metropolol, and statin after my heart attack

I'm still confused as f..K about the difference between nitrates in greens and nitrites/nitrates in processed meat. Does the nitrates in greens get added to meat (incl. Processed meat) to stop it decaying and it turns into nitrites? In which case get spinach and celery out of your diet as well? Thanks for the information linking nitrites to emphysima...never heard that before.

In conclusion synthetic processed meats when mixed with Nitrates or Nitrites cause lung issues, dna issues, cancer risks, blood pressure issues.
But when consuming ‘natural’ vegetables that contain high levels of Nitrates ‘improves’ human health.
Makes sense to me. Nitrite’s/Nitrates sound very similar to the whole natural sugars debate.
When you add sugar to synthetic processed foods that causes human health issues but eating an apple a day still keeps the doctor away. But when you abuse your body then unfortunately you can’t even enjoy a banana.
This podcast confirms my stance I’m staying away from processed meats going forward. Oh and this was the first UA-cam channel that mentioned nitrates were also a byproduct of tobacco smoke. Which is unanimously harmful to human health. Thank you!!!!!

Yes, nitrites are made by your body when you eat beets. Wonder food for better liver function too! Even cheap canned beets work. I add a bit of sweetener and apple cider vinegar to make pickled beets out of canned beets or to fresh grated beets to mask the earthy taste.

In the very rare occasions I do eat bacon I always choose the organic with no nitrites added. The meat doesn't look as pretty as the other ones and it's barely noticeable taste wise.
