one thing I think is misunderstood in the Alice cut scenes is that she isn't necessarily talking about the UAA rankings when she tells Travis that he's the one who got out. She's most likely referring to how Travis was able to deny his blood lust, something she failed to do, by walking away from the rankings.
@@BeyondAnimation You earned another sub for being an articulate individual. Thank you. Can you do Henry Cooldown or any other NO More Heroes character?
I don’t think you can analyze Travis without looking at his parallels with Henry, Henry is a rational sane man who slowly devolves into a bloodthirsty lunatic over the course of the came, the exact opposite of Travis’ arc, they make perfect foils for each other
3:50 I only just realized now after over a decade of playing this game that even though Death Metal says "So long as I have this scenery to look upon" yet when the camera finally gets to his eyes they're completely shut. He only looks at the view twice in the cutscene, yet he says that he doesn't need anything else. I might be reading too much into it but it seems like he might even be sick of the view that was the only thing he apparently needed. Also, love how he says that his home isn't a Paradise, but a place to die, only for Travis to follow it up in the next scene saying "here's your ticket to paradise" followed by Death Metal meeting his end. It's pretty poetic.
It could also be taken as "as long as i see nothing" he is content. He yearns for death, so much so he feels relief when he gets to close his eyes and embrace the darkness
Travis Touchdown in my opinion, is a character that not a lot of people realize how serious of an arc he goes through. Like how he glorifies murder until meeting Holly. Where his entire outlook on the rankings for instance begins to change. I haven’t seen any video on NMH go this in-depth, This analysis does a great job delving into the madness! -Sam
And it happens again in the second game too. After he is forced to kill Alice Twilight, he angrily confronts Sylvia on her [and by extension the UAA's] callousness by telling her Assassins are people too and how fucked up it is to not only order someone dead but shrug off their death with nary an afterthought later. The more I play NMH3 the more the New Henry grows on me when you get down to it, the series, mainly TSA is Travis on a quest to kill his past, while it feels like Henry failed to do so and became corrupted by it, to the point where just watching a Marvel movie was enough to trigger a God complex
I find Henry's character change to be interesting because since the beginning, he was always "the opposite of Travis." He's still the "opposite of Travis" but in a different context.

Travis is a pretty deep character secretly. He’s coated in stereotypes and typical behavior. He was kinda like Deadpool before the movie came out. He always breaks the 3rd wall but more importantly challenges the typical game hero archetype. Travis has a tragic past, he’s a reckloose loner who’s only friend is the video store guy up the street from his house, his an introverted incel at first probably bitter of how his life has been up to this point. I would further analyze that he is extremely cruel and loves killing with not a lot of remorse. The first time he kills someone he doesn’t even feel bad. He does grow throughout the game though through his climb to the top.

The only arguably sane person he knows is his "friend" that runs the video store, but then again in the intro he refers to him as just "the dude at the video store", and all he does in the game is fetch his bike for him with little to no dialogue, so who knows if that friendship is even legitimate. When I first played this game, I asked the exact same question as you, and from my investigation I believe THAT'S why Shinobu killed the other students in her character introduction. Man, looking at what Travis says in NMH1 through new eyes is NOT the same as looking at it now with knowledge of the other games Dude is FUCKED UP (I mean obviously but holy shit)
Okay so this may be weird but I think the UA was real. I think Sylvia set up her disappearance before the final match because the UAA couldn’t have a number one assassin that was only in it to get laid. They needed to be sure even if he wasn’t able to have it, he would still fight to get the number one spot.
I always thought that the assassins in No more Heroes 2 while being less reflections of Travis and more like his fans was deliberate. The main enemy Pizza bat hates Travis with all his heart and wants to destroy his life. What better way to get a dig at Travis by setting up a ranking fights full of people who idolize him and force him to kill them. In so Pizza Bat can destroy the Fandom of Travis Touchdown While destroying Travis himself. Its why he's bought most of Santa Destroy and redeveloped it. He won't allow the city to belong to Travis even if he has to buy every inch of it to make sure that he can deny the legacy of Travis. In a way the extravagance and posturing of Pizza Bat has completely altered Santa Destroy with His money. It can even be seen as why the game with just a map and not overworld. Santa destroy is no longer Travis's World it belongs to Pizza Bat. I also believe that the Rankings were always fake in the 1st game the influx of Cash from Pizza Bat and the Presence of Travis Turned the perverted killing into a more accepted practice. In way Pizza Bat accidently cemented Travis's legacy by legitimizing the UAA and Crafting another Ranking ladder for Travis.
YESSS!!! I literally said the same thing about Gintoki and Travis. They share so much in common in their respective fields of entertainment. I love them both dearly…. Would you like to collaborate for that discussion ??
You put so much work into your content. I really appreciated this video. Been a long time No More Heroes fan since the beginning but I learned some things I didn't know before
Today be the day!!!!!! NMH3!!!!!!!! I've enjoyed really seeing Travis change through the games. It really is like growing up with him, I played the wii game as a 15 year old and then played desperate struggle when it came out in the switch. And now, like literally today, am finishing the DLC's for Travis Strikes Back, and he's just turned into such a veteran assassin that just has a deeper understanding of life. It like Travis is now the older assassin a young one would come after and he would advise them not to, but kill them still if it's their wish
Well I just realized that Sylvia and Travis have the same relationship as Makima and Denji from chainsaw man. Also Denji and Travis are really similar in terms of personality and scopes
Honestly I heavily disagree. Makima wanted to use Denji for her personal gain, Sylvia wanted Travis to get revenge and unlike Makima who played sweet. Silvia openly mocks Travis before every ranking fight
@@BeyondAnimation you are right. Makima towards Denji is way more cruel and her ultimate goal is Denji's destruction But Denji towards Makima and Travis towards Sylvia are way more similar. Searching for boobies, sex and violence in a really nuance way
I think if no more heroes were to continue after 3 it should be as a different protagonist each game as it would be easier to explore different themes of characters within the same universe. Nmh3 looks really fun tho.
I mean why not make a game in the universe but have you create the character and have decision trees to decide what path you would take in terms of ideology and have different sets of weapons to customize or choose from. But you know it’s just a idea
Travis' story really has ended at this point (or rather, it has in the fact that it's shown it will never end, but has reached its resting point). So I think other protagonists in the same world is definitely the way to go. Hell, that way, there could be a Travis Touchdown boss fight.
@@yellowstalk6653 I’d say Shinobu would be the best bet for a protag for NMH4ever, with his kids being runner ups. Hell, I’d actually like to see Travis bite the bullet. Maybe bring back Margaret for it, I dunno.
It's probably going to take another decade, but I'm so hyped for nmh4. The fact that we'll most likely see his family is awesome. And it feels like the story is just beginning if that makes sense
It sucks how introspective TSA was and then NMH3 comes out and it tries way too hard to be super wacky, might be the point...but knowing the punchline doesn't make a bad joke land
I'd love a follow up for the end of Travis' story in NMH3 (reason I say it's his last as suda said NMH3 is the end of the franchise and travis touchdown)
@@D.AblosFamilia I'm inclined to believe suda, he's not like sakurai who says he's done only to go ahead and make another game. Suda tends to be more firm in his decisions to end franchises / stories he's written, He tells the story he wants and when he's done he moves onto whatever story / genre he wants to tackle next
Suda talks in riddles sometimes. He likes to be upfront but let you read between the lines. No More Heroes is over. The theme, the story of Travis, essentially reached its end. All that’s left is for him to help his son and daughter who will take center stage as the main characters of their own story. There can’t be another No More Heroes since Travis killed his past. He’s beyond a legend now too. All that’s left is Henry.
though I love travis as a protagonist, I felt they should develop travis twin brother henry cooldown more cause I really like the rivalry between the two Edit: I’m also wondering if henry ever found out he had a sister in the first game
They turn Henry into more of a psycho. Might be a commentary on how the brothers are different. Travis puts the past behind him and tries to build a new life. Henry on the other hand finds more info on the past which contradicts the games cannon driving him to devolve into a true murderous monster. The violent past might not only refers to the plot but also Suda's previous violent and confusing games. The type of story Travis tries to escape.
Another cool detail about the fights in NMH is that despite Travis goring his enemies as he kills them and them bleeding profusely like a fountain, not once he gets blood on him except on his fight with Alice. It couls be seen as subtext for her death hitting him more personally than it ever hit the other guys, the first time feeling the warmth of another one's blood is enough to set him off and realize this senseless violence is wrong
I played no more heroes back in the day when it came out and enjoyed it but never got to play the second game so I'm using all the videos and reading all the bits of info I can get to understand who the hell is who before I continue no more heroes 3.
you forgot to say Travis and henry are like dante and vergil , i think both are very similar to vergil and dante , maybe suda has some devil may cry inspiration
While i personally find the gameplay of the no more heroes games incredibly frustrating and janky at times i really love your analysis of travis’s character.
*Sweating*...It's coning...soon? Maybe...? I'm waiting on DLC LMAO, need to wrap up that henry story, but I do wanna talk about the parallels of Fu and Travis and the energy they bring to each scene they're in.
@@pinhead5467 maybe touchdown is also a fake family? Brainwashing would actually explain why travis legitimately didnt know he was dating his sister in the past
Also surely the most frustrating fight in NMH2 is Million Gunman. Or. Y'know. Batt form 2. But that doesn't count, the other 2 forms are easier then Chloe Walsh
i felt at the time there wasnt much to talk about with Henry, I see now that he is a foil to travis and after the events of NMH3 it makes it harder to tackle. Hopefully we get DLC to wrap up HIS arc
Aye, like literally his entire character is just being what Travis isn't and I think that's pretty intentional. We basically learn nothing about him beyond what is necessary to set up cliffhangers and then the story as quickly moves on from him. Like; I think in No More Heroes 3 he's kind of a direct riff on Vergil from DMC a power-obsessed nutter who basically brings hell on earth to be the strongest based on a childhood turma,. This Henry is basically that without context, a parody of whatever Travis isn't at the moment. Is anything Henry says real? Does it matter? Hard to say, he's a character invested so hard into his niche that there's nothing really about him. XD
If you want follow my Twitter. twitter.com/Grimm_Gamesh And please subscribe! Also things I didn't know before making this video Travis prays to the Virgin mary every night to attonte for his sins. Neat detail
nmh 2 and 3 are nowhere near as good as the first in the series, after finishing nmh2 I was just insulted for how bad it is compared to the first in the series and especially after how bs is the ending for me is not even canon the spirit of the first game is totally absent at least for me, the first nmh story was cohesive and had a sense but overall it was a better game, don't know what happened after a lot of aspects I love about the game are missing and both normal enemies and assassins fights felt way weaker that the first game, it's such a shame...
It's a shame that NMH3 is the last game of the series, isn't it?😢 I've just knew the franchise thanks to the last game, but i don't know why this one despite be the last game suda51 decided to leave the series with an open ending
Ehh i played all the games on og release and even own the switch port i doubt this video will have anything to show me. 00:40 secs in and theres a Gintama comparison i never made considering thats one of my favorite anime to ever exist.. Ok i'll shut up and watch it all now.
As someone who just completed and is a new fan of NMH 1 but hasn’t played the sequel, the writing in 2 seems a lot less subtle and perhaps generic. In addition, not a fan of how they handled the ret-con of the UAA. Likely a result of Suda not being the main man. Sidenote: There are better comparisons than TLJ and Last Of Us 2, you are kinda not giving NMH credit by comparing them
There will be no last of us 2 and the last jedi slander here, I love both of them and after playing no more heroes 2 those are what I compare them too, especially last of us 2 because they have similar themes
@@BeyondAnimation sure they have similar themes but the execution of them is where the quality come from, the little that it adds compared to executing the simpler, more fundamental aspects to any piece of media well. From what I've seen here, NMH 2 does it far better than LOU2 because doesnt try and overestimate how deep it is
@@BeyondAnimation eh fair enough, you have more authority over judging it than I do. I certainly dont want to play/watch it to gather evidence from the criticisms i have seen. besides youtube comments is hardly the most convenient spot for a debate
I think sorachi and suda are quite similar with how bizarre they structer thier stories and how thier all able to mix comedy, 4thwall breaks and seriousness while it all feeling consistent. All the over the top things that happen in NMH could easily happen in Gintama and vice versa. I'd even chuck Yakuza into the mix. I haven't played to much MGS but I think Kojima takes him self much more seriously than Suda does.
Comparing No More Heroes to Last of Us 2... I believe that's what they call "A massive fucking stretch", good sir. At least No More Heroes 2 is a decent game with a decent story... ... And it also didn't outright lie in it's trailer material.
The last of us 2 to me is a far better game than no more heroes 2, the story imo is far better, I got more out of the last of us 2 while NMH2 left me disappointed with how it handled its story and it's gameplay(this is not an uncommon opinion about this game among the fanbase)NMH2 lowkey destroys the magic of the first game and forever taints the franchise to be this whacky crazy thing and loses alot of its grounded story telling. It was a small comparison on the idea of revenge in media. While the message of the last of us 2 is not about revenge it is a part of the game. Alot of video games have misleading trailers for various reasons. Games change during development. It's not cool to hate the last of us part 2. Especially not on this channel. To this day I'd rather play that again than No More Heroes 2. On this channel I analyze media, and I actually play and watch the things I talk about. This is really the wrong place to talk about the last of us 2. Nothing but love for that game here.
@@BeyondAnimation Yes. I mean, you see shinobu and Sylvia's heads on platters, so I'm confused. Are those heads fakes so he could scare Travis or something? That scene sent chills down my spine.
@@Micah.Lau.navi. yes their fakes, In the same scene henry shows up, and his head was on the plate and the narrator of the whole game is Slavia, not fo mention they're all I travis strikes again that takes place after 2 and before 3

Tbh… No more heroes 3 was… a massive disappointment in terms of story, gameplay, and character progression. It’s NMH 2 all over again. All wacky and stupid focus and “WACKY REFERENCES” left and right. God, was I let down badly.
@@BeyondAnimation For me… No More Heores 3 was a let down for me. Better than 2 but not as better as 1. The unneeded crossovers and over abundance of reference to the point where it butchers the dialogue and WAY too crazy even for No more heroes standards, downgraded customization, side jobs is needless when I can just fight aliens to gain money, you can’t combine light and heavy attacks. And of course… the story.
@@Mae4Ever i agree with most of your points. Not better than 1 or tsa story wise. The henry back story reveal was rather bizarre and kinda broke more of the lore. I wish travis got to talk to his kids. Dr.noami a tree and Jeane talking was also kinda meh. But Travis himself I appreciate his growth and the dynamic between him and Fuu. Also the game. I've learned after 2 NMH isn't going to be any more serious anymore. Tsa was the exception but the series is going in this zany direction I can enjoy but still I wish there was more. I enjoyed my time but it could have been better. The combat for me was fast and fluid, didn't like not being able.to customize the katanas but I understand why it was a thing.
@@BeyondAnimation All I’m hearing is that Suda forgotten what made the original so special. Zanyness wasn’t made NMH special. It’s over the top… but it kept itself grounded. Kinda like the Yakuza series. I feel like NMH fans forgotten that super-referential, over the top anime battles didn’t make it special. It was just a weeb trying to mimic his anime moves into the real world that happens to have weird moments where the fights get crazy and most importantly… the themes. Which NMH 3 lacks. You can analysis the story all you want, but NMH 3 will, and always be mediocre. But hey, like every suda fans said, “It’s ok if the game looks and runs like garbage! It’s what Suda intended!” Yeah. I do love his intentions for me to hate the game.
@@Mae4Ever considering the only people who appreciate the deep story are us. The minority. I can see why Suda moved away from it. I don't like it but ig travis is a 4th wall breaking zany character in a zany world. If I'm ranking story Nmh1 Tsa Nmh3 Nmh2 Gameplay Nmh1 Nmh3 Nmh2 Tsa

The way you wrote this, honestly you should be making these videos because this is extremely well thought out.
YESSS!!! I literally said the same thing about Gintoki and Travis. They share so much in common in their respective fields of entertainment.
I love them both dearly…. Would you like to collaborate for that discussion ??

@@BeyondAnimation Gene from God hand too
You put so much work into your content. I really appreciated this video. Been a long time No More Heroes fan since the beginning but I learned some things I didn't know before
I appreciate bro, been crafting this since December
Today be the day!!!!!! NMH3!!!!!!!! I've enjoyed really seeing Travis change through the games. It really is like growing up with him, I played the wii game as a 15 year old and then played desperate struggle when it came out in the switch. And now, like literally today, am finishing the DLC's for Travis Strikes Back, and he's just turned into such a veteran assassin that just has a deeper understanding of life. It like Travis is now the older assassin a young one would come after and he would advise them not to, but kill them still if it's their wish
he's become death metal
Well I just realized that Sylvia and Travis have the same relationship as Makima and Denji from chainsaw man.
Also Denji and Travis are really similar in terms of personality and scopes
Denji almost dies for tiddies so yee
Honestly I heavily disagree. Makima wanted to use Denji for her personal gain, Sylvia wanted Travis to get revenge and unlike Makima who played sweet. Silvia openly mocks Travis before every ranking fight
@@BeyondAnimation you are right. Makima towards Denji is way more cruel and her ultimate goal is Denji's destruction
But Denji towards Makima and Travis towards Sylvia are way more similar. Searching for boobies, sex and violence in a really nuance way
The resemblance in their respective relationship dynamics is superficial. Their actual characters and motivations are way too different.
Ehh makima was pretending to be makima in the sense she was the control devil pretending to be caring and loving person. Sylvia is Sylvia a con artist
I think if no more heroes were to continue after 3 it should be as a different protagonist each game as it would be easier to explore different themes of characters within the same universe. Nmh3 looks really fun tho.
Funny thing to mention
I mean why not make a game in the universe but have you create the character and have decision trees to decide what path you would take in terms of ideology and have different sets of weapons to customize or choose from. But you know it’s just a idea
Travis' story really has ended at this point (or rather, it has in the fact that it's shown it will never end, but has reached its resting point). So I think other protagonists in the same world is definitely the way to go. Hell, that way, there could be a Travis Touchdown boss fight.
@@yellowstalk6653
I’d say Shinobu would be the best bet for a protag for NMH4ever, with his kids being runner ups.
I’m so glad I found this video the day before 3 releases.

It sucks how introspective TSA was and then NMH3 comes out and it tries way too hard to be super wacky, might be the point...but knowing the punchline doesn't make a bad joke land

I'd love a follow up for the end of Travis' story in NMH3 (reason I say it's his last as suda said NMH3 is the end of the franchise and travis touchdown)
subscribe and you shall recieve
Press X to doubt, we'll get No More Heroes 4ever in a decade or two.
Pd: According to no more losers
Sylvia is from SCANDINAVIA
though I love travis as a protagonist, I felt they should develop travis twin brother henry cooldown more cause I really like the rivalry between the two
Edit: I’m also wondering if henry ever found out he had a sister in the first game
Maybe all will be revealed as you play the game(s)
They turn Henry into more of a psycho. Might be a commentary on how the brothers are different. Travis puts the past behind him and tries to build a new life. Henry on the other hand finds more info on the past which contradicts the games cannon driving him to devolve into a true murderous monster. The violent past might not only refers to the plot but also Suda's previous violent and confusing games. The type of story Travis tries to escape.
@@benjamincuevas9627 Travis killed his past, where Henry only dived in deeper. In this way he reflects Jeanne in NMH1
Amazing video dude. I loved every second of that and I can't wait to play through NMH3.
He's have to be one of the best videos that you ever make keep making long content
It's a long process. This only ended up being long by chance. I can't promise I'll make long content in the future consistently but it may happen
Imagine if the developers of this game made a deadpool game that would be awesome man
One little thing I like about Travis is his sense of Bushido as he may be an assassin but he sees himself as a samurai
Thanx for this vid bro,,,great vid
Ryuji being a parallel to Travis makes since, considering that's a Yakuza reference and this is THIS game
Always love me some NMH content, now an analysis video? HELL YEAH I’M WATCHING!
Keep up the great work. I'm sure you'll find your audience in no time!

@@BeyondAnimation Take your time, man.
Yo someone just exposed there sauce shortcuts when they were watching the NMH 2 destroy man analyses.
Who me? Couldn't be
fake henry's backstory has absolutely no continuity with jeane's explanation in nmh1
Fr for some reason Jeanne is the younger sister the dad killed the mom and they didn’t even knew eachother existed before nmh1
NMH2 ... Is my favorite... But ok love the video
I respect the opinion
@@BeyondAnimation xD i get why people do not like it. 😁👍 Do not worry there is not going to be a in defense of NMH2
Is there any explanation as to why the characters talk weird in Travis Strikes Back?
Suda is weird
Just for style, TSA was meant to be an "Indie" game.
Travis is not a hero....he's a no more hero.
Intro plays
He's our No More Hero
This video is great, i just wish you talked about Henry
i felt at the time there wasnt much to talk about with Henry, I see now that he is a foil to travis and after the events of NMH3 it makes it harder to tackle. Hopefully we get DLC to wrap up HIS arc
@@BeyondAnimation for sure
XD
I love no more heroes it’s really awesome and badass
Doppelganger drops the F91 chip, is that a gundam reference?

Is it just me or Travis' voice when Bishop dies Roronora Zoro?
Fun fact in the Japanese dub he is zoro

Honestly. Nmh3 ending wasn't what I expected at all.
@@BeyondAnimation Same. Some questions answered, YET MANY MORE MADE. Just like Suda51 and I wouldn't have it any other way.
It's a shame that NMH3 is the last game of the series, isn't it?😢 I've just knew the franchise thanks to the last game, but i don't know why this one despite be the last game suda51 decided to leave the series with an open ending

Reminder that travis killed the quintet in no more heroes 2
In the revenge missions
Also comparing the last jedi to no more heroes feels wrong
Last jedi is good, no more heroes is good. I see no problem in comparing. Also I forgot about that. I can't even remember fighting him
@@BeyondAnimation I think last jedi had a lot of room for improcedente
But hey people like different things
@@BeyondAnimation also the quintet are 5
As someone who just completed and is a new fan of NMH 1 but hasn’t played the sequel, the writing in 2 seems a lot less subtle and perhaps generic.
From what I've seen here, NMH 2 does it far better than LOU2 because doesnt try and overestimate how deep it is
Hey, I disagree, being someone who played both games.
@@BeyondAnimation eh fair enough, you have more authority over judging it than I do. I certainly dont want to play/watch it to gather evidence from the criticisms i have seen. besides youtube comments is hardly the most convenient spot for a debate

Suda and Hideo Kojima are more similar then Hideaki Sorachi could be
I think sorachi and suda are quite similar with how bizarre they structer thier stories and how thier all able to mix comedy, 4thwall breaks and seriousness while it all feeling consistent. All the over the top things that happen in NMH could easily happen in Gintama and vice versa. I'd even chuck Yakuza into the mix.
Well make character analysis SUB

Tbh… No more heroes 3 was… a massive disappointment in terms of story, gameplay, and character progression. It’s NMH 2 all over again. All wacky and stupid focus and “WACKY REFERENCES” left and right. God, was I let down badly.
I actual disagree some maybe I'll touch on it in my future video
It’s what Suda intended!”
