Hidden Air Compressor Install - Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator
Вставка

- Having the ability to easily air up your tires after a long day on the trail is helpful, but having to lug around a bulky air compressor or installing one in a storage area that takes up space just isn't ideal. In this video, I install the ARB Twin Air Compressor and mount system on my wife's 2018 Jeep Wrangler. This mounting system tucked the compressor away in a nice location, but allows for ease of use when you need to inflate and deflate your tires.

A "Little Patience" my A**!!!
But seriously thank you!
Received the compressor and bracket yesterday and installed last night. This is exactly the solution I wanted: I thought I was going to have to settle for the single motor solution. The install went as described with the exception of "getting to those nuts was a little tricky, but a little patience ...." To seat those nuts it took me an hour and a half and a 20 minute taride of profanity and expletives, even came up with a few new phrases I didn't even knew existed.
Hey Brad! I'm deployed to Afghanistan currently and I thank you for your videos as they bring a piece of home to me. I'll hopefully be back home to Lake Tahoe in the next few months and I can't wait to get in the Jeep and hit the trails! Thank you, and if you're ever in the Lake Tahoe area I would love to chat and hit the trails!
All the best,
Nick
Great video. There's a trick with the clips on the fender. If you put needle nose on the clips on the inside and just barely squeeze, they pop off without breaking any and with almost no additional effort.
I don't have a Jeep, but I still like to see well engineered aftermarket accessories.
Was interesting cause most installs I seen mounts it just under the hood. I have a KL Cherokee and thinking about where I want to install one for when traveling and camping. I'll prob do it in the actual truck on the side. Though these videos give me more ideas for installs of stuff we don't have kits for on other vehicals.
Step 1 : get a Jeep
Step 2 : modify it
Result : part of an American family tradition
@@likeorasgod I have plans for a nice JGC build using a new TrailHawk swap in that 5L Cummins and go from there. just need the dosh to make it happen lol. thanks covid!
“Okay guys, this install is super easy…” (proceeds to take off the fender) LOL. I thank you for the video, it was easy to follow and I did just fine. Keep making more.
Everything is so clean and new it’s hard to believe that car has ever been off road!!
Bought this last night as soon as I received the e-mail. Been waiting for it’s release since I saw it on Lite Brite
Love your videos! I wanted to pass along a tip. If you will turn your roll of teflon tape 180 degrees it will be much, much easier to wrap the threads. It will allow easy roll-off of the tape!
Appreciate the time Brad takes to do these videos, think about all the extra time he added to this project by setting up the camera for every step. Great job!
Thanks for the great walk through. I did this install this weekend and it turned out great. The Grimm instructions were good but watching this made it a lot more clear.
Thanks for the great video!! I have the dual ARBs too. We channeled the hoses to chucks on the front and back bumpers. Makes it super easy to air up.
Just wondering what type of hose you used to extend to the back
You made it look easy Brad...
Thank you for walking us through it.
🇺🇸
I'd put hose clamps on those rubber hoses, even though the fittings are barbed... I've seen hoses with barbed fittings work loose. Haven't seen any work loose with hose clamps.
There's no pressure on the lines, they are just breather tubes for the filters so no real need for clamps.
@@bigK124 True, but if one pops off, and you suck in a bunch of dirt or mud (and don't realize it), you're compressor is trashed.
@@bigK124 I've had them pop off just from vibration alone... always hose clamp.
Great install video. That loos like an awesome kit, much easier than others I have seen. I am going to need one for my JL.
Really clean and great looking stuff....I enjoy it so much when the aftermarket offers a slick install like that!!!
Good job Brad and surely your wife will be delighted. Thanks for sharing another great video.
I’d totally buy this ARB compressor and mount kit if you’d install it for me Brad. Great job!
Nice kit! Only change I’d make is to put the air connection on the bumper so you don’t need to raise the hood to use it. Use one of the Jeep stock aux switches to turn on the pump and you’re good to go.
I just want to ride my Jeep off road. This is the space ship knowledge. ..greatly apprecitated.
Thanks for your informative video. Installed my ARB compressor in about 4 hours. Ordered the fender clips ahead of time. That was a good idea because every clip broke.
Always look forward to a trail recon update. Best on the tube.
Thank You for keeping this video on line. it really helped me with my install' and I appreciate you for all your videos .
with that being said we did do the Bronco peak in San Deigo a month ago and it is way worse than your video but very fun..
I bought that same kit from your site. It's a great setup and inflates my tires pretty quick and was easy to install. I would suggest buying all 10 of the fender clips and when disconnecting the turn signal harness, pull out the red lever and press the small red button to release. I screwed around with the fender for an hour trying to figure it out...otherwise an easy install.
Thinking of installing this in my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn at some point. It's a lot easier with a TJ, there's a metal shelf to the right of the brake booster like it was made for this ARB compressor. For now, my ViAir compressor still does a great job. Can't believe how little room there is under those Jl hoods. I think your son made a great decision getting a TJ, a lot less tech bells and whistles.
I have this mounted in the engine compartment in my 2005 TJ. Works great, it’s waterproof and engine heat is not causing any issues. I mounted it on the fender well where my air box used to be. Not near the motor. No issues. Not a cheap product, but works great, very well made. (I have no connection with the manufacturer)
So you have submerged it under water and never had any issues?
Any improvement one can do while wearing shorts and flip flops is right up my alley
After watching this video this is exactly the setup I’ve been looking for, I’ve been wanting to install ARB dual air compressor on my Gladiator and just wasn’t sure about the location. But after seeing the Grimes off-road mount system that was perfect for me, Especially the switch location as my factory switches on the dash have already been designated for different parts on the vehicle such as off road lights, rock lights, etc. Using my E3 overland discount I order the Grimm Off-road / ARB system today. Thanks for anther good video!
Awesome, glad you were able to find the solution you were looking for!
I have mine ( same ARB compressor as in the video) mounted behind the second seat, drivers side wall ( JLU Wrangler) right behind the C pillar with the manifold mounted in the well underneath the lift up floorboard in the back ( space was to tight between the C pillar/backseat/rollbar for the manifold) . Love that it's inside and not in the engine area; so no outside contaminates. Also runs my lockers. With the Mrs. JL 2door that looks like a great place!
Just got off work and cracked a beer and a cool video to watch not a bad way to end the day 🍻🍻🍻🍻
I can't wait to do this on mine... I'm going with the single though, for the amount I'd use it single will be fine.
Thanks!
Looks like ARB has some very talented Engineers to give everything in one small yet totally excess-able package perfect talent to the Engineering Team, I see it Engineers ! Great job ❤.
Thanks for sharing the reviews and installs. They are always helpful when looking into upgrading one of ours. We are still packing one in a recovery bag that gets moved from Jeep to Jeep. Keep up the great work.
This is slick! Just got my Gladiator and was wondering where I was going to mount my compressor.
So 3 years later. Does this get really dirty and muddy? I like this set up but i am just considering doin the under the seat mount just to keep it from the elements. I wasnt sure how funky it would get.
Keep up the videos Brad, especially the cooking vids with you and Marco. 2 things, awesome with the Teflon tape, but no clamps on the vent hoses and no loctite on those 4 bolts? That thing will vibe like crazy. Anywho. Keep em up!
Nice clean install good stuff I always cringe when those fenders come off no there pretty sturdy lol,, think that will be a great set up as always be safe 👍👍
I went to Vons tonight to get water and soda for tomorrow's Sandstone Trail trip. Imagine my surprise to see this Jeep backup right in front of me. Maybe we'll meet out on a trail some time?
Appreciate Cha My Man! That ARB is in my Amazon cart as we speak!!
that is super clean, well done! Another awesome install video Brad!
Thanks 👍
Great video, that I saw years ago, but am just now ready to buy. I just wish you had not skipped over the battery connection as that is one of the things, I would not want to mess up.
Thanks for this video, we are going to do this same install. We so appreciate this video! Thank again!
Not an Overlander, but I really enjoyed hearing about this product and watching the installation. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
I like the hidden idea, but I’m still gonna install mine under the back seat where it’ll get only clean air. lol Love that install though. :)
Hey Brad loving this idea. Will be doing my own DIY setup soon for the filter relocation.
Great vid. Tell the manufacturer to stop forgetting about us JK guys. There are still more JKs sold than JL and Gladiator. We need easy out of the way brackets too, LoL....but seriously I've neem wanting to do this for awhile and have not found a good place to mount the dual compressor. I have a single ARB dedicated to the lockers and want a second dedicated to tires and tools. Thanks
Definitely considering this for my ‘21 Willys. Subscribed! Cheers from Ontario.
Excellent video. Would have loved to have seen the specifics on wiring to the battery etc.
This would be destroyed in that location first trail I ever did in Georgia we are creek heavy over the tire, but great video I specifically got help with the color wires you used. I ended up having to make my own wire harness as it comes not long enough and extremely messy.
Hey Brad, man that's a slick system, I guess that'll another add to my NEW 2021 Rubicon that I'm ordering Monday. WaaaHooo. Also I joined E3 Premium membership. Great info there Brother. Keep it going
Great video ... the kit was exactly what I've been looking for. BUT, in the small print, Grimm points out that it fits JL's with OEM equipped fenders and inner liners. There is so much variance between aftermarket liners that they didn't/couldn't accommodate them in the design. Shame on me, but I didn't read/understand this until after my kit was installed. If you have OEM fenders/liners, this is a great kit that was well designed and manufactured with quality parts. If you have aftermarket inner liners you need to be aware that it most likely won't work ... AAL and Metalcloak are two that it won't work with.
Brad - love to see you guys over there using good Aussie made products. Great video. Wish there was a RHD option for my JT.
If the US gets the Aussie made ones, then what price I wonder. They cost an arm and a leg in Australia.
Very nice although i kinda like a 10lb co2 tank. It's super fast and it's fun going to the shop to get it refilled occasionally.
I didnt feel the same excitement from you in this one Brad. This rona is getting to the best of us
Thank you very much for the informative video nice work
Glad it was helpful!
Hey ! Triple yellow Jeeps popping up for me since a recent video you made. I have seen 3 now. One a 2-door and two 4-doors.
Cool set up! Wish this was out when I installed mine.
Saw a yellow on yellow on yellow two-door Jeep in Globe, AZ on Friday...thought I had found one but alas the closer it came I realized it was a yellow on yellow on yellow TJ. 😜
Nice video... Totally off topic but being a Coleman collector I couldn't help notice your lanterns and coolers on your shelf... I use nothing but Coleman white gas lanterns and stoves on my camp trips.
Be sure you have plenty of the clips for the fender. Otherwise pretty easy install. Thanx you sir for the video. No instruction in my kit.
I didn't find instructions in my kit either, good thing he did the video.
I pack around Milwaukee 18v inflator with Flexzilla air hose. All fits inside small Husky bag. Its very mobile. Only costed me 250 dollars, including two 6.0ah batteries and charger. I can charge from onboard inverter.
That is the exact style kit I’ve been looking for!
Awesome overview for the new bracket for the engine compartment for the twin ARB air compressor. I want to replace my portable unit but would prefer to either have the compressor in the storage compartment by the tailgate or the MORE bracket behind the driver side passenger. I’d be too worried that the dirt and heat from the engine bay would wear out the compressor pre-maturely.
Why in the world would anyone give a thumbs down on this video? If you don’t like the product...the video was still great! SMH.
Keep up the great work.
I hooked my twin Arb up to a Spider Air so now I pump up all 4 tires at the same time and they are all the same pressure. And I can stll use an Arb air hose kit if I want to because the hose has the same fitting.
Put rear seat in storage. JLR cargo problem solved. Carry ARB in case. Move it from one vehicle to another. Move it to a vehicle that needs it on the trail. Leave it at home when you are grocery shopping. Save the compressor from exposure to the elements. I just can't rationalize a hard install no matter how cool i think it seems.
another, very helpful, how to video! Thanks, Brad!
Nice! I need to find this for my JK!
The tire will not hit the air pump when its fully flex ?
Sorry for my english
I wish they made a kit like this for a TJ
Good stuff I have a similar set up. Keep in mind if you ever go inner fenders might have to trim them in a weird spot.
Looking under the hood of my JLU 2.0L, the bracket & setup under the hood will not have space because of a small fuse box in the way.
Hello congratulations for the video tutorial, I may have a link where you got the compressor and all the assembly kit for a 2021 Wrangler JL 3-door.
Thanks Ivan
Installed mine under my drivers side backseat. Works perfect and is out of the elements.
Can you still fold down the seats?
JT Ahlstrom it’s an unlimited so yeah. Guess I should have clarified.
Did you create your own mount or use the ARB underseat mount, but mounted it under back seats rather than front seat? Also, did you remove carpeting or shield it somehow?
RK Endsley The compressor is already on a bracket. I took it and put some really strong double sided Velcro on it and stuck it under the seat. That may sound cheap but works like a champ. The bottom of the bracket doesn’t get hot. Not in my testing at least. It’s also blocked by the seat brackets so I wouldn’t expect it to come out in an accident.
You make it look so easy.
Definately a clean install...IDK about all the connections being waterproof though.
Locktite or something similar would have been nice on the pump mount bolts.
Nice install regardless.
Great video.. probably a good idea to put some hose clamps on those rubber hoses though
Blue monster is a great teff tape FYI
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thank you. 👍🏼
Take it from a CM2. You need to install hose clamps.
I was about to place an order and just read it's not compatible with the diesel version due to windshield washer reservoir location. Damn!
Very nicely done Instal Video Brad. With their instructions and your video even I could do this! But, since I have a WK and not a Wrangler, I’ve been using a good portable compressor for a couple years. It’s come in handy for use on other vehicles as well. Could the mounting bracket have been bolted to the firewall first, then the compressor mounted to it? Nice work and delivery as always!
I’ll have to keep this in mind if I ever get a Jeep.
Great video as always! But wasn’t the ARB mounted air compressor one of the items on your mods you no longer have on your jeep that you posted a year ago? Just curious what made you change your mind??
True!
It's been a while, but I believe he ditched the single compressor because he was using a PowerTank CO2 compressor in the JK. I don't think there was any particular issue he had with it, just liked his new system better. For a more casual off-road vehicle, though (like the JL he's using here) this is probably a better option.
This is for the Mrs. It has double tank instead of single.
Brad switch to the co2 tank for his rig.
Snarky Panda, I got that from the video. Just wondering why he didn’t put the CO2 tank for the Mrs as well.
Hey Brad, in the two years have you had any issues with the location, dust and heat etc ?
No issues!
great video.. but is it really necessary to take all these efforts to install this compressor... cant a mobile compressor do?
I'm actually was searching for reviews on something like this I'm trying to figure a nice spot to install it on my gladiator
Same let me know if u find anything cool
@@apladdict7063 ok will do.
Jeep needs to include air compressors from the factory. They know how we use them. It's like com on. About time you notice what are the necessary things when offloading and overlanding.
So after having some time with this mod do you have any pros and cons? I would like to add this to my JL but i have questions. Does it ever overheat being in the engine compartment? Does water fording damage the unit at all? Will getting "flexy" while rock crawling make contact if you have oversized tires?
Would love if he responded to this.
@@megan8494 they are almost always in the engine bay they were designed for that although some have put them under the front seat or in the back.
I have had this exact set up for about 2 years and have had no issues at all. I plumbed my to air all 4 tires at once with a switch inside the cabin so I don't even have to open the hood. Have a regulator hooked up to it so my tires automatically fill up to 37 psi and turn off all while in the air conditioned cab.
@@kentipton1203 Do you have a part # for the regulator or link by chance?
Are you going to do a video about the new Bronco?
Is there any disadvantage to wiring this setup directly to the factory AUX switches?
Great video, thanks for sharing!
I strongly recommend on all that bolts including any air connection use 242 loctite. I done whole garage air system using only this medium strength loctite and had since no any air leak. It is much better than any top brand Teflon tape
I'm loving it! Great install! I have a JK Willys, wondering if Grimm Offroad has something similar for my rig. May I ask, what size tire and Wheel do you have installed? I think you've mentioned 35's - really like the wheel package you've picked out...I've learned a whole lot just by watching your videos. You Rock!
Did you make a long term review of this mount and compressor?
curious...would just removing the inner fender liner be another way to install? I have a rivet gun and can replace the liner back. Just didn't see why removing the whole fender necessary.
Great video Brad, just wondering if you know if this kit fits on a 2023 2.0L non Etorque engine? Thanks
Join e3 , sad always no shipping outside USA....
How would it fair in some deep water crossing? Submerging the compressor?
Brad, you should mention that this bracket kit does not fit on JL's with the 2.0L turbo.
