Harimoto's last 7 points are so solid, look at that! All along the match he had quite a bit of trouble with his backhand/forehand transitions, lots of balls in the net. LGY's shots were deep and in the middle. But he still managed to get lots of points with his amazing backhand flicks and loops. Some great reflex passive blocks as well. And then mentally... Poor LGY this one will hurt!!!

@@thewizardssleeve119 there is some truth to this, but the serving of Harimoto at the end of the last 2 sets was just incredibly good. Possibly some of the best serving I have ever seen.

@@bernardlanguillier7970 Completely agree. Harimoto changed his service pattern, length and placement quite unpredictably for the tight moments and Lin simply had no answer to that. Lin was made to choke by Harimoto, he didn't make it happen by himself. And yes - that was some of the smartest and shrewdest serving I can ever remember seeing.

Harimoto has been suffering from slump for a long time. There are several reasons why he fell into such a situation. First of all, one of the major reasons is the excessive expectations from Japanese people. Next is the criticism from abroad for what he shouts during the match. He knew he was being criticized, but he felt hesitant and crying because he felt the fact that he would not be able to exert his true strength without it. However, he always remained polite on the court during such painful periods. As a fan of him, I am very pleased that the effort has finally taken shape.

Kind of seemed more like Lin didn't believe in himself. Once he gets to 9-4, he doesn't put a single ball in play that isn't a serve until he's down match point.
Harimoto wasn't doing anything phenomenal, Lin seemingly just surrendered. Mentality is a skillset, too, but you never know when mental fortitude or weakness will creep up. Once he adds speed to his rallies, he would be hard to beat .and lin's backhand was world class. Speed in the backhand return was giving lot of points.. wonder the difference of speed generated by this young generation of players vs a a calm and cool Zendong or Ma long.. sometimes it helps to give enough time to understand opponent's tactics.. instead of going in a frontier speed..

What a come back! Harimoto's techniques now is not as advanced as before, he used to stand as close to table as he can to use high speed to give his opponent pressure, his backhand techniques is top3, so his weekness of forehand can be well protected. Now while he is growing up, more muscles but also start to stand away from table, he is losing his speed but doesn't get his forehand really improved, from recent matches, he obviously cannot win in forehand rallys. This game, he wins not because his techniques is better than Lin gaoyuan, but his mental is stronger than opponent, congratulations to Harimoto but this victory won't change anything unless he really build a strong forehabd.

It hurts to know that you are capable of doing something yet you can't because of your own mindset
Speed, Power, Touch, Technique and Control of a World Champion, but the mental of a broken player. It's sad to see

This is NOT the first time Lin has lost amidst of huge advantage. I remember in 2017 world cup semi final he also lost to Timo in a similar way 3:4, especially in the last game, he was once 10:4 or 9:4 ahead but eventually lost. Don't really know how a strong player like Lin who went thru countless struggles to reach to the Chinese national team would have such mental problems but sadly he does. Hope he could recover soon, he's 28 yo, not much time left for him to shine in the international games...
