Nice to hear some Anthrax on your channel Doug! this album always brings me back. Enjoyed the reaction...as always! Edit: As a next song, if you want to stick to the same album, I loved "Indians" back in the day!
I saw the Metallica/ Anthrax Tour (Master of Puppets/ Spreading The Disease) in Cardiff St David's Hall, Wales, September 1986, 17 days before Cliff was killed in the coach crash. What a tragedy. Second time for Anthrax (and Metallica) at Donington Monsters of Rock Festival August 1987- Bon Jovi, Dio, Metallica, Anthrax, W.A.S.P. & Cinderella. I then saw Anthrax for the last time on the Among the Living Tour Cardiff again, November 1987. From the 'Among' album, classics are 'Indians' and 'I am The Law' . Best tracks from the previous album Spreading The Disease are A.I.R, Madhouse and Gung-Ho. You should also try to squeeze in something by Stormtroopers of Death - offshoot band with Scott Ian, Charlie Benante and Dan Lilker (bass player Anthrax/ Nuclear Assault/ Brutal Truth) and vocalist Billy Milano (Method of Destruction (M.O.D), Mastery) Phew!
Anthrax is more heavily focused on lyrics, to me, then being flashy. Check out Indians, Belly of the Beast or Blood Eagle Wings. That last song is from their most recent album. It shows that forty years later they still have the magic. They're my favorite band of the big four.
Who would have thought 1 year ago , we'd see the day where our Daily Doug be singing with stank face "Caught in a mosh" ! 🤘 That's gold mate , well done . Metal Doug is coming out with every episode , love it . 👍😁
I saw them perform this last year and Joey Belladonna sounds WAY better now than he did back then. His vocals were on point. He's just talking on this video. The album version is even better.
If you want my recommendation for an Anthrax listen it would be Who Cares Wins from State of Euphoria. It's a deeper cut of their and I think one of their more interesting songs in terms of structure. Also has, I think, Dan Spitz' best solo included.
Saw Anthrax many, many times live in the 80's and they were always great. Such a perfect band for your highscool life. Had such great stage presence and always put on an amazing show.
Hey Doug! If you want another song on that album, i believe ADI/Horror of it All is worthy. On their 4th album, id recommended Be All, End All. And off Persistence of Time, id recommend Belly of the Beast.
You're spot on about Anthrax not achieving the same commercial success as Metallica or Megadeth but they were still very influential and deserve to be part of the Big 4 Btw I broke 2 ribs in a pit in 1989 at a Metallica show when they were touring the Justice album haha 🧐✌️😎🤘
Man I gotta say, I saw these guys just a couple months ago and they actually blew me away. The notes Belladonna can hit at his age….dude wtf!!! Band is tight as hell and besides not having Danny Spitz it was a darn near classic lineup! Just put a smile on my face!
Its very nice to see a classical composer react this way to thrash metal songs. Many people think that metal is just noise. 818 episodes AND NOT ONE ABOUT SEPULTURA. Pick one song from the past days (before Roots album) with Max Cavalera on the guitars and vocals. Start with "Desperate Cry" or anything from Arise album
Was at a Less Than Jake show a few years back and noticed the trombone player looked familiar. It was Scott Ian filling in because the LTJ player had a broken leg.
@@alphaenemyplus8376 You are correct, the band was named Trust ( thank you Google). Now I gave to hear them, even though I don't speak French. Up the Irons!
Indians, I'm the Man..Anti Social, Madhouse, One thing I always like about Anthrax, especially back in these good ol' days. They were a serious thrash band that didn't take themselves all that seriously.. They were pretty funny. You had guys like Slayer, Megadeth and even Metallica super serious, serious, deep, religious and political lyrics then you had Anthrax not as much..
Love the Air drumming. Charlie Benante is phenomenal. I recommend A.I.R, or if you want something more recent Blood Eagle Wings. Intro to reality/Belly of the Beast is an epic composition
Other great Anthrax songs to listen to are Metal thrashing mad / Anthrax (Fistful of metal), Madhouse / A.I.R (Spreading the disease), I am the law / Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.) / Indians (Among the living), I am the man (1987 single), Antisocial (state of euphoria), Belly of the beast (Persistance of time), Bring the noise with rap band Public Enemy is the classic
Anthrax has an extensive catalog having been around for 40+ years. They had a time in the mid90s - early 2000s where John Bush was the lead singer and put out some really great music. I don’t think it will be the most requested era, but I think it’s definitely worth checking out.
"Bushthrax" is very underrated, imo. Sound of White Noise was a great album, and I personally loved all the albums after that. Stomp 442 is raw af, and Volume 8 was -quite literally - groovy. WCFYA was a nice follow-up, and then they kicked him out, because the fans wanted Joey back.
I'm not sure Doug's ready for I'm The Man. I don't think Anthrax wants anyone to *remember* I'm The Man. :) But it's an ancient high school in-joke for me, so I have a soft spot for it.
About 20 years ago I was supposed to go to one of Joey's solo shows but had to work due to my coworker having a family emergency. My friend was promoting the show and it somehow came up that I was a huge fan and couldn't come so Joey decided that they should come to the music store I was working at. He hung out for about half an hour just talking. When I saw him again after he rejoined Anthrax he remembered me. What a cool guy.
I would recommend songs from the Anthrax record Persistence of Time. This record is more matured and a little bit darker than the precious records allthough Among the Living is the most popular record. -Intro the reallity / Belly of the beast -In my world After Persistence they had a line up change and got an new singer John Bush and recorded Sound of white noise. Great record and def. different to the Joey Belladonna area. -Only -Invisible -Black lodge (it's a kind of ballad). Looking forward for the next metal Monday 🤘🏻
As Anthrax said in an interview in Revolver Magazine: The idea behind the title came to us when we were on the Spreading the Disease tour. We were in Denver, and it was a crazy show. Kids were just jumping onstage constantly, jumping on the pedals. One of our guitar techs at the time, Art Ring, went to throw a kid off stage, and the kid grabbed him, and they both went off stage. And the kid landed on Art, on his back. And I remember after the show in the dressing room, Art was fucked up really bad. And he came out with a quote, he goes "Oh, I got caught in a mosh." It was like, Ding! That's it.
While my favorites from Anthrax are still of the old school, head banging variety, I think something from The Sound of White Noise would be more to your liking. In my opinion, songs like "The Black Lodge" or "Only" are a bit more mature and not quite so much thrash all the time. I would love to see you react to either of those 2 songs. However, if you choose another song from either of the first 5 albums, I would be completely happy with that as well! Love your channel! Keep up the good work!
Nice to see Doug listening to a "new-to-him" band. I swear the Patreon followers who recommend the tracks for Metal Mondays only know 6 bands between them.
I saw Anthrax on that tour. The bill was Metal Church, Anthrax and Megadeth. You may want to check out some Metal Church. Good songs: Metal Church, Beyond the Black, God's of Wrath, Ton of Bricks, Badlands, Date with poverty etc. For other Anthrax songs: A.I.R. , Madhouse, Among the Living, Indians just off the top of my head. Thank you.
Brilliant to see you doing Anthrax! Love them. Think you'd love Black Lodge, Belly of the Beast and Bring the Noise. For a laugh you should react to I am the Man!
Anthrax was my first forey into thrash with Fist Full of Metal on tape. I recommend if you like Anthrax, try a full album listen to Persistence of Time
I don't know that he could sit through a whole album listen, but Keep It In The Family and Intro/Belly would be amazing to see him hear for the first time. Hopefully NOT LIVE lol
I had been trying to teach myself to play guitar for maybe 3 months or so when this album came out. I made it a goal to learn to play the rhythm parts for this whole album by the time I made it to a year. Broke a LOT of low E strings in the process, haha, but in the end I managed it! Such a fun album to play.
Quick second comment: the Among The Living album was released after Scott Ian and Charlie Benante recorded and released an album for a side project called S.O.D. (Stormtroopers Of Death). The album was called Speak English Or Die and was a Hardcore Punk influenced album. The band also included original Anthrax bass player Danny Lilker, who’d left Anthrax after their first album to join another band called Nuclear Assault that was started by another former Anthrax member and roadie, John Connelly. Scott Ian and Charlie Benante were still in S.O.D. mode when they were writing Among The Living so it has more of a hardcore edge than any other Anthrax album. This album is considered one of their best, but it’s a bit of an odd album compared to their other albums and probably wasn’t the best introduction to them.
Another thrash band you should check out is Dark Angel. Their nickname was 'The L.A. Caffeine Machine'. Even though Dark Angel were an influence on Slayer, they were unfortunately unable to break out of the underground. Dark Angel, for the most part, wrote intelligent lyrics & had one of the best drummers in the world, Gene Hoglan. Gene is known as 'The Atomic Clock'. Gene has even put out some instructional videos.
Time to take the trip across the pond and listen to some German thrash,,, Their big 3; Destruction, Sodom and Kreator. Then some Venom and Celtic Frost from the UK & Switzerland (respectivly).
Thanks for finally listen to Anthrax. I grew up with Among the living but Caught in a mosh is not the best song for Doug because it is one of the more simple songs musically. Don't get me wrong, I love it but Doug needs more that he can analyse. Greetings from Germany. Mosh hard.
Anthrax were always more fun than the others. They didn't take themselves too seriously and a lot of their songs have positive messages. I am the Law next please.
I don't always listen to Anthrax, but when I do, so do my neighbors.
Very nice. I like to say my neighbors listen to great music, whether they want to or not.

Anthrax is more heavily focused on lyrics, to me, then being flashy. Check out Indians, Belly of the Beast or Blood Eagle Wings. That last song is from their most recent album. It shows that forty years later they still have the magic. They're my favorite band of the big four.
Talking to you is like clapping with one ha-a-and(What is it??) Caught in a mosh!!
Who would have thought 1 year ago , we'd see the day where our Daily Doug be singing with stank face "Caught in a mosh" ! 🤘 That's gold mate , well done . Metal Doug is coming out with every episode , love it . 👍😁
Inside Out is one of my favorites. It's later and shows a different side.
I was into the scene at that time (doing covers of all the Big Four). I remember it when these first came out.
Next on the thrash metal list: Testament.
Edit: Also, if you want to see Anthrax at their best (IMHO), check out the song In The End.
"Indians" should be the next Anthrax song.
Nicefukinlife, Anthrax!
I saw them perform this last year and Joey Belladonna sounds WAY better now than he did back then. His vocals were on point. He's just talking on this video. The album version is even better.
I've been caught in quite a few moshes only regret a few of them but at my age I'm leaving it up the whippersnappers from now on
Amen to that! You kids can have the Mosh pit, I'm happy sitting in my seat on the side...
lol
I'd take Anthrax over Megadeath any day of the week, but that's just my preference!
ANTRAX!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Anthrax's Among The Living album is a masterpiece of melodic goodness
If you want my recommendation for an Anthrax listen it would be Who Cares Wins from State of Euphoria. It's a deeper cut of their and I think one of their more interesting songs in terms of structure. Also has, I think, Dan Spitz' best solo included.
Saw Anthrax many, many times live in the 80's and they were always great. Such a perfect band for your highscool life. Had such great stage presence and always put on an amazing show.
Any of the tracks from Persistence of Time!!
Who is next? Indians! (Did I make half of India's population so fucking proud for a sec? Probably yes!)
Native Americans.... The PC-title 😂
I'd suggest the first introduction should be the compilation of fan shot video of Among the Living in Chile.
WAAAAAARDAAAAAAAAANCE!!!!
Definitely Indians!
@@gamleskalle1 I think they've changed it to "indigenous peoples of north america" now
Suggestions for more Anthrax: Madhouse, Medusa, Be All End All.
You need to react to King Diamond - Sleepless Nights- Live At The Fillmore.......... you won't regret it
Was at a Less Than Jake show a few years back and noticed the trombone player looked familiar. It was Scott Ian filling in because the LTJ player had a broken leg.
love it when you can really hear the hardcore influence in thrash!!! really cool!
ah, what an Oidivnikufesin! i love the whole thing so much 🥰🤘 Charlie Benante is one of my all-time heroes…
The covers "Got the Time" (Joe Jackson) and "Pipeline" (The Ventures) are great. Antisocial and I Am the Law are good Anthrax originals as well.
Antisocial is a cover, and one of the better songs off State of Euphoria.
@@randallmartel7804 I didn't know that was a cover. Who did the original? I spilt beer on the cassette notes a LONG time ago!
@@jfernstenTrust, a French band that Nicko McBraln once played for.
@@alphaenemyplus8376 You are correct, the band was named Trust ( thank you Google). Now I gave to hear them, even though I don't speak French. Up the Irons!
@@alphaenemyplus8376 ...and my dumb self just realized you said the name of the band. I mis-read as saying "trust me". D'oh!
Spitz is my buddy. Great dude.
Next, with the most riffs in a single song: Annihilator with Alice in Hell!
Annihilator smokes Anthrax.
Great review. I agree they were the weakest link of the 4 and you explained it well. I’m a fan and saw them live. Very fun band to see live 🤘
I'm not sure Doug's ready for I'm The Man.
I don't think Anthrax wants anyone to *remember* I'm The Man. :)
But it's an ancient high school in-joke for me, so I have a soft spot for it.
Another Anthrax song I would recommend is “The Enemy” from their second album “Spreading the disease”
Pro tip: don’t listen to live tracks when checking out a new band. Next Anthrax song to check out: I Am the Law
To me, Anthrax has a bit of a punk vibe. You should check out the band DRI. They lean even more into the punk/crossover area. Good stuff.
D.R.I. - Acid Rain + the video would be cool to see Doug react to i think
Yes, both are definitely at that thrash intersection between punk and metal, where the traffic light is always green.
Madhouse from me.
Just saw them last year with Black Label Society.
Been a fan of Anthrax since there first and Heaviest album
Fist Full of Metal.
Same! I went for the Meet & Greet package with Anthrax. One of the greatest days of my life...
Think Doug needs to listen to some BLS??
I would recommend songs from the Anthrax record Persistence of Time. This record is more matured and a little bit darker than the precious records allthough Among the Living is the most popular record.
-Intro the reallity / Belly of the beast
-In my world
After Persistence they had a line up change and got an new singer John Bush and recorded Sound of white noise. Great record and def. different to the Joey Belladonna area.
-Only
-Invisible
-Black lodge (it's a kind of ballad).
Looking forward for the next metal Monday 🤘🏻
As Anthrax said in an interview in Revolver Magazine:
The idea behind the title came to us when we were on the Spreading the Disease tour.
The best channel on UA-cam, Doug is cool
Among the Living, follow me or die!!!!
This was my early youth. Loved it still do.
Time to take the trip across the pond and listen to some German thrash,,, Their big 3; Destruction, Sodom and Kreator. Then some Venom and Celtic Frost from the UK & Switzerland (respectivly).
Anthrax always have that New York attitude. Fun band with tons of great songs.
Thanks for finally listen to Anthrax. I grew up with Among the living but Caught in a mosh is not the best song for Doug because it is one of the more simple songs musically. Don't get me wrong, I love it but Doug needs more that he can analyse. Greetings from Germany. Mosh hard.
Soooo much good stuff from Anthrax. Even in the John Bush years. Got to meet them one backstage after a show in the Bush years.
Anthrax were always more fun than the others. They didn't take themselves too seriously and a lot of their songs have positive messages. I am the Law next please.
