The reporters actually reported back then. These days they cut and paste banal biased tweets and plagiarise.

as I have written before. women back then WERE SEXY, without showing a BIT OF SKIN!!! they didn't need to because they had TALENT! This movie, like most, were considered B movies. That's because they were filmed in a week and on a VERY LOW BUDGET!! A budget that was far less than stars like Clark Gable was paid for a movie like Gone with the Wind. Especially during the war years, movies were filmed quickly and on extremely low budgets. So those at home in America could go to a theater and watch a new movie, if not two, every week. And the actors and actresses didn't need Q cards, they KNEW their lines! IF they were paid ridiculous figures, like 8 million for each movie, or 1 million an episode, the American audiences would only have cartoons and news reels in the theaters!! It amazes and sickens me, because on TV, it costs the advertisers millions for a 30 second space and that cost IS passed onto US in the cost of the products advertised!! How in the world can the cast of shows like Friends be worth a million dollars EACH for each episode?!!? That cost is passed on, again, to US! I could go on and on but I'm certain that the reader understands what I'm saying!

Yeah, and when they would show just a BIT OF SKIN, like Veronica Lake in "I married a witch", it is not sexy anymore - it is RAGING with sex appeal...

There was a time, long, long ago when Hollywood made movies with a plot. Then they found out that sex and violence drew the lower element who had more time to watch movies.

    • @tomr3722

amen Billie. more and more writers and producers convinced studio bosses that the public WANTS skin and blood gutss and veins and the plot be damned!! in the old movies, when a person was shot, there was NO BLOOD, even when the body was drug to another location, beause the shooting was simply a part of the PLOT.

There was so little of it, they found it necessary to introduce the Heys Code, to make sure there would be even less of it.

Agree. To see if the film is interesting I usually look at a still a bit further in. By chance I landed at 10:20 where there's a close up of Carole.
I took a screen shot, played with Color Balance and could make a poster to hang on my wall!

Enjoyable yarn, an hour well spent. You know the more I see Caroles films the less I think of her suicide and the more I think of her talent and beauty.

@DAUGHTEROFBABYLON Perhaps, Rex Harrison played a part. He and Carole were having a fling, while he was married to another. Who knows. Very tragic, indeed. She was a fine actress and easy on the eyes.
