How amazing it might seem, he is still giving concerts. He celebrates his 80th year as a performing artist this year! We will listen to him playing a Haydn-Debussy-Chopin program in Piteå Feb 15 in our splendid concert hall!
How amazing it might seem, he still gives concerts! We will listen to him playing a Haydn-Chopin-Debussy program in Piteå, Sweden, Feb 15. We have a splendid concert hall, and a very nice Steinway, which he actually wanted to buy some 40 years ago. "I will do an encore. It is not a very long piece, it is by Mozart. I played it 80 years ago, and I like to play it once more!"
I've played this piece and I played with varying speeds so the audience could get the unique mood of each section. It was like each part was as if Mozart had different thoughts when composing this.
this is the version i like most.Maybe he was saying in german, he'd prefer the faster one so the audience could not fall asleep. one of the great piano teachers.
it actually sounds a bit better (although i think he should've used the petal in the adagio section or played more smoothly) playing it fast gives the impression of a storm coming and this works because the adagio section following sounds like sadness and pouring rain
I've spent the better part of my night learning this song. So far Im about 50 seconds into it. If I could play it as well one day (or even just close to as well) as he did. i shall be very happy with myself.
What i understood by this piece Mozart intended was Fantasia Equals Life. The Nuances of life must be played with sensitivity and open to interpretation by any artist and adapted to his perception of the nuances of life. The Real ideal way to play this is to play it with the mix of fluttery feeling and of lows or sordid and sorrowful yet it should pick up in the end. Thats why Mozart the genius he is left it to our interpretation by not completing this piece purposely. I really did not like the arrogance Leygraf played this piece just because he is near his last leg of his life. He should have instilled hope in the piece and instilled more of his suffering for us to know what life may bring. Fantasia is this Illusion of life.
Haha, and the people in the background with such straight faces. Whenever I hear people play instruments like this I can't help but smile. It's performances like these that make me want to take up playing piano
The arpeggio part wich Was supposed to be an adagio Was played a little bit too fast but Overall amazing Performance. Surely a man with many years of eyperience
He is not "playing it fast". If you listen to the accents, he is playing it in Alla Breve (aka "cut-time"). I've seen scores where its in 4/4 and others in 2/2.
Another work of genius by this composer!! Well played by this senior performer of repute!! Bravo kind sir!!
I love that Leygraf first played this 80 years ago and is still playing musically and with enjoyment. Music is like a marvellous friend.
one of the best performances of this piece ever heard
Leygraf mastered this piece eons ago. Now he just enjoys it in his own way. I like the way he flirts with it-a parody of the original. Thumbs up!
Beautiful, lovely to listen to. It was the Grade 6 exam in 1980 :)
Beautiful!!!! Thank you!!!

I love the way he plays this piece. I listen to it over and over again. amazing!

Wow! I loved his interpretation! So bright, light and fun to listen to.
so beautiful moving music Mozart..

When he finishes, he does up his button, like a boss!!
@SFChristo
You are right, correct text has allabreve, Andante allabreve, then Adagio allabreve. i feel Leygraf plays very well.
grandios
In fact, I think the beginning is supposed to be adagio.
i agree. The very beginning marked Andante is too fast for andante.
What a timing!

This is refreshing after hearing lots of slow versions
I really enjoyed this song, the speed may be faster than usual but that's how I like it.

meraviglioso
This one is good
i like the way he plays. it's studious in a way, like he's teaching the piano how to play
lol, look at Theon Greyjoy over there at the back.
yeah, he looks like zombie lol
lol lol lol yesss lol
what's with the extremely fast pace in the adagio section? it is rubato, sure, but that fast?
sheet music is specific about tempos and style.
At the end he grabbed his papers and said, "ok, give me a second I just want to slap the guy who was coughing. I'll be back in a second" =D

anyone notice the orchreshra people in the backround? lol, is that like proper or something, kinda wierd... nice playing though
That's because he is.
How would Mozart have played it? Anyone got a time machine?
The beginning is an ANDANTE, not "The time you want"
It´s Andante ALLA BREVE - so quite correct ! Please look at the original score!
An Adagio is not suposed to be played that fast....and don't even want to imagine how this old timer would play an Allegro Vivace.....
Clearly we wouldnt see his Fingers

Superb
hes okay
¿Why so fast?
Because it´s Andante ALLA BREVE ! The tempo is fine (better than most recordings). However - it could certainly be slightly more delicate imho.
I can care less. Played this when I was 10, and I don't brag about it on random videos.
Que serait la Vie sans la Musique de Mozart...?
oh gosh its freaking adagio its too fast
Fast, but still a very nice piece
but can you play it well?
He plays the piece too fast, it should be quiet and calm and filled with much more senses. He didn´t touch my heart.
Too Fast at the Beginning..
that was terrible
