I was unimpressed when he described the people as "poor". More appropriate word would be "simple". Money doesnt make a person "rich". Health and peace of mind do. I'm sure from a spiritual perspective, America can be seen as a poor country as well in terms of the violence, sexploitation, and people going crazy chasing money.
Laos is what I called home, our culture and traditions are based on Buddhism and living with nature. We welcome foreigners without doubts that sometimes can be our weakness that cause us heartaches. If you love nature and warmth and open possibilities Laos will always be my home at heart,

Have lived in northern Thailand for 17 years and been to Laos many times, usually on a motorbike, but sometimes public buses or private minivans (and some hitch hiking). It's worth noting that Thailand's population is around 70 million while Laos is about 1/10th as much, and Thailand (aside from 2020 due to covid-19) receives vastly way more tourists, and is a much more financially wealthy country where as Laos is still definitely 3rd world, and the majority of tourists go to just 3-5 places (Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Pakse, 4000 Islands). Agree Laos people seem more sincere and accommodating and less money-obsessed than what you find in the touristy spots in Thailand, especially the south. Laos is a great country to do a motorbike trip as there is very little traffic outside main cities, but the road network is very limited and if you have a breakdown in the middle of nowhere you need to have spares/tools/skill in making repairs. Also bear in mind that no matter how honest and kind people are in general there are still definitely bad apples. Tourists who carry hundreds of dollars in their wallet and walk around with $1000 cameras and phones need to realize for many locals that is an unimaginable sum of money for them so it's tempting. Don't leave valuables in your guesthouse/hotel room. Keep it with you or lock it up in a safe with a receipt. Also if riding public buses in the hilly north, beware for some reason hilltribe people are prone to road sickness and puke a lot, so carry extra plastic bags to pass around ;-)
Very good analysis. I know both countries well and you're spot on. Of course, once Laos becomes more popular with tourists, crime will increase and attitudes towards tourists will change too. Already more and more Lao are becoming very money obsessed, but this appears to be limited to the big cities (mainly Vientiane) for now. Hopefully the impact of Covid-19 won't last too long because both countries will suffer even more than they already have if it does.

Isaan is a dialect of Lao Vieng and Lao Dhai (Southern Lao). It’s political reasons in Thai nationalism that they lie to foreigners and won’t acknowledge this. The only difference now is Isaan is heavily mixed with Thai and Northern Kamai speech now. Thai citizens are taught a propagandist history and are taught to be very very nationalistic, like how American education system is towards the students. Most do not even know that their ancestors were brought over as slaves from the destruction of Lao Vieng Chan and Lao Champasak to build the new capital of Bangkok and populate the Western bank of the Mekong in 1828 (look up Lao Rebellion or Lao-Siamese War). This is the primary reasons why Laos is so underpopulated today with barely 4 million Lao-Tai, while Thailand has over 35 million within its modern borders.

Very well truthful about Laos and Lao people; very respect, nice, kind, happy and peaceful people. However, it is so sad to see foreigners take over Laos so quickly in Laos. Laos is still very much a poor country (90%) in 2019. The rich are those foreigners who can afford to buy land and do big businesses in Laos; very sad to see the natural and beauty environment destroy and trees cut down for new buildings and commercial industries. Laos is a peaceful country.

Very correct video. The people are very similar, especially away from the city/tourist areas. The affect of living in a communist run area is immediately apparent when you cross the border with Thailand. For Americans, Thailand is easier and far, far cheaper than Laos. 5 years experence
But almost stuff import from Thailand
Amazing that a Communist country is much more acceptable to a Western person than Thailand. I enjoyed my brief stay in Laos. Even the cops were friendly and kind.

This guy speak better Laos then me and I’m Laos 😂😂👍👍👍👍
Are you living in Laos?
Very well truthful about Laos and Lao people; very respect, nice, kind, happy and peaceful people. However, it is so sad to see foreigners take over Laos so quickly in Laos. Laos is still very much a poor country (90%) in 2019. The rich are those foreigners who can afford to buy land and do big businesses in Laos; very sad to see the natural and beauty environment destroy and trees cut down for new buildings and commercial industries. Laos is a peaceful country.
You are taking about Chinese right. I have the feeling as yours.
@@paulmatencio774 Not just Chinese's corporation but anyone with money who can afford to do business in Laos.
@@paulmatencio774 I believe in the near future if the high speed rail road is completed most small and large businesses including land will be bought by chinese with no question. Fell sorry for the Lao government!!!!
@@zuloonyennyoc8914 That's right. I believe it's part of the deal.

Hello 👍👍👍
I love Laos. I hope they can defend against the Chinese domination.
What are you talking about? Both Laos and China are Glorious Socialist countries. China is not an Imperialist country. Only Capitalist countries are Imperialist.
agree

Why don’t you talk about the parties and nightclubs. Hehe
I’ve been to nightclubs there, nothing compared to her neighbors Thailand and Vietnam. Laos is very tamed 😂
