When Eubank said to go to the body, he didn't do it to save Blackwell, he knew Blackwell had a good chin and Jr couldn't get him out of there, so as the saying goes, if you kill the body the head dies, it was purely a boxing tactic to target the body cos those with great chins can be broken down with body shots, nothing to do with mercy. I can understand the non boxing media being fooled by Eubank suggesting he had an honourable intention by saying go to the body, but boxing fans and media can surely see why he really said it. And btw, as usual, Eubank Jr ignored hia dads instructions and continued going to the head, the media never picked up on that and ran with the story.

I had the, I call it misfortune, of having a former boxer as a patient/resident of a long term care facility. I am a respiratory therapist and this boxer, who I will not name had suffered severe brain damage from a fight. He had a trach but had been weaned off the ventilator. However he was basically permanently vegetative. Yes every once in a while he would seem to track or change facial expression. This gave his mother hope and I never tell anyone not to have hope if they do. I can only say based on my experience what I have seen. But sometime after I left that job I heard he died. I never bothered to confirm it because it depressed the hell out of me. I heard the video of the fight is somewhere on UA-cam but I never could watch it. I told his mother that there is no way I would want to see it and that I admired him for all he had done and the courage he showed in the ring. Keep in mind at a place like that you get kinda of close to family and often they want to talk about things. I am careful though. But I developed a, (I guess bond is the word) with his mother. I was an amateur boxer from age 10 to 17 myself. So this is probably one of the reasons this particular patient affected me so much. Plus he was very young. I think early 20's. Boxing is safer than it used to be, but there is no possible way to 100% prevent this. It is usually cumulative punches over 9 to 12 rounds that do damage. And in many cases the fight is very close so it doesn't warrant being stopped. Better trained refs could help though. I think in the case I am speaking of the boxers legs were showing signs of damage a round before he collapsed.
@@bobbywise2313I think better trainers are the cure for it. The fighters well being is their responsibility because they know them best. A good trainer wont hesitate to throw the towel. Look at Ali vs Frazier 3 for an example of a top shelf trainer. He didnt care that it was the final round or that Joe Frazier begged him not to stop it, honestly, him throwing the towel impressed me as much as the fight did.
@@Cereal_Killer007 This is very true. He told Joe, "no one will ever forget what you did here today", after Joe begged for that last round. And I think he was correct. It is the chief seconds job to protect his fighter and no when to say we are done today. It is also their job to tell them when it is time to hang up the gloves. Most fighters think they still have it even though their bodies clearly don't. I think Angelo Dundee should not have let Ali get into the ring with a prime Larry Holmes. It took everything he had to beat Spinks in the rematch. And Leon was just an ok heavyweight. He was not in the same league as prime Holmes. Plus Ali had been in a long lay off and had no tune up fights. I will add many in his camp were saying he was not right and struggled jumping rope and other simple things. I think the money was just too much for Angelo and his managers.
@@bobbywise2313 in a interview Dundee said that he begged Ali to stop fighting but Ali refused to stop and said "If you wont train me then ill find someone who will" and after hearing that he felt that anyone but him would get Ali killed. So it was because Dundee cared about Ali that he kept training him. I didnt expect that answer from him but I gave him a whole lot of respect after hearing it
@@Cereal_Killer007 I don't doubt that and Ali was broke at the time as well. But there was some shady things from some of his medical test that was somehow covered up. For the Holmes fight he was in no condition to fight any unranked heavyweight because of the thyroid med he was on. He was told it was a vitamin. He was off of that for the Berbick fight and was at least competitive but clearly not even close to what he was just a few years earlier. So I will not totally blame Dundee but at the same time I have to wonder if he could have done something to prevent him from getting into the ring with an all time great in his prime. Even the Ali that beat Spinks would have lost to prime Holmes. The Ali of 74 might beat Larry and of course the 66 Ali would beat him. But after Manila Ali was pretty shot. The other thing is should Dundee have stopped it sooner. Ali was clearly a helpless fighter and was taking a beating. Holmes held back at times because he did not want to hurt his former boss and idol.
Chris, Micheal and Nigel were amazing to me as a young man. It was a great time for British boxing, i remember shouting at the top of my lungs with the telly volume on full blast, watching Chris and Nigel fight. A great time to be alive.
@CanwegetSubscriberswithn-cu2it are you on about Steve Collins? Eubank and Benn weren't the same fighter's after seriously injuring Watson and McClennan in the ring
This was a heartwarming story. The same thing happened to Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini. When he killed a Korean boxer he lost his instinct. Chris Eubank seems like a man who rose above his circumstances and refined himself. Good on him!!!
Michael was a great middleweight, one of the best british middleweights the last 60 years. He was a real hand full for Benn and Eubank and wouldve given groves, froch or even Calzaghe a helluva fight. It was so sad how Watson turned away thinking he had won the fight and got caught. Mac Clelland was also so unlucky against Benn. Its such a brutal game and you have to give huge thanks and respect for improving health and safety and purses for boxers. What a great man, an anti war protestor too. I love this man for that. God bless him, he clearly has had mental health strugglrs like Fury and Bruno but is truely a great man with a big heart and i feel so sorry for him having to cope with rthe guilt of that punch but its so unlucky and it couldve been any boxer who it couldve happened to. Boxers know the risk. Imagine all the boxers who earn nothing despite all the training, sacrifice and risk to their health. My dad was an amateur boxer years ago boxing for Kettering but my mum thinks it should be banned and cant watch it.

This Fight really showed the very best of Chris Eubank Snr He's a True Champion and when he told Chris Eubank Jr to stop hitting Nick Blackwell in the Head and just finish him with Punches to the Body I truly believe that if he hadn't stepped in then Nick Blackwell would have suffered Brain Damage and be Crippled or Dead and because of how terrible he feels about Micheal Watson he didn't want his son to have to carry around the Regret and Guilt like he has had to do with Micheal Watson,He's Eccentric but we must never forget that it's the nature of man to confuse Genius with Insanity
Remember watching Eubank v Watson, what a classic battle. Was always a big Eubank fan but it was tragic what happened to Watson and what care and medical support he got was appalling. The referee and the corner of Blackwell should have been banned from boxing for life after letting him take so much punishment. Wtf were they thinking?

Fantastic video. I know people slag them but Sr is odd but a real one, stayed true to his nature in face of criticism and stepped in to save another fighter from his son knowing what can happen. My pal fought Jr live on channel 4 iirc, he got beat, lots of locals were pissed but my pal said eubank sr was absolutely sound. Talked away to him after the fight and all.
I watched the JR fight. And it was terrorising we couldn’t believe why the red wasn’t stopping the fight. When we heard Sr say you’re goi g to have to go back out there and keep hitting him it was like a pit in the stomach. It was no surprise when he collapsed at the end, everyone could see it was going to happen. That man should never referee again
Chris Eubank was a great champion in the ring and outside the ring after the Michael Watson fight he was never the same man but he has a good heart and he has always been there for Michael 🙏 god bless them both
Disgusting work the boxing commission not to have oxygen an ambulance ready. An that ref in Jr fight letting that boxer take so much upper cuts unbelievable
Christopher Livingston Eubank is one of my favourite and one of the best boxers ever. It took people a long time to appreciate him because here in the UK Nigel Benn was champion and hero Chris was hated by most because of his image his front his arrogance. But as he once said himself " its not bragging if you can back it up." He was a product of poverty in inner city London and the bronx new York he could handle himself. It wasn't until his defeat to Steve Collins and retirement he stopped the cocky front. Although still to this day i dont know how a defending champion knocks Collins down for a count twice and looses on points but hey thats that. The tragedy with Michael Watson was the first time Eubank ever showed his emotions what a shame it took tragedy defeat and retirement for people to see just what a warrior and what a good person he was.
Eubank v blackwell - Blackwells corner, reff, bbb - all failed a brave boxer and ended his career - Thank goodness for eubank sr for saving the man's life = even though it meant his son would have to work harder to end the fight.
It was the medical care afterwards for the 2 fighters that made the difference, one didn't receive oxygen, was taken to a wrong hospital whereas the other fighter was attended to immediately
Amazing video. Really upsets me that Blackwells corner didn’t stop the fight. They’re supposed to protect their fighters. I know fans low to see “blood and guts” but remember these are peoples lives. Love to fight another day.
Reading Watson's book really makes you put life in perspective. Not sure if you noticed but that's Spencer Oliver at the finish line with Eubank and Watson there, he also nearly died after a brain injury in the ring. The video doesn't really make it clear but after the knockdown in the 11th Watson was completely gone. Poor refereeing and even worse corner work. He had to be forced to sit down, stand up and then pushed and pulled to ring centre. He could barely walk. I remember watching both fights on TV live. Even watching the replay back now you can see he's losing brain function and motor skills.
Great comment. I agree with you totally. I could see that Watson was in a bad way as soon as he got up from that uppercut. If we could see it watching it live on television, why couldn't the people who were actually standing next to him?? It's scandalous that it took what happened to Michael to overhaul the medical procedures ringside. I watched both fights live on television and I couldn't believe the end of the 2nd fight. Awful. I can't watch it now.
CE was smart to tell Jr to go to the body. It’s good that Jr wanted to forge his own path, out of his dads shadow, but the other guy wasn’t going to quit, he was iron & only out of there if killed or the fight stopped. CE knew what would happen & it did anyway, even though he told his son, who still attacked the head anyway! Sometimes, we have to listen to the voice of experience, as were always learning!
Nick B was far too brave and wasnt a quitter and couldve easily died in the ring but huge respect to senior for trying to get it stopped. Senior deserves a knighthood for all he has done to keep boxing clean from drugs, and for fighting for much better medical care, refereeing and fighting for boxers getting better purses and speaking out insupport of them especially with dodgy promoters who care for their fat wallets before boxers health and being cheated by Don King types like poor Mike Tyson.

Chris Eubank is a Legend... Simples
Hes more than a legend
Chris, Micheal and Nigel were amazing to me as a young man. It was a great time for British boxing, i remember shouting at the top of my lungs with the telly volume on full blast, watching Chris and Nigel fight. A great time to be alive.
Michael collins was better. Beat Eubank multiple times. Never got the respect he deserved.
@CanwegetSubscriberswithn-cu2it are you on about Steve Collins? Eubank and Benn weren't the same fighter's after seriously injuring Watson and McClennan in the ring
Best era ever for boxing 👏 just disgusting how proper medics wasn't at these fights
This is amazing. Great work putting this together!!
Fantastic storytelling in this video. Great work!
I was waiting for this one. One of my favorite boxers to watch! Thanks for the upload!
Well done, you told this story with grace and passion
100% respect for Chris Eubanks SR for for seeing long term injury.
Very hard to watch knowing the outcome, but excellently done! And your right Chris Sr was never the same after that fight.
This was a heartwarming story. The same thing happened to Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini. When he killed a Korean boxer he lost his instinct. Chris Eubank seems like a man who rose above his circumstances and refined himself. Good on him!!!
Michael Watson was such a talent 😢
Still fighting on God Bless 🙏💪
I absolutely love EVERY video (masterpiece) you've put out I have watched rewatched all of them and I just wanted to say I truly do appreciate all the hard work and time you put into everyone one of these please continue with the frequent uploads
Damn this one puts you in the feels
Holy crap Nick is one tough guy though. He kept moving forward and applying pressure even with those uppercuts. Hats off man, hats off. So sad.
Such a beautiful video
Thank you 🙏
oh my god i almost cried with this one.what a story...what a father.
Remember watching Eubank v Watson, what a classic battle. Was always a big Eubank fan but it was tragic what happened to Watson and what care and medical support he got was appalling. The referee and the corner of Blackwell should have been banned from boxing for life after letting him take so much punishment. Wtf were they thinking?
there's not enough people asking these questions on youtube....same with 9/11 how could usa let it happen in the first place and trained the pilots that did it!! you go on any 9/11 channel and you wont see that question...the comments are all the same
@@TheBobbymcd is it a conspiracy?
Big up Chris Eubank senior for his wise words to his son that quite possibly did save Blackwell's life what a legend and lovely person and big up his son for listening to his dad 👍
Chris Eubank is one of the best....His son has Roy Jones Jr reflexes. So much respect for the Eubanks
His son sucks
Eubank Sr. is a legend, and his son isn't even dollar store Roy Jones. If he were, he wouldn't have gotten taken out by Beefy.
@@Josephus_da_Killer I just said his reflexes were on par with RJJ, I never said he was as good. For me personally RJJ is top 10 of all time, sadly Eubank Sr is probably top 30 of all time on my list
@@Cereal_Killer007Idk anyone that had RJJ reflexes in the manner he did.
@@el34glo59 Watch some Eubank jr highlights, pretty impressive stuff
Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoyed this
Those last words hit me hard. Excellent video.
Eubank Jr is a monster in that ring
Dmon enraged
Wow, i didn’t know that happened with Eubank Jr as well
This put a tear in my eye man
Just found this gem of a man and am an instant fan. He's got class!
Fantastic video, thank you .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Such a sad, sad story 😔
Beautiful life lesson all rapped up in a bow at the end. Nothing in this earth will ever overcome the power of wisdom.
I was at school with Michael. We watched this return fight and we're screaming for his corner to stop the fight. Hard to watch, when you have emotional investment in the game. These fighters are warriors; and anyone who doesn't understand this, has no right to pass judgement!
I grew up with Michael Watson at Crown and Manor Boys Club Hoxton , lived across the road from me , a great fighter who was so unlucky , Eubank hated by all on our manor !
@@michaeljay3846 My best friend had a fair fight and was then stabbed in the heart 3 times for winning. That is a reason for hate. Not because the man you support lost in a boxing ring.
1st time watching one of this channels videos, immediately subscribed! What an era this was to be a British boxing fan.. despite the tragedies, Most of these contests between Legendary Fighters like EUBANK, BENN , etc were on ITV or other free channels & cost nothing for our viewing pleasure!..WHAT A BARGAIN
Powerful piece!
The man is a legend. Loved Eubank in the ring. People loved to hate him. What a man.
Brilliant video chris eubank senior proper legend and a proper gentleman!!! Great fighter and the ones against Nigel benn were legendary!! And what a great ambassador to boxing 🥊 wish him all the best luck 🙏👍
The best boxing channel man ❤😅amazing keep them coming
Speaks so eloquently, Bering so exquisite, Style so Flamboyant. I want to be like Chris!
Rhythm Boxing, you did it again. 😭😭 Keep em coming. ✊
Brilliant video, genuinely brought a tear to my eye. Well done my friend 👏
I had always liked Chris Eubanks uniqueness, mad respect for his boxing ability but more so his compassion. God bless.
Very moving story. Eubank has always been an enigma.
An incredible story well told.
The last thing you said is the most important to us all!
Great video. Amazing that such similar and tragic incidents can occur involving first a father and then years later the son.
This was fantastic !!
Jeez, I didn't know about this happening with Jr too. Surely no sport is worth this 😔
Chris Eubank was a great champion in the ring and outside the ring after the Michael Watson fight he was never the same man but he has a good heart and he has always been there for Michael 🙏 god bless them both
Blackwell tuck those punches like a beast. The amount of hits this champ tuck. Bless Chris snr for telling son what he did.
What an incredible video, amazing story.
Disgusting work the boxing commission not to have oxygen an ambulance ready. An that ref in Jr fight letting that boxer take so much upper cuts unbelievable
"His posh cockney accent"
😂😂😂😂 that's an oxymoron if ever I've seen one
Eubank was my favourite boxer back in the day and his friendship with Micheal Watson after that fateful night was heartwarming
This boxer is more than one of a kind . One boxing. Two in upper-cuts. Three in style (and one other i.e- very kind demeanour).
Beautiful story.
Just wow. What a great great father. Hats down sir
Great documentary
Eubank v blackwell - Blackwells corner, reff, bbb - all failed a brave boxer and ended his career - Thank goodness for eubank sr for saving the man's life = even though it meant his son would have to work harder to end the fight.
No oxygen or paramedic at the fight. unbelievable.
It was the medical care afterwards for the 2 fighters that made the difference, one didn't receive oxygen, was taken to a wrong hospital whereas the other fighter was attended to immediately
If he had kept taking the headshots, it would have been different
One of my favourite fighters. Unique character only adds to a very cool charm with the skill to back it
Amazing video. Really upsets me that Blackwells corner didn’t stop the fight. They’re supposed to protect their fighters. I know fans low to see “blood and guts” but remember these are peoples lives. Love to fight another day.
Great video!
Eubank is an absolute legend of a man and was an amazing fighter to watch!!! Nothing but respect for him by the bucket load!!!
Been waiting for this one!
@@mrkipling2201 But look at wilder who wanted to die in the ring against fury. Has much changed ?
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST COMBAT STORIES OF ALL TIME….IM NOT CRYING YOUR CRYING! 😭
boxing in the 90s was at it's very best, so many big stars, the UK scene was buzzing
Man. This proves, boxing or any combat sports REALLY is not for EVERYONE. Great video sir as always!
yep its not done for health !
This is so sad ,love to all these legends 😢,absolute legends,
Fantastic video respect 🙌
What a horrifyingly ironic tale......how can such a brutal sport be so beautiful?
I'm wondering why referee didn't stop the fight? It was obvious Blackwell could not continue.
Chris Eubank Snr. What an amazing human being. Total respect to you sir.
You're right. After Watson, Eubank was a shadow of his former self.
