Hi Ziet, great video and great explanation, thanks, been a longtime subscriber of yours! Quick question. I'm planning to DCA VOO/CSPX monthly with USD500 (which should get me 1 share at least). I'm on tiered instead of fixed on IBKR. I do prefer accumulating, and CSPX is thus the logical option, but given the higher commission fees for CSPX, do you suggest I buy two shares of CSPX every two months, thereby bypassing the higher commission fee instead of getting one share of CSPX a month? Or should I go for one share of VOO a month?
Hello Suraj, thank you so much for your nice words! I actually answered this exact question in a whole separate video before so feel free to check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/zwpJIP1aNFI/v-deo.html Long story short, if you trade anywhere lesser than 500 USD/trade (~ RM 2.5k) then VOO makes more sense. You can always switch to/add CSPX into your mix later on, no need to choose either one!
Thanks so much Ziet! I actually watched that exact video and based on that, I have the ability to trade USD1000 every two months, which would put me over the break even point with CSPX in your video. So shall I do that instead of just USD500 each month with VOO? @@ZietInvests
my problem now is that with the USD to MYR exchange rate of RM4.65 today, and the moment our currency get stronger again, our gain from S&P500 ETF might just diminish. It is a good strategy to buy ETF for the long run, but I will just put on hold till our currency get a bit stronger.
It will always be a problem for us 😝But look at it from another perspective, by waiting for "better" conversion rate and not investing in the US, we might actually lose more in terms of opportunity cost right?!
Hi Rachel, both platforms are actually not that comparable! IBKR on one end is in a different league compared to all other brokers: being super cheap, tons of financial markets, lots of stocks and ETF varieties etc, but the only main downside is they are not licensed by SC Malaysia so this could be a deal breaker for many M+ on the other hand is a spin off from local bursa brokerage juggernaut (Malacca Securities), so they definitely are not new to this business, and they are licensed in Malaysia only (not other country) so its super easy to deposit into them (online FPX). Some major flaw would be their lack of options in other financial markets (like UK), lesser features and their brokerage fee is not the cheapest. So ultimately it depends on what is your preference! Personally IBKR will always be my main choice because regulatory wise they are well regulated outside of Malaysia, but i could see M+ being an option for those that wants to have the comfort of local regulation 😄
Helo Ziet, absolutely wonderful video there. One question i have tho, I've created my M+ global account a few days ago before you released this video so i didn't manage to use your referral code in time. Yes to the ease of funding thru M'sia bank accounts but at the expense of higher fees. Meanwhile for IBKR, lower fees, but lacking SC Malaysia regulation. I personally use both interchangeably.

What is your main reasons for choosing US domiciled ETFs like VOO/SPLG instead of Ireland-domiciled S&P 500 ETFs that will only result in 15% withholding tax for dividends (instead of 30%)?
hi ziet! super great video. thank you so much. :) Just quick questions: 1. is it advisable for parents who are in their 50s-60s to invest in ETFs? I understand that ETFs are supposed to be held for a long period of time. If so, should we consider some bond ETFs as bonds are more conservative but i'm not sure how the diff of returns are compared to S&P. 2. What is the minimum holding period to make the investment worthwhile? 3. Does m-global able to transfer name/pass on ETFs to their beneficiary/kids if the holder passes away (w/o selling them), and any tax/fee implications? really hope to hear from you. thank you so much! :)
Hi Emica! 1. This really depends on their financial goals and risk tolerance - but imo ETFs (like the S&P500) for the next 5 to 10 years is still a good place to park our money! You're right about bond ETFs generally being more conservative compared to something like the S&P 500 - the returns on bond ETFs are usually lower, but comes with more stability, which might be suitable for your parents. 2. For the minimum holding period, it really varies. Generally, a longer holding period like 5-10 years is recommended for ETFs to ride out market fluctuations and benefit from potential growth. But this can differ based on the specific ETF and your investment goals. Heck even holding S&P 500 for the last 1 year, 3 year, 5 year is also highly profitable already - so it depends on which asset and exposure you're referring to! 3. Best to check directly with M-Global's customer support for the most accurate information coz they don't offer this on their app natively, but should be able to help you arrange for that through other route (since they are licensed here in Malaysia, should be highly possible) / I'm not sure about any estate tax for such transaction here in Malaysia - they would have a better answer!

Hi Ziet, could you elaborate on voo having higher returns due to having bigger assets under management? I suppose the assumption of being the cheapest would entail more buyers but it not the case. Is there any major reasons why Splg's trading volume is the least? Thank you
Hi kelly, the difference in returns between VOO and SPLG isn't just about their AUM ya. VOO might perform slightly better partly due to its lower expense ratio and higher trading volume, which can mean tighter bid-ask spreads. SPLG's lower trading volume could be due to various market factors, but remember, this doesn't directly impact its performance. Both ETFs track the S&P 500, so their overall goal is the same. Hope this clarifies!
Hi, since they are all US ETFs, as long as they have dividend yield, they will just distribute it to your M+Global account as USD cash, since US ETFs cannot reinvest them (unlike Ireland domiciled ETFs)
Hi, expense of 0.03% will be deducted from the return of the fund, at the fund level, so your capital gains are actually already net of that fee! (i.e. you no need to bother at all!)
Hi Samuel, IBKR has an extensive range of ETF tickers available, basically if you can think of one, they will have it! Can check out their app or website for a list of tradeable equities (it's a huge list)

You can profit from ETFs the same way with regular stock in capital appreciation and also dividend. As for VOO it pays a quarterly dividends and there is some ETFs or stocks that paid monthly dividends. Most investors buy ETFs like SPY,VOO,VTI usually to hold for a long time not for short term trade unless if you are in expert in Option or dividend capture strategy.
