April is off season. Not quaranteed sunny weather, sea water is still cold, the island is still sleeping. There is so much more in Rhodes town than the Old Town or Mandraki harbour to see. This video is very limited and not even accurate. You did not scratch even the basics. Hope you discovered more during your stay.
My husband & I were in Rhodes last fall for a week. Loved the Medieval city and beach clubs. We also rented a car and toured the island. Hope you enjoy it as must as we did. Thanks for sharing your travels with us.
Happened upon your video when researching Bellingham. You two are delightful!! We are world travelers. My husband loves beer, I love wine. Your video content is perfect for us. Bottoms up 🍺🍷!
Full time slow traveler here. Will be in Rhodes tomorrow (Sunday 28th) aboard Holland America Oosterdam. I started in Fort Lauderdale on this 25 day cruise. The cruise will end in Athens Greece on the 30th. I will then start my 3 month slow travel in Southern Europe and then 3 months in Serbia/ Bosnia/ Turkey. This cruise hit 19 ports of call, so I’ve got a taste of many places y’all have stayed. Love the videos. Looks like great weather tomorrow. Cheers!
Question: If you have entered various European ports , such as Athens , Rhodos ,Greece, etc has your Schengen time (90 days) not already started? Thus subtracted from the 3 months. Or do you have an EU passport? The last three countries are not Schengen, which I assume is why you are going to them.
What time are you guys recording this video as the streets looked very quiet. We have just returned from Europe last two weeks in April and it was quite busy in a lot of places considering it was still shoulder season
Most food is very affordable in Rhodes. When in the old town, try to sneak through an alley and visit the old town where there’s no tourists. People love see you coming there. Rhodes is a paradise.
Welcome Greece! Thanks for the walk about on Rhodes. Very informative. Great choice on the bucket hat Gilligan! Just needs a red shirt now! Water I would imagine is quite "refreshing" in April. Brian jumping in the water would be a great video and the look on his face! Enjoy your next week and look forward to the next video! Cheers!
Beautiful place. We are planning on going to Greece, we just have to figure out when. So many places to see...😊. We also agree that we prefer to avoid the crowds, and greatly appreciate the savings we get off season. It allows us to travel on a budget.
Wonderful tour and informative. Thanks.👍 Totally enjoyed the traditional Greek music 🎶 🤔 even more special at 1.5 speeds 😖😵💫🤣😉🍻 You two are great. Gyros Yeros Eyros I can never pronounce it correctly. But they are so yummy 😋 😊
Wife and I loved Rhodes. We visited by taking a catterman ferry from Marmaris, Turkey. Don’t take that ferry if you easily get seasick. The island is so beautiful and we really enjoyed it.
It's beautiful. We did take the ferry from Fethiye, and can see it being a issue for anyone with issues with Sea sickness 😔. Thanks so much for watching.
Great info. Nice to see Rhodes again; it's been 52 years since I was actually there. Or Boy Scout troop did spend an evening in Rhodes town on our last day, but mostly we were camped out in a pretty remote area. I spent much of the time with the kind of food poisoning you might get on a camp out, but Rhodes itself was a very cool place, both the remote ares and Rhodes town.

I traveled to the Greek Islands in May 3 yeats ago and the water was still cool. If I go there I want to be able to swim and lie on the beach. You can do sightseeing any time outside of summer.
Rhodes is a bucket list destination for my wife and I. I love the tour you’ve taken us on. I was thinking of a cruise from Athens, but after watching your UA-cams, maybe the ferry from Türkiye is a better option, like you two have done. Thanks for the content 👌🍻
Great video! We will be there in about a month. I have watched you guys for a few years now and have been inspired to start a UA-cam channel as well. Thanks for all the good information!!
Hi, you can get in the hop on/hop off bus up to the Acropolis too. There's a lot more to see up there than just the Acropolis...the scaffolding has been there for years, I think the greek plans to improve the area are very slow!
Hi guys, nice video! It goes to show that if you get away from the tourist routes, you can save money. I used to have an apartment in Halkidiki near Thessaloniki but have never been to Rhodes. However, my best friend opened the casino there and still visits numerous times a year as a consultant. I think the best beaches are in the north of the island but last summer they had forest fires nearby. I am looking forward to next weeks video.😊
Highly recommend the beaches around Lindos on the south eastern part of the island as well as the valley of butterflies. I was in the navy for about ten years and it was one of my favorite stops.
A little history I learned while there which I was definitely not looking for was that hotel you walked by "Hotel of Roses" or The Grand Hotel and Casino was where the declaration was signed for the state of Israel. Rhodes has several layers to it.
Thank you, Lorrain. We do our best with filming, editing, AND music selection. A typical video like this can take several days to put it all together, so it is nice to hear that you liked the music. We had a negative comment about it but several positive ones. We try to keep everyone happy but you know how that goes. 😂
great job with this video!! i was in rhodes for three weeks last year and this was a great overview. it was quite touristy there but seeing the old town was still worth a trip for sure. and omg those cobblestones were hurting my feet. i had just come off doing the camino in portugal and my feet were still recovering. lol
We even tried different shoes, but it didn't help! 😂 Very cool that you did the Camino! I (Brian) would like to do something like that someday. Carrie said that she would meet me at my final destination. 🙄 Thank you for watching and commenting!! Cheers!! ☕☕
Just came across your channel. What a lovely calm friendly couple. Enjoyed your tour of Rhodes town.I was there last year and absolutely loved it. I’m going to go back and follow your advice of going off the beaten track. Totally agree with the cobbled street advice we saw a good few people struggling in sandals and flip flops. There’s an amazing Greek bakery there on a corner that we were told about so we searched it out but can’t remember the name so will search my photos. The best little place for a breakfast pastry with all different fillings.
We are having an amazing time here in Rhodes. We leave late next week for Crete and are more excited than ever to experience more of Greece. We rented a car yesterday to see the rest of Rhoes and what an experience!! We will be doing the same when we arrive in Crete. Thank you for watching and commenting. We very much appreciate the support. ❤
As far as weather goes, I was there in February and it rained off and on for 3 weeks straight, but still enjoyed it. There were very very few tourists when I was there and when I drove around the island it was like driving out in New Mexico 40 years ago, I was the only person on the road. I wanted to pull over and take more pictures but everywhere I wanted to stop in the car I was worried the brakes in the car wouldnt hold on such inclines. I thought I would never see the Dama Dama unless I got out and trekked around a bit, but to my surprise about 8 of them walked right past the front of my car as did what appeared to be mountain goats who ran right up the side of a rocky mountain side. I asked a local about these goats and he said there were no mountain goats. Oh well.
Another great video. Thanks for including the dates in your work, helpful. You’ve probably already covered this but what kind of Visas have you obtained.

Beautiful video. Fun to see someplace we’ve been to. You definitely found less expensive food than we did. The lunch price you quoted was for 2. Was the 30 euros for 2 dinners or one?
Thank you! Yes, that was for two people. We enjoyed a wonderful 3-course meal for 30 euros. The trick is getting off the main tourist street ☺. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers!!
I wear Birkenstocks, and have since we started. Work great for me and I average 6 miles a day in them. We loved both Crete and Santorini - Santorini was my favorite ❤️
Hey enjoyed the lastest vide, in it you mentioned renting a car which you have probably done by now. Did you need an international driver's license? We're heading to Create in 5 months great timing for us having you doing these shows before we get there.
Love you guys and thoroughly enjoy your videos. Would love to meet you and buy you a beer at two thirsty whenever you hit the South Island in NZ one day. Enjoy Greece guys.
Maybe you’ve talked about this, but was wondering if you’ve reach “site” fatigue yet? You mentioned that the ruins were underwhelming. I’ve heard that from many nomads who have said you can only be amazed so many times from waterfalls, ruins, sites, etc. It’s kinda sad but somewhat expected. Have you experienced this? I’ve started to experience this. I just say I was “whelmed”. Neither over nor under 😜
Love that, "whelmed" is a great way to put it. I think we've reached that point that we've seen so much that if something is truly different than the rest is something we totally want to see and are willing to pay the price. But after time, a castle, ruins, churches all look so similar that we don't need to pay to see them.
As usual, you guys are so valuable for us slow travelers. When you guys finish up in Rhodes, answer this question..... Is it better to day trip Rhodes and stay in Turkey in order to save your Schengen days?
@@HH-fo9sg Yes. Point is if you like Turkey more, just visit Rhodes a couple of days and spend Schengen in a different type of area. Ie if places are similar stay non schengen.
What time are you guys recording this video as the streets looked very quiet. We have just returned from Europe last two weeks in April and it was quite busy in a lot of places considering it was still shoulder season
@@BrianandCarrie looks lovely I might put this one on the list. The summer season in Europe does get a bit crazy with the cruise ships as well as the regular tourists we experienced it about 5 years ago and not enjoyable at all.
You would do well to spend some time learning about the history of the places you visit and learn about the culture, art and architecture. Ever hear of the Knights Hospitaller aka the Knights of St-John? How about the colossus of Rhodes? The acropolis was not under “construction”. You are in a UNESCO world heritage site, in one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. Hey but why bother, go get a beer.
We do learn about the culture and history 😊. The "under construction" was a joke. 😂 But, it was covered in scaffolding so underwhelming. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Cheers!! 🍻
We will be there on the 16th. I want a black bucket hat. Good to know to Get off the beaten path. Get authentic! #bracelets. check the cruise ship arrivals. Always keep 50 cents on ya. Wow. Your videos of castle are awesome. So much similar Countryside and castles in Portugal
For car rentals, is an IDP required, or just your U.S. license? Re. wine, in Athens we stuck to the 2 buck Chuck paradigm, plenty of good wines for less than 2 euro. 👍
The dollar and the euro are currently about 7 cents difference. 90% of our viewers do not use the Euro and everyone understands the value of the dollar.
The Acropolis was covered in scaffolding and the walk up was a bit strange. We did feel like we were walking through people's back yards. We just wouldn't recommend taking the time to go to this particular attraction.
I don’t think many of your videos are realistic because you often don’t visit many site seeing locations. Why go to a place like Rhodes and not pay to visit the castles or museums? It’s a long way to travel and then skimp out on spending money on these amazing places. Don’t get me wrong, some places are expensive and overrated, but many are worth every penny. This is the whole point of going there.
This is our lifestyle; we are not on vacation. If we visit every castle and museum we come across we would be broke. That said, we have another video coming from Rhodes this week. Thank you for adding your opinion to the channel. Cheers!!🍻
Oh, I'm not suggesting otherwise. I'm merely suggesting that if you're going to put out general recommendations, then you should provide realistic costs associated with the cost of site seeing. I'm also not suggesting you should see everything, just show the realistic cost in your videos based on your budget to see sites. It's not realistic to visit a place and not go inside. It gives the false impression that a place is less expensive than it really is. Like I said, why travel that far and not spend 20 euros to see a place? That's realistic. Call them entertainment and optional. Also, was it worth the price? Help out a brother here.
You are absolutely suggesting otherwise! While it's true that not everyone may have the desire or need to see every site, offering the option to share costs for those who do can greatly enhance the overall experience for everyone involved. By sharing all the information, we enable travelers with varied interests and preferences to fully explore the destination without feeling constrained by individual budgets. In our own travels, we've encountered countless breathtaking places, and we wholeheartedly believe in the power of choice when it comes to crafting our unique experiences. Cheers!
Not really, live your lifestyle. However, you are putting out general and specific information to the benefit of your audience. Every travel destination has their top 10 sites and costs. Why not include that as representative of the destination and let us know if they are worth the cost? You include the cost of accommodation, which is also "lifestyle" but not the tourist sites which means your videos don't really provide an accurate representation of what people will spend. Yea, they vary, but so does everything else. Just seems strange to go that far and spend nothing on the must see sites.
We spend plenty 😂. If you are interested in what we spend each month, we share that in our monthly cost of living videos. Otherwise, you may find any of the other free UA-cam channels out there fit your needs better. Cheers!!
Nice video but not that informative! Too much lengthy chit chat & not enough detail about the cost of things. There are also many ways to get around the city if you don't want, or can't, walk. Try the jump on & off bus tour which takes you round all the best sites, hire a bike or an electric bike or even try out a segway tour. Best tavernas for value, ethnicity & excellent food are off the beaten track & round the back streets. Boat trips available from the harbour to many nearby beaches or take one up the coast for a day to Lindos or Faliraki. Do try to learn a little Greek language. Even if it's only please & thank you!🇬🇷

@@BrianandCarrie looks lovely I might put this one on the list. The summer season in Europe does get a bit crazy with the cruise ships as well as the regular tourists we experienced it about 5 years ago and not enjoyable at all.
Hi there, we are staying in Rhodos now. Can you give us the name of the restaurant you guys are advising on 16:42? Cant read greek letters:)
Hi! Unfortunately we don't recall the name, its been y months since we've been there. Enjoy your time 😊
You would do well to spend some time learning about the history of the places you visit and learn about the culture, art and architecture.
We are loving our time here!! So much to see and do! 😊 Thank you for watching and safe travels!!
8.50 for the castle do you get a toilet break with that?😊
For car rentals, is an IDP required, or just your U.S. license? Re. wine, in Athens we stuck to the 2 buck Chuck paradigm, plenty of good wines for less than 2 euro. 👍
With a US passport you just your US drivers licence. We haven't found any wines at the 2 euro range yet, but that would be great 😃
Enjoying your videos, do they sell proper English beer, not gassy lager??
Not really! Just the gassy lagers. ;(
Brilligan😊
What website do you use to find which cruise ships are in Rhodes each day?
Here is a link! Thank you for watching!!
www.cruisemapper.com/ports/rhodes-island-port-139
Hi. You keep saying dollars but lm not sure if you mean euros. The 3 course meal price of $30 or is €. Very confusing.
The dollar and the euro are currently about 7 cents difference. 90% of our viewers do not use the Euro and everyone understands the value of the dollar.
Oh OK. As not a user if either l didn't realise they were almost the same value.
You need decent broad brim hats
Yes, we do!!! 😊
What was underwhelming about Acropolis there? Was it the construction or small? I thought about it but if Athens is better maybe I fight the crowds.
The Acropolis was covered in scaffolding and the walk up was a bit strange. We did feel like we were walking through people's back yards. We just wouldn't recommend taking the time to go to this particular attraction.
Everything will open after Easter .
Thank you for the update!! We are really enjoying Rhodes. We rented a car yesterday and explored the island. That video will be out on Saturday!! 😀
Great, I’ll look out for it 👀
22C is not cold
It depends on who you ask.
Cheers!!
Drink beer sod it
Nice video but not that informative!
Even if it's only please & thank you!🇬🇷
We mentioned costs and some of what you say in the video Diane, but we do appreciate you commenting and adding your opinions to the conversation. 😀
Please remove or change the music its annoying.
Interesting. We have had a few comments already about how much it was liked. It is Greek music. 🙂 Thank you for your opinion.
Cheers!!🍻
