I really appreciate your passion for shoe care !
That suit ensemble is on point.
Damn, these boots are hella nice.
Another great video, thank-you Kirby.
Nice cuff links. Thanks for all you do.
My Pate De Luxe is several years old and the turpentine had evaporated a lot and the wax hardened, TATA! It has become the mirror gloss now!
Kirby, love your blog and your project. I’m sure you’re familiar with Venitan cream I find it is the single best first layer for Cordovan. You can then follow up with the high shine Safir, but you cannot beat THE product that is recommended by the manufacturer of the Horse🐎
Horween is great, but I don’t think they manufacture horses yet.
Hello Kirby, in this video you use the mirror gloss polish on cordovan, but in the FAQ of the product it is stated:
"You are unable to use the mirror gloss on Shell Cordovan due to the turpentine in the polish.
- Hanger Project @/22/2018"
Could you explain the discrepancy? Is Mirror Gloss safe for cordovan?
A clarification would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for the great vids!
Wow, amazing that Kirby never replied to this.
@@somerandomperson8282 he made a video explaining this:

Hi Kirby. Could you do a video on gentleman's hats (e.g. fedora, panama, etc) & what to wear when (in the city, in the country, during the day, in the evening & age appropriateness).
I own and wear dress shoes and loafers, and I wear cowboy boots. This may be a really dumb question, but could you enlighten me on when exactly the well-dressed gentleman wears a pair of boots like these? I am intrigued, but am at a loss for where exactly they would fit into my wardrobe. Would I wear them when weather considerations (rain, snow, cold) dictate these as being a practical alternative to wear with a suit or jacket/dress trousers to work? Or are they always for casual wear?
One day Kirby will learn how to pronounce Medaille D'Or.
What is that leather mat you use to shine your shoes on, I honestly want one.
What a fantastic products.. awesome thanks
Is there a reason you used the neutral hard wax instead of the brown one?
Hi Kirby, I have a question. Should I use for cordovan leather shoes treated with solvent free cream polish an extra brush to buff them or can I use the brush which I use for all other shoes of similar color which are treated with ordinary cream polish? Thanks for you answer and for your great videos! Greetings from Germany.
Kirby, if I already have “wrong” waxes built up on my Cordovans that I’m not happy with, do I need to strip those down, or just start following your guide from here on out?
How would you remove the mirror gloss on cordovan to eventually redp the shine without hurting it. (Reno mat?)
Hi Kirby. Big fan of the content which has got me really into British dress shoes. Will you be doing any content featuring Crockett and jones shows? Also I was wondering if you could do a video on mixing cream and wax polishes to produce interesting patinas
If I used that color Cordovan crème on my black cordovan shoes, would it alter it? Is black Cordovan crème available?
What Cordovan polish is good for Chippewa service boots
could you tell us a few shops to buy classic, casual clothes. Not suits or blazers, but t-shirts chinos etc.
What shoe tree are you using for these boots?
Is there any special consideration that needs to be taken when caring for the leather shoe shine carpet?
Stephen Full Not really...
What do you do when putting a Mirror Shine on a pair of shoes with no delineated toe cap?
Where do you stop, before the crease or do you blend to the shoe's body?
Bob Armstrong Yes - you have to take. It where the toe cap flexes. You want to stay in front of that.
What style of boot is this ?
I demand side zippers on all boots!
Hello Kirby, how would cordovan stand up bad weather compared to a calf skin? I.e walking in snow and rain.
Thank you
Adam Clark
Adam Clark Well, I hope you don't mind if I answer this. I am afraid you need to keep your shell cordavan away from water. Cordavan immediately blister when they touch a single drop of water.
@@lancelan1079 I dont mind at all. Thanks for the help!
Adam, you might want to look more into this but from my understanding you can wear your shell cordovan under the rain. I’ve seen a couple of videos and their users discussing how they’re the only shoes they will wear under the rain due to them having a “tight pore” and preventing your feet from getting wet unlike calfskin leather shoes where the rain penetrates the “open pores” and gets your feet wet.
Hi Kirby, should Reno Mat be used on cordovan?
Yes. For sure.
@@kirbyallison wait, so you don't wax the rest of the boot?
whats the brand of this boots?
Carmina
Shell should never be mirror shined. Frankly, polish should be avoided entirely. Stick to neutral neatsfoot oil to prevent drying, and that's about it. Can't speak to the effectiveness of the deer bone (I'm not nearly that fancy), but the polish (wax or otherwise) tarnishes the otherwise very unique natural glossy sheen of the shell, and makes it roughly indistinguishable from calfskin. If you prefer the mirror shine, stick to calf. It's cheaper anyways. Shell serves a more "classy casual" purpose than more traditional calfskin, so mirror shining it kind of defeats the purpose. That's not to say you can't wear shell with a suit or anything like that, but there's a reason why the preferred style of shell shoes amongst the enthusiasts are plain toe bluchers, long wing bluchers, and boots.
People stick their mirror shined shoes underneath occupied stalls in restrooms
pls stop saying medaille “DIOR“. it‘s “D‘OR“. you don’t have to be french for that.
Shut your face
Lose the annoying music from the background in the next one please. Sounds like a random battle in Final Fantasy is about to kick off!
For me it works wonderfully, I'm 4 and a half minutes in and didn't notice it let alone find it annoying

Black cordovan cream is available from Saphir.
