Although it doesn't appear like the most famous cartoon family on television is full of geniuses, one fan idea suggests otherwise. One family sticks out from the others in a town where anything may happen: the Simpsons. Not because of their constant misbehaviour or shenanigans, but rather for an unexpected reason...Since The Simpsons have been a television institution for more than thirty years, almost everyone who has watched television is familiar with their distinctive traits and personalities. Marge is the nurturing mother and sane voice. Homer is the relatively uncomplicated yet endearing family provider. Lisa is the A-plus pupil. The troublemaker and trickster is Bart. Maggie is the perpetual infant, to sum up.
The Simpsons covers the daily exploits of the titular family, as well as those of their closest friends and a few adversaries, in the fictional town of Springfield. Homer has distinguished himself as not being the most educated man in Springfield, but he has very good luck, thus most of the issues that the Simpsons run into are the result of his poor choices and less-than-stellar moments. The varying cognitive levels displayed by each member of the Simpson family have led some fans to speculate that the family members are actually geniuses hiding in plain sight.
According to the notion, only Lisa embraces her brilliance while the other members of the family deliberately suppress it in order to lead happy lives. Homer very literally chooses to be stupid but happy rather than brilliant and unhappy by placing the crayon back in his brain after it was discovered that the cause of his repressed intelligence was a crayon stuck inside his head. Marge was formerly an outstanding student who turned away from academia to become a housewife.
And finally, in yet another Simpsons episode, we learn that Bart was once a smart child whose grades suddenly started to slip. Homer's crayon mishap refutes the episode's claim that the male Simpsons have a stupidity gene. Instead, Bart opted to go for happiness rather than genius after observing how pleasant his dad's life was despite his lack of knowledge. As a result, Bart forgoes schooling in favour of planning grandiose pranks.
