  • This week I talk pick up on something I spoke about in my last running vlog - a shoulder injury. However it turns out that it's not quite what I thought it was...
Thanks so much for watching, subscribing, liking, commenting and sharing.
I'm Andy Clayton and in 2018 I did Couch To 5K and instantly discovered a love for running that I never knew existed. Prior to that, I'd always though that running looked like hard work and no fun at all. How wrong I was! Since discovering that there is a huge amount of enjoyment to be had when running I'm on a one man crusade to tell everyone that you can do it too! Were you told by your school physical "education" "teachers" that you were no good? Or did they just ignore you and talk to the sporty kids? That's what happened to me, and so I thought I was useless. I didn't think I'd ever be any good at anything even remotely sporty. But you really CAN do it! Couch To 5K is just the start, and once you crack that challenge there's lots more out there for you to enjoy.
Join me on my journey as I find out new things about running, enjoy trying different challenges that anyone can have a go at and also, occasionally, throw in a bit of utter silliness just for good measure.
There's a thriving community on this channel who regularly post very helpful tips and ideas in the comments. Join in! You won't regret it! 😀

Thanks for the update, Andy! Hopefully your shoulder situation will be resolved soon enough. It sounds like you have some good resources available, but waiting and not knowing exactly what it is or what it needs has to be difficult. Thinking about training and goal races and heart rate zones etc would be tough with that uncertainty. Great job fitting in a bit of easy running when you can. I'm sure that it makes a difference.

Thanks @Large Eddie It's a challenge, but I'm pleased to still be getting out there even if it's at a slow, steady pace rather than anything amazing. Getting out of the door and moving in a vaguely foward direction is good enough for the time being 😊

Shame to hear about the added uncertainty with the shoulder situation Andy. I hope the specialist can sort you out mate 🤞 take it easy buddy! Hopefully you will be back to full health soon! 😎🤘

Thanks Ben. It's an odd one, for sure. Luckily running is fine and doesn't seem to agrivate it so although I may be slow, at least I can still get out there and plod my way around a bit! 😂

Sorry to hear about the shoulder Andy. Lack of sleep permeates into everything, one would think they should be able to offer some sort of approach. Our local specialist centre is Wrightington, they are pioneering all sorts of stuff, shoulders too 😊. I'm sure it's going on in other regional centres of excellence.
I recently bought a pair of bone conducting headphones. They are very niche, in almost every circumstance you are better off using something else, but if you like listening to speech rather than music, they really ok. Now that sounds like damming with faint praise, but there are areas on my route where I'm competing with cyclists, motorists and pedestrians especially now the weather is getting warmer. This means I can still listen to the Infinite Monkey Cage, run along some of the more popular bits of the coast and have a good idea of where things are coming at me from. I'm glad I didn't pay too much for them, but they are handy to have in my expanding running accessory kit 😉

Wow. That's a really great tip about the heqadphones - thanks for that. I get where you're coming from, sound quality wise, but for podcasts it could be ideal. I generally listen to a podcast when running so it's worth checking out for sure. Thanks so much! As for the shoulder, my GP's pain relief strategy is co-codomal or ibuprofen + paracetamol. Whether the advice will get more 21st century when I get to see a specialist down the line remains to be seen...!

I have some cheap BlueTooth headphones I paid $10 for. They work fine, but they do have a wire that goes around the head, unlike the AirPods. I use the wired ones when I am uncertain of their charge status and I am planning a long run. Good luck with shoulder.

Thanks for the tip, Carl. It's always worth having a look around for alternatives, especially when out running things can get damaged or lost or sweated on! 😂

I am amazed doctors don’t recommend gently strengthening around shoulders with plank straight arm reverse raises incline push up - nothing overhead or anything that hurts - while you sort out your abnormality. 😉 Gotta keep moving safely to avoid frozen shoulder. Love your videos, from 🇨🇦

Thanks Heather. I need to do something. There's a long delay getting to see a specialist so in the meantime I have to sort myself out. Thanks for the tips - I'll do some investigations!!

I wear cheap wired headphones and have done for a long time. I have no problem with them and recently started running again after a few years off though still wore them in the hospital. Needless to say I am at the getting overtaken by walkers stage but that’s ok and also not a joke.

Good for you @misfit So pleased you're out there again and who cares how fast/slow you go - you're getting out there, that's the important thing. 👏🏻😊🏃‍♀️
