    The kit lenses for A6000 are pretty good, small light and stabilized. One lens I love is Sigma 30mm f1.4 which is cheap, sharp and fast.

    Dont forget that a dedicated Flash really does take your creativity to the next level, being able to bounce flash at 100 ISO in dim rooms or outdoors and having perfectly natural Colours and low noise, beginners dont realise the secret to photography is keeping the ISO as low as possible whilst keeping the shutter speed high enough for the scene and lens focal distance, then using aperture creatively to keep it at a perfect depth of field.

    I agree with your choices of lenses. Great lens is important for all the Sony A series with the same E mount.
    I’m not a video shooter that’s why I prefer the Sony 18-135mm without the power zoom useful for video.
    But in my view, the 18-135mm got a bit better optical quality lens is shorter and lighter then the 18-105mm. Plus the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for travel is just perfect!

    Hey Kyle, been back watching your videos for a6000. I just bought mine recently with sigma 30 mm 1.4 (I dissed the kit lens sorry) and watched some YT videos about it.
    When I watched your video about a6000's significance in 2020, it cleared away my doubts about my purchase! Perhaps a good camera is still good camera no matter how old it is.
    Keep it up!

    I´ve got the Zeiss 16-70mm F4 for APSC which is very versatile, small and lightweight, it´s better in the edges than the kit lenses. I use this most of the time when I do street photography, family pictures, some architecture, and social events. However, this lens is not cheap and I bought it second hand. I have the Samyang 12mm F2.0 for street views at night, for architecture and inside photography under low light conditions. The ultra wide angle allows you to get the true impression of room and space in streets and inside of buildings, you get cover wall to wall. I also use it for landscapes. This lens gives you a lot for the bucks. For wildlife photography I have the "bad boy", a 70-300 G-master. This is an amazing piece of glass, very heavy and bulky but with great quality and stabilized. I also do full frame portraits with this from a distance like 5 meters, or more away to get people in their natural habitat with their natural facial expression and you get a nice bokeh as well. I use it in landscape photography to get things zoomed in from afar. What I don´t have is something with moderate fixed focal length for portraits like your 35 mm F1.8 and I also want to get more into macro photography as well.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 років тому

      Macro tubes are great for macro, as well as the Sony 30mm macro. I know someone who gets fantastic results with that lens for macro (and it’s reasonably priced). I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Samyang! Also jealous of you having that G master! I think my next lens, will be the Sigma 56mm f1.4. I’ve been very impressed with the song 50mm f1.8 (borrowed it) so can imagine the sigma is just a bit better and worth it. Thanks for discussing your gear! ✌🏻

    The 18-105 is very nice. Even in a relatively low light environment it did well enough for me. And the clear image zoom worked when using the zoom ring, and that gave me much better control too.

    My current lens collection is 16-50mm kit zoom lens, 35mm F1.8 prime lens and 10-18mm wide zoom lens, all Sony lens. I have tried and didn't like Sony 16 mm F2.8 and 20mm F2.8 lens together with wide-angle and fisheye adapters. I also tried and didn't like Rokinon 12mm lens. I read all good things about Sigma 16mm lens but I didn't like its size. I ended up with 10-18mm lens despite its price. I think no better choice. I hate Sony 50-210mm zoom lens which came with my previous NEX5T camera and recently get rid of. Between Sony 18-200mm and Sony 18-105mm G, I nearly bought 18-105mm G lens lately but waited for the new Sony 18-135 mm lens. Now I placed an order for Sony 18-135 mm lens and hope that I will like it. I am not a professional but this is my opinion and choice based on my hands on and gut feeling.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 років тому

      Nice! Sometimes it is trial and error. Use whatever you feel the most comfortable with. Once a lens, camera, whatever it is makes you feel hindered from creating, it’s time to make the switch.

    I have a question: can I put lens on the A6000 but Using a Different Brand of lens that is not Sony?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  3 роки тому

      Of course, as long as said brand has labeled it an E Mount lens. For the a6000 you’d also want to make sure it’s an “APSC” lens.
      Sigma, Viltrox, Pergear, Rokinon, Neweer, ect all make lenses for the Sony a6000 lineup of cameras.

  • @swing8
    @swing8 6 років тому +2

    I did not buy the kit lens because I knew I was mainly buying the camera to shoot college football in small stadiums (from the stands). I bought the Sony E 18-135, which does 'most' of what I need. I will get the 18-200mm next year or so. I would like a smaller lens for travel so I'm wondering if I should get the 16-50mm kit lens now.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 років тому +1

      If you want a smaller lens and are used to having a range the kit lens is great. However you’re going to be used to the quality of those bigger lenses so it may be slightly disappointing. I like the kit lens a lot, just know there is a quality difference. I mainly use the Sony 35mm f1.8, I rarely switch!

      Yes, I've seen that. I still plan to opt for the 18-105 instead, though, because of it's constant f4, metal rather than plastic build, and it being better for video. Also, it looks cooler!

    I am thinking of getting the Sony 35mm 1.8 used. What are the things I should look for when I'm buying a used lens? any tips for buying used lens?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 роки тому +1

      I don’t think the price used would be significantly cheaper, but if it is, go for it. If you’re buying in person, I would test it in video and photo, listen for any loud auto focus noise. It should be rather silent. Inspect the back (opening) and the front element. Take a pic of something white and then review the image for any imperfections. Obviously specs of dust can be on the sensor but maybe there is something else.

    Thanks for sharing your collection. You really need to get some Zeiss wipes or similar to clean all the dog snot, hair, and smudges off your lenses! A decent UV filter will also help to protect the glass.

    I've got the 16-50 kit lens, and a 55-210 lens. So far I haven't had the chance to use the 55-210 much, but when I did, I kinda missed an old 75-300 lens I had (other story), I think I need that "extra" tele. So, I was very surprised to see you mention there's no loss of quality with the extra zoom which was the one function I instantly disabled on my a6000. So, Have you tried it with other lenses? I'm definetly going to try and let you know the results (next weekend maybe)

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 років тому +1

      I think it depends on what your photographing. It’s some digital wizardry going on when it does it. I’ve used it on the Sony 35mm and zoomed it in to 50mm which was fun. I’ve tried it on the 18-105 and it worked ok but if I remember correctly not as well. Let me know how it works out on the 55-210.

      hikyletaggart hey Kyle. Some of my favorite photos are with the 55-210 I was using it to take portrait shots because of its lower f stop at 55mm compared to the kit lens before I found out what primes are. Btw, I really like your videos you and techmafia got me to get the Sony 35mm instead of the sigma 30mm. We’ll see how it performs I haven’t had a chance to test it on my a6300 yet. I have found that indoors without natural light it’s hunts a lot and wasn’t sharp wide open which made me kinda sad.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 років тому +1

      Nope, but it is a power zoom lens (meaning it zooms by a switch) and you can turn it with your hand as well. It’s not quiet, but it doesn’t grind. I bet they’re just hearing the motor and aren’t used to that.

      Its made me want to get 1 but it dosent come cheep. Ive never owned a camera like this before so i guess the kit will be a good start for me to get used to it until i get some cash together for the 35mm

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 років тому +1

      Nice nice! With the 16-50 you may find a nice focal length you want to explore later on with a prime lens. 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm. So the kit is a great place to start.

    I am confused between a6000 & a6400. I do photography(events /low light wedding /landscape). Less work with videos. Which one should I buy between this two. If I buy a6000 then I can able to invest some money in lenses but it will be very tough in a6400. Currently I am a nikon D5300 user.

      Whoa sick setup! You can use CIZ with that lens and it becomes a 32mm. It wouldn’t be as good as the Sigma 30mm f1.4, but it works great! Look up “Turn your sigma 16mm f1.4 into a zoom lens”. Chris Brockhurst has done a video on that exact lens and CIZ!

    Boo on you for saying manual focus is a bad thing! My a6000 kit consists of manual focus primes & auto focus zooms. Sure MF is not ideal for all situations, but you can get some amazing glass for extremely cheap in comparison to an AF equivalent. You should explore the pure manual world a bit more before you write it off completely. Personally, I think it has helped me capture better photos. Even when using my AF lenses or someone else's smartphone!

    Hey Kyle, currently, my go-to travel lenses for my a6k are the Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the SEL35f18, but I've read good reviews with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and now I'm thinking of selling the Sony for that or the 18-105, do you think I should do it? If not, why? For the Sigma, OSS will not be a problem because I shoot mostly stills. Like you, I'm just a hobbyist, and like you, I hate that term :)

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 років тому

      I’m not sure if there is a HUGE diff from the sigma to Sony. In my opinion I love the Sony 35. Is counter your question with a question lol, why switch? What is making you unhappy about the Sony 35? The 18-105 G f4 is a great travel lens as it hits all the normal focal lengths and can be constant f4. However you lose a little low light performance. In the end, why not experiment! It’s fun to try new lenses and see what you like, so screw it, go for the change up!

    my sigma 16mm f.14 doesn't have that sound when recording video, after watching your video i tried to check it again, there's indeed a sound when the lens is focusing, but when i tried recording video with AF-C mode, there's just a little noise picked up by the mic, not like yours. i wonder why, and when i tried using external mic (ECM GZ1M) mic, the noise is gone, maybe you should invest in mic to remove the sound.

    I think you're pulling off more of the Fotasy lens than you're are supposed to. My fujian lens also comes apart in a similar way but it's not supposed to be operated like that. Are sure the cap doesn't just slide off of the part you are unscrewing?

      I agree with EleMenTfiNi, you are definitely unscrewing the front metal element that keeps the lens intact. You should pull the plastic cap only that is covering the metal front element (take a look at the lens pictures in amazon). I had the same lens and ended up breaking it doing exactly that.

    I have a really stupid question that hopefully you or the audience can answer. When I try zooming in almost all the way with my 18-105, it's blurry and I have to press the shutter halfway to get focus. Is that how zoom lenses work? I have this lens for a while now but never had the need to zoom all the way in.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  6 років тому +1

      I’d have to test it myself but I believe it has to re-focus. When you focus at 18mm it has certain objects in front and certain in back, it focuses the scene accordingly (also keep in mind f stop). When you zoom in, that point will be blurry or not based on the first focus. Not 100% certain on my thought here, will have to test myself!

      @kyletaggart  6 років тому +1

      Need a fast Lens. The best lens for that would be the 70-200 f 2.8. However that’s quite the expense. What kind of sports photography? If it’s just your kids basketball game or something you could do the 50mm f1.8 and use clear image zoom to punch in a little further.

    • @IvanIvanov-ej1jk
      @IvanIvanov-ej1jk 6 років тому +1

      I use the 55-210mm f4.5-6.3 sony for my brother's basketball games but it really isn't ideal. I have to bump exposure up quite a lot in post if I shoot faster shutter speeds which is pretty much needed. But the focus is good on the lens at least. Maybe try the 85mm 1.8 or a fast 50mm with the digital zoom as suggested. Sometimes I use the little flash in the camera which doesn't really seem to distract the players but it's not ideal and I feel bad for doing it :D

      That’s a good question. I would check the prices in the 55-210 on it’s own to see if the kit with both lenses is worth it. Looks like it’s a deal since the 55-210 is $230 on Amazon. I think the kit lens (16-50) is an awesome starter lens. If you think you’ll want some closer shots from a distance, then maybe consider the two lenses combo.

      Yes, I would recommend getting the 55-210 as part of a set. I'm new to photography too and have had a lot of fun with the telephoto. A reasonable way to experiment with wildlife, sports and even portraiture (50-90mm is great for feature compression).

    Hi great video, which lens would you recommend for street photography? Also I would suggest to talk a bit on the crop factor. i.e. 35mm lens on A6000 is essentially a 50mm. But great vid :)

      I would definitely say the 35mm 1.8 Sony. I will talk about the crop factor soon!

    What's your next lens? I own A6000 & sony 35mm f1.8 oss. I'm thinking to get new lens for portrait with creamy bokeh.

      I actually kinda want the same thing. The 50mm is “cheap, I think I may pick it up! Also, even though my gf already has it, I want my own Sigma 16mm. I feel bad borrowing hers all the time haha.

      Heck yeah! It’s a great wide angle lens. However look I to landscape reviews. I haven’t used it myself for that specific purpose. I’m sure it will shine though!

      One of the best things about the 18-105 is that the lens does not extend under zoom, meaning it is perfect for gimbal work

    Which lens would you recommend for bird photography for the Sony a6000?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  3 роки тому +1

      I always advise to start with the Sony 55-210mm. It's cheaper than others (especially used). If you want longer zooms they get super expensive. There's also sony 18-135 and 18-105. geni.us/Sony55to210APSC

      @@kyletaggart I’m a grandma who likes to photograph nature (plants, birds, sunsets and my grandchildren) and have been slow to learn anything but automatic modes on my a6000 which I have had for 5 years now and even though it’s discontinued, it’s what I have and I want to work with it. The kit lens is fine but limiting. I’m going to go with your recommendation because it seems well priced and in my budget. Thanks!
