    Building an Overland capable Toyota Hilux is the plan here guys. Pretty excited about this one as it is new territory for us here at JKoverland. We want to hear your thoughts on the Hilux Project.

    Good one. You have a solid base for a build there. You're doing exactly what I did (brand wise). I started with Mitsubishi Pajeros. My first was an NJ wagon, then moved into the NL wagon (I loved the NL. Sold it 10 years ago, but to this day, it's a 4WD that I regret selling), then 4 years ago, after hounding my eldest sister for a number of years, she finally decided to sell me their family vehicle, which they've had since new, and never once taken offroad. The closest to offroad it got up to was driving up a long gravel driveway to a vineyard. The vehicle is a 1996 Toyota 80 Series LandCruiser. And as per usual with these types of vehicles, it's a never ending build. 😁 Looking forward to your new build.

    Great choice. Can't wait to see what you do. We also have a Hilux and have done DIY build for touring too! It has ARB Sahara winch bumper which gives it a great look and approach angle. Underbody protection. We built our own canopy with gullwings and drawer system. Easi Awn rooftop tent. Safari snorkel and recently upgraded suspension to Old man Emu 2inch lift with 110kg constant at front. The back now has 650kg constant weight suspension to prevent any sag when fully loaded.

    It looks like you found yourself a great condition vehicle for the number of miles it's done. What a fantastic find! Those wheels look like the Toyota OEM alloys that came with certain models in Hiluxes of that era sold in Australia (where I'm from). For ideas, have a look at Hiluxes from Australia. The Hilux has been the number one selling vehicle in this country for a number of years now. So, there are a vast amount of Hiluxes modified for touring. If you wish to retain the OEM look of the Hilux but want to fit a front bar for a winch, look into a single hoop bullbar. ARB has a single hoop winch bar for your model Hilux called "Sahara Bar". And if you wish to retain your rear tub (ie. rather than removing it completely for a full canopy setup), Bushtech from South Africa has a top canopy version that sits on top of the OEM tub, then you can fit a RTT on top of that. Look at the "Roam Overland" UA-cam channel. He has a Hilux modified for touring. He recently just converted his OEM tub with a canopy setup into a full canopy setup. You might get some ideas for your Hilux from his channel. This is going to be a very exciting build. Good luck with it all.

    • @JKoverland
      @JKoverland  Рік тому +1

      We are super pleased with this one. After looking at a few it just appeared you know. These alloys only came on the invincible spec in the UK and Europe i believe. I will check out Roam overland I did see the video pop up about the new canopy set up so that's exciting! Like the sound of the single loop bumper too will be interesting to see what's available here in the UK. Thanks for the pointers 😃👍 J&K

    My wife and I so nearly went for a Hilux for our vehicle, the issue was we knew we wanted an enclosed camper rather than a roof top tent and realistically they are big money. Even on a second hand Hilux, which it needs to be to avoid adblue, you are getting into big money for something like Azalai or Trayon. Ultimately we found a bespoke pop top camper based on a Defender 130 for really good money, no way we could have built anything for even double what we paid for it, and as we are planning a long trip any money we spend on a vehicle is less money we have to travel with. Will we regret our choice as far as reliability goes. Who knows, possibly .🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    Nice reliable base to start with, depending on where you are planning on traveling will limit some of your choices, like tyre choice, traveling in Germany, Switzerland and Austria plus other European countries you need winter tyre’s, with minimum snow flake and mountain symbols ❄️🏔 and as foreign😂 registered vehicle you are more likely to be checked, fine is the same as a new set £££, also when fitting a front bar it must be a soft impact type for UK and Europe unless fitted before the legislation changed a few years back, no cow catches. I have a 2021 invincible X and this time it’s more important to keep the weight down as low as possible, grew up in Southern Africa and never needed a winch for normal traveling off road, if it’s a dedicated off-road vehicle then yes but as daily driver definitely not. Enjoy your build and keep it simple, don’t go all Australian with every accessory available 😂

      They’re amazing, but they come with an amazing price tag too, you’re looking at £9k plus extra for awning and other bits.
