Can we all appreciate that from 23:32 Granady was on one heart and then he came back and won it all. Mad respect for Granady and everyone who made it to the finals.
Respect to all of the final 4. Affi for not losing a life till the very end. Richie to contest the TMGL players till the very end. Massa for going for an insane shortcut in the very end. Granady for staying on 1 life till the very end and also clutching out a risky ending.
Wow Affi played so well. He seemed really shaky and inconsistent in the semi finals but he was so good in the finals. I think he just feels uncomfortable on the one map that cost him 2 lifes but otherwise he played so well and clutched many tight situations as well ☺ I'm from Switzerland too so I'm glad to see him doing well 🙌
@@Niche.S What? Affi had the second most wins. He got 1st in 6/23 rounds. 2nd in 4/23. So top2 in 10/23 rounds. 5 top 2s in the first 10 rounds 5 top 2s in the last 13 rounds. Consistently top2 when all players were alive and also when many were eliminated. Granady in comparison was 1st in 7/23 rounds and 2nd in 6/23 so top2 in 13/23 rounds. Massa in comparison was 1st in 3/23 rounds and 2nd in 2/23 so top2 in 5/23 rounds. It's not like Affi just survived by lowballing second last every round. Regardless it was an insane final. Granady pulled through on 1 heart for ages. ggs.
zerator built the maps, organized the tournament, found the sponsors and the prize pool is all the money he made from twitch subs leading up to the event. he's not earning anything (unless people resub after the tournament) for a whole lot of work. all he seems to want in return is to be on stage with etoiles and the players, and he earned that many times over.
Trackmania has such a wholesome community even seen on the pro stage, everybody was happy for the others success. With these increasing price pool tournaments it finally starts getting the attention the game deserves.
I've never watched or played any Trackmania (for any significant time, I think like 2h yeeears back and watched 4-5 videos over the years) but this had me captivated throughout the entire thing - I didn't even know there was an E-Sports for this game, let alone this interesting and with even a very respectable live audience.
@Gmonkeystar I think that's what we just watched : I watched last event in french and Wirtual was listed as the English stream while someone else was streaming in German
I thought this knockout format sounded cool on paper but even as a very causal Trackmania enjoyer, this format doesn’t feel right for grand finals. I agree with the other comments that racing for the best time is the best way to do finals. Maybe it could be a cool format for quarter/semifinals though.
such a bad format. 1 mistake and the rest of field just safe it, so boring. Anyone who tried to risk at all was punished and from a spectators view we are just darting around watching 8th and a bunch of crashes...feels like when f1 changed the rules to let verstappen win for 'entertainment'
@@greedyboi011I feel that the excitement is also heavily dependent on the map itself having dangers that they couldn’t safe through vs needing good lines which they could because that led to what you described, punishment for taking risks because… there’s no reason to try for first, so you’re only risking to not lose a life, usually leading you to lose one anyways over boring but consistent play. The finals shouldn’t be about pure consistency. It’s not like COTD, simply because it’s grand finals!! Like, where’s the excitement.
I think this format is all around bad and not really fit for any round. Map order is just way too important and who gets through is going to be RNG. If number 1 got like half a life back it could have potential but as is it's kinda ehhh
I feel like if they rewarded first place with a life it’d make it more interesting cause you just kinda get nothing for first plus if you’re down on lives makes you more likely to risk
While this is still entertaining, I don't like the format change from Points to Knockout. I was a lot more hype watching the points Semis because it felt like they were "driving to win," where in knockout it feels more like "driving not to lose." Which is cool for Cup of the Day but not something I want to see at the top level competition.
I think it works for cup of the day because you only play 1 map and the maps are of a level that pace starts to matter for a significant part of the tourny. with changing maps you're effectively just gambling on maps you're consistent and then pray the last map is one you have good pace.
@@TheInfectous True. I also felt a lot more excitement behind CarlJR getting finalist and then having to still beat the entire field to win, or Richie getting finalist and then failing twice against the field. I like seeing the winner WIN, instead of watching others fail them into winning.
Damn. Having the nerves to win this after being on one heart for almost all the final is insane. I expected him to reach fourth or fifth, but he actually outlasted all of them.
