Forward Health is a heavily tech-enabled concierge healthcare provider that is reimagining the way healthcare is provided. I’ve been a member for several years, and routinely have used them as an example of creating delightful customer experiences. There’s no waiting room. The physician isn’t typing into a laptop but is focused on you. As you talk with them, the stuff you say gets automatically added to a giant custom screen in the room. Everything about it feels better.
So when Forward founder Adrian Aoun agreed to chat, I was looking forward to diving into the mechanics of the concierge model and how they think about the patient experience. But what quickly became clear was Adrian’s ambition goes far beyond providing creating a successful concierge business. His aims are nothing less than the complete reimagining of how healthcare is provided. In this colorful interview we discuss Adiran’s vision for Forward, why the current healthcare system is broken, and how he envisions for the future.

What about grip strength? That would be a better test than what they do at check ups.

He swears a lot, but I appreciate his forward thinking. My worry here is the amount of issues I have where they have to send me elsewhere to pay. Not having imaging services is going to be a major issue when immediate care centers have x-ray machines. So I have a small bone break. I have to make AN APPOINTMENT elsewhere to get an x-ray, wait several days then back to Forward for them to read the x-ray to then get set and casted? As-is, I like the business plan for either younger people or low risk individuals for preventative care, but for those who need extra (if just mid level) care like stress tests, bone breaks, etc where a specialist may not be necessary yet, this is not the place for you. Forward cannot replace conventional healthcare under the current business model. As a supplement to conventional medicine, it's too expensive. Uninsured people will be hopeful that Forward can save them from $700/month on Obamacare. I totally get that $150 per month is much less than $700 so you should expect less in the way of services, but then why bother If Forward can't provide care up to a certain level we're conventional health care won't be needed. Nice try but I'll pass for now.
