So much better with a 2D vault boy animation! The 3D models definitely felt awkward to look at in the original. Though I would have left the number absent from the vault door to add some more mystique to the video.
I always thought the 3D Vault boy in the original opening was meant to be someone in a mascot costume, with the 2D vault dwellers being drawn in, or cardboard cut outs. Then after the presentation the Vault boy would walk into the schoolroom/auditorium, like McGruff. But watching the original again, I now notice the Vault boy blinks and his mouth moves... so looks like I was wrong.
@@creamlebotrippytrip4168 Just because a game is old doesn't mean everyone's played it. You'd be surprised by how many newer fans haven't even touched the originals.
My favourite intro in this entire post nuclear franchise. A soothing up beat song contrasted with an innocent family of Vault Dwellers being gunned down by Enclave troops.
@ArianaariasPrietoyeah but he was exiled, so there would be no way he would be able to not have a "mutie" as a son, and the only other way he could be would be if the dweller became part of the enclave which we know he didn't because he founded arroyo
@@Sucullentbutter Yeah agreed on that and to add onto it, there would be no way the Vault Dweller is any way related to the Enclave. Especially from how their entire lineage is just Arroyo. They're the only descendant from Vault 13 that is in Arroyo hence why they idolize him and his jumpsuit. Especially since that would go against the entire canonical ending and character, but also how after they left Arroyo is presumed to pass away sometime with no trace showing they were part of anything, they were a big figure, hell even the NCR has a statue of them erected because he saved Tandi. Also the Vault Dweller after leaving the village was old. And if you want to believe in that shitty game "Brotherhood of Steel" he is alive and is a old man who just travels. Otherwise he is most definitely died of old age or the wasteland.
@ArianaariasPrieto Although you can make that happen in the first game by picking Bloody Mess, that's not the canon ending. They had to come up with a canon Vault Dweller playthrough from the first game to have a starting point to work with for the second game's plot. So they decided on the best ending for the first game. If I recall right, every town had its best ending. The Vault 13 Overseer got his comeuppance in the end anyway, I think.
I like the original more personally, it does a better job at establishing the unique world of Fallout, especially with the old propaganda and commercials playing off a TV contrasted against a destroyed cityscape. I never got why the Enclave soldiers just opened fire on the Vault dwellers like that, it makes even less sense when you learn they need them alive. Fallout 4 had a good intro -visually-, some great visualisations of things like the power armour etc.
I do love the Interplay/Obsidian Fallout games but to give credit where it's due, Fallout 4 actually had a really cool intro. Though I would've preferred a different voice actor.
@@0lionheart If I'm not mistaken the enclave were looking for vault inhabitants untouched by radiation. vault 13 got open two times, for the original vault dweller to leave and then to bring back the water chip. this means that for the enclave's purity plan it was more interesting to... "remove" them. I prefer this second intro. I think that the first one is better for the first title, but this is fallout 2, so it makes sense for me to them to stablish more complex worldbuilding elements as the first game already did the job of laying the foundation. but yeah, the first intro is amazing too

Nice job! Im surprised this dosent have more views! It was kinda goofy when they opened the vault door and they were all standing in the default model position but other than that, nice work!
SPOILERS I think one of the many genius aspects to this intro is how it connects to the story. In reality, the Enclave just want test subjects for the extermination FEV, but you obviously wouldn't know any of this on your first time viewing.
