I’m an Army vet; 37F. Thank you so much for this lesson. Super simple and no chord requires more than 2 fingers! Yet is sounds amazing as a stand alone acoustic piece. Much better than the standard tuning versions I’ve heard. I’m gonna drop tune my dad’s guitar tomorrow and teach him this. You have some walk down notes and mutings that you play but don’t teach. But I figured them out. I’m going to learn your Beatles’ song in this tuning next. And I found a Joe Banamossa song lesson in Dm too. Great job! And great open tuning.
Mike, I love your lessons. I've been playing for 35 years and I have about 25 original songs in my current set. Since COVID I've not been able to write any songs so, I decide to learn some covers. About 50% of my covers in my set are songs learned from you! I even have a 15 minute set of original songs in open Dm - And, had no idea Eleanor Rigby and this song was in the same tuning. I can honestly say that watching your video lessons are probably one of the few productive things I do on UA-cam. Otherwise, I'm practicing. You tube can be a rabbit hole of nothing. Also love your vibe and calmness in instruction. I've got a new Marshall Code 50 amp with channel switching pedal someone gave me. Tell me where to send it for Guitars for Veterans. I will send it. Beautiful song that really does good job of capturing the emotion of someone trapped in the meat grinder that can be the American working class and constantly wanting more than you can obtain. Hints at some of the spiritual pitfalls of capitalist materialism that have become a lot more evident in our modern culture as well.
Thanks Mykal! That’s very close to an open C, but with string 1 at D (sus 2) instead of E. I just tuned to it and like it. Thanks, and take care over there.

Just discovered your videos, watched and learned Last Train to Clarksville, now making my way through. So here's the thing--you show the beauty of learning to f(&% with tunings and capos across 5 strings, etc., to HEAR the sound of the guitar. Even beginning players can see how cool it SOUNDS to do that add 2, or the add 9. Sure, you can do those things in standard, but you don't get the same harmonic resonances with the open strings that you can in various open tunings. I play in several open tunings and know them well, but I have never played in this one. So I am watching you and thinking, wonder what happens if you slide that 2 up to a 4, maybe then a 5? I don't have my guitar with me right now, so I have to wonder, but I know if THAT doesn't sound great, SOMETHING like it will. You're giving me what I need to know to hear the guitar for myself. I want to give lessons where I teach 2 or 3 other tunings pretty much along with standard. Nice work, Mike. I like your videos, and I am not always complimentary of instructional videos on here!
