      Ultimately, though, Rescue 2 obeyed the command and got off the top floor. When a lieutenant and a deputy chief disagree, the deputy chief usually gets his way.

      @@kentlaxfors421 They aren't waiting because they want to. They are waiting because they don't have the manpower. The 1st due engines already grabbed hydrants and stretched lines. You need an engine to stretch a line and to supply the tower. You aren't going to lay LDH hose by hand. They also have to wait for everyone to evacuate the fire floor. You don't put water onto a fire from the exterior with people inside. That creates a very dangerous situation. They had water on the fire well before the tower went into operation.

      At the command post you will have the 1st due battalion chief and division chief at command post…. 2nd Alarm gets another Battalion Chief that gets assigned as RUL which is Resource Unit Leader. 3rd Alarm gets the Citywide Tour Commander that can be a Deputy Asst Chief or Asst Chief. 4th Alarm gets another Asst Chief or Chief of Ops. 5th Alarm gets the Chief of Dept at his discretion

    For us Europeans, we don't understand the American urban firefighting system. First they let the fire grow out of control and then they attack it with water.

    • @Mk99987
      @Mk99987 Рік тому

      FDNY does an interior attack, searching for victims. They cant start with an exterior line, it would drive the fire inside.

    • @thenussbaum44
      @thenussbaum44 Рік тому +3

      They are old school. Go inside and fight it that way. I think that's a good idea, but with that much fire they should hit it from the outside to knock it down and then go inside. Keep in mind that they have a lot of tall buildings and that's the only way to do it is go inside.

    • @robertkerner4833

      This is FDNY not Europe…

    • @gigla3
      @gigla3 Рік тому +6

      Good question. And for starters just like like they said above this would have been a good idea to knock it from the outside then proceed in, which we call a transitional attack. I dont not have a solid answer for ya, but we REALLY emphasize life as our number 1 priority. A couple of things though...we realize the severity of burns that you get from steam and in the ideal scenario we like to have an engine company and truck company in there simultaneously completing extinguishment and confinement, and search and removal, placing the hoseline between the victims and the fire. This is a perfect scenario that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. And It would be pointless to do if our victims are either steam burned or succumbed to smoke inhalation because we took too long outside. Thus we classify our style as aggressive firefighting. Unfortunately our duty is a necessary evil. If we take on a passive approach and always stick to hitting it from the outside, we pose the risk of our perishable skills and training becoming lost and void. FDNY is for the most part pretty consistent with the amount of actual work (fires) they get while other places in the North Eastern America may not see as much. So what happens when it's actually a confirmed entrapment or a downed firefighter that we have to retrieve but can't because we lack the skill and experience?

      Rubbish they should be using air anytime they are inside a smoke filled building no matter how thick it is. For a European firefighter, educated up to date fire fighting science, these NYC videos are so painful to watch. Feels like prehistoric footage. 😢 OMG what's wrong there?

      Europe... Where most are afraid to go interior and still use glorified garden hoses to try and fight fires

      @@virgilhilts3924 Europe where we use science instead of tradition. And therefore know that every 5 to 30 seconds means a doubling of fire - by the cubic nature of space. And therefore we go with our little hoses and use water out of the tender very quickly onto the fire. Instead of endless build ups. It works, proven by physics and mathematics. We rarely need the big hoses, however trust me, we have them - but we don't need to show them around to compensate...
      But yeah, prehistoric approaches work fine to end the fire too by burning down buildings. So continue with the US arrogance 🤷🏻‍♂️ as long as you don't burn down our houses everything is fine 😅

      Had to wait until the 2nd alarm companies arrived. Engine company has to supply the tower ladder hydrant was at the end of the block. Roof firefighter was on the roof ladder needs to be there to get off roof.
