Currently own two. At 68 y/o they're throw backs to my youth. Great little simple cars. I have a 67 and a 73 SB. 67 first year of 12 volt in USA. Yours looks great. Red brick interior with beige paint nice combo. Enjoy.
I have an inherited Diamond Blue 69 Beetle so I especially enjoyed your video. Mine is in very similar condition and have been slowly replacing rubber seals, window scrapers etc. Fun cars to own and drive for sure
Such a beautiful car! Basically, anyone I speak to from the Baby Boomer generation had this as their first car. Now, you very rarely see one on the streets. There were still a lot of them around when I was young, in the 90s. Love from Germany!
This model year I had, way back in 1972. It was of course used. My dad helped me to buy it from one of his work friends back in, I think, late March of '72. Mine was a dark green color with a roll-crank sun roof (which I enjoyed a lot) The car was fun to drive yet had one bad problem: oil consumption, big time. I was told by Clarence, who sold me the car, that VW had reconfigured the engine bore and stroke size, which started actually in 1968. I had unfortunately, the engine to blow on my way back home from church (which was some 25 miles away and traveled to and from mostly by Interstate). Clarence attempted to fix the car...took him a long time to finally get it to be satisfactory. One thing for sure...that "Bug" was fun to drive when I was 21! I'd do it again but, modify that car with a more powerful engine and several things. This one, reviewed...looks pretty good. I hope it gets several things fixed to mke it a real beauty.
After getting it running properly it is an absolute blast to drive. I wonder if the issue you described was what caused the original engine to fail even with good maintenance.
Ive been a big fan of vw's for a long time and owned a 63 long ago and longer ago when I was 7 I rode in pops 57 type 2 pickup the model with the single cab rear bed feature. That was in 1959 when we'd shuttle down and cruise out on pops boat and catch yellowtail in mexico at the Coronado Islands 🏝 Anyway you own such a great car ❤ and I rode in 1 of those too in high school. Ive even drove the thing model too. 😁
Very first car I drove ( older brothers car back in the day). I ended up with one ( auto/ clutch). Fun to drive. Very simplistic car for basic transportation.
One good advice, before turning the key for starting the motor! If the car was in 1 gear, or any else and you did not press the clutch… In winter even better to press the clutch to the metal, that disconnects the motor from the gearbox, that gives the starter less resistance and starts easier.
Absolutely the case but sometimes a step I skip if I know it’s in neutral. In the hot Mississippi summer the added resistance of the transmission in neutral barely adds any effect for the starter to overcome.
My 17 year old daughter is looking at getting her first car. At first she wanted a classic vw bug. But after finding out that classic cas don’t have modern features we re focused on a 2nd gen bug from the 90s early 2000
Definitely could make an excellent first car if one is willing to forgo all the modern tech. Good luck with your 2nd gen, they’re fun cars when running properly.
Simple, easily worked on, ultra reliable. What's not to like? I will never understand why only performance cars have an actual oil pressure gauge, by the time the oil pressure drops enough for the warning light to come on it's too late to prevent engine damage.
I have a 72 bug and I so much prefer to drive it over a modern car, you just get pure joy driving these beautiful quirky cars, its the sound the design and for a 52 year old car its so comfortable to drive 😎😎
I had a 69 Westy van for awhile, seeing the gear shift pattern on the ashtray made my heart hurt. If you think the manual shift is hard to find on a bug, try first gear on a bus. I replaced all the bushings and every part I could find and you still had to fish for it. I miss that machine
I definitely thought there was legislation for it at some point but I still run into enough cars new and old without it that it was surprising to see on a car that age.
I have no idea if the AC works or not, the belts been off the entire time I’ve owned it. I’m sure it worked better than nothing down here in a Mississippi summer but probably not well compared to modern standards. Now that I’ve got it running properly I’ll give getting the air going a whirl in the spring. And being an r12 compressor that size I’d not be the least bit surprised if it sucked 10 or 15 horsepower.
I had a Peru green 1969 automatic stick beetle Volkswagen without any left peddle it was shifting by just using your right foot of the gasoline pedal three speed shift with air condition unit recalled because of stalling was it a bad automobile not really once I was stuck at a red light had to open rear motor hood replace on top left a horizontal fuse reconnect one wire it was fine vws were basically simple automobiles as all cars should be wrongs for one are where auto makers put turn signals hard to see if used at all two why have automatic brake systems foot brakes only less to go wrong three small windows mirrors hats to see four we should not have mucho elictronic gadgets easier to kill your batteries we had when I first learn to drive no power steering windows elrically
No heated seats or door mirrors electronic power to set mirrors properly to see use to be cigarette lighters no more curb feelers on right side bottom of cars so you knew going close to curbs I want back windshield wipers back on top in the open bottom of windshield not hidden in openings why no bumpers that bump to protect your cars why bumper gauards when bumpers donot protect your cars mucho stupidity we have on our cars when they are made please see my past present comments we complicate things as how they are made harder to fix longer times mucho dinero cost was nicer when a faster fix less dinero
That is a super nice VW drive it with pride.
I'm Enjoying the video of your Volkswagen from Gulfport Ms.

I’ve wanted one for years, glad I was able to rekindle some good memories for you. Thank you for the kind words.

Very cool!

The slap on the taglight loll. I love these old cars!
Works without fail too.

What a wonderful story, thank you for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video.

My dads mom had one with the auto stick transmission, they loved it.
1st car in '75. The rocker panels were rusted out then (Yankee car). Good memories regardless. Thank you.
Glad I could bring back some good memories for you. That northern salt really is a killer.

Looks just like my toga white 69, except I have the german version with metal dash and low seats. Same interior color. I love the white and red combo.
I do too actually.
Simple, easily worked on, ultra reliable. What's not to like? I will never understand why only performance cars have an actual oil pressure gauge, by the time the oil pressure drops enough for the warning light to come on it's too late to prevent engine damage.
Most cars that have a gauge are just a switch, either you have pressure or not. Ford loved to do that and it’s no better than the idiot light.

Glad you are back! Subscriber since the Shady Dell Trailer video. 🚗
I appreciate that, it’s been a long few years. Hopefully will get some new stuff filmed as my narration skills have gotten better over time.
great video thanks for sharing! would be great to see a pedal cam of it driving on the road too!
Appreciate the kind words, will definitely be doing that come spring after the rain washes the salt off the roads now that it’s up here in NE Ohio.
I had exactly the same model/colour inside out. I miss it.
I’m sure I’ll miss this one too when it finally goes to a new home.
1969 was the year that all cars sold in America had to have a steering wheel ignition lock.
I definitely thought there was legislation for it at some point but I still run into enough cars new and old without it that it was surprising to see on a car that age.
I had the same year only in Savannah beige. My aunt had this identical car.
Me too
very nice
Thanks
Does the A/C actually work decently? I have to imagine the compressor just drains any power, which was already minimal

Being an R12 compressor, if you recharged it with R134, it would probably give you a feeble amount of cooling.
❤❤❤❤❤
5:03 can't fix modern cars like this anymore
*1967 was the first year for 12 volt.*
Would explain why the 12 vol stickers are so prominently displayed.
What is the generic name of the Colours of this vw?
Toga White
That sounds right as I recall.
The black key is only for a Golf etc after 1974!
I didn’t know that, I have two and they only fit the rear hood.
Wow, your engine runs ROUGH! Are you sure you are using the correct plugs for an air-cooled engine??

My dads mom had a 66 with the auto stick transmission and gas heater. Your absolutely right about the simple construction.
Bought a new one in 74 for 2000.
As I recall the old man paid $1,900 and change for this one in 69.
54 year 2023 55 year2024
You got it.
No 1973 1303
I bought one a few weeks ago, still waiting for the shipping because of the hurricane on florida to ship it to puerto rico, its my first car🫡
Hope you enjoy it!
