    Hey, thanks for sharing this. My car has been leaking now for about a year, and my mechanic was making it seem like a big deal to fix. Was fed up with all the oil spots on my driveway so decided to get under the car and take a look myself. When I saw it was leaking from the oil filter housing, I figured it was something like this. Gonna do it myself now that I saw your video - really appreciate it - thanks for saving me some $$$ ! ! !👍

    Thank you for sharing your job - I like that you were very specific about the sockets to use and the Torque needed..

    Dude, thank you so much for this vid! My wife's 07 M35x has this same leak. The dealer wanted a few hundred to fix it. I will get this knocked out next weekend, probably along with doing the spark plugs, which they wanted a ton of $$$ for too.
    Also, since it's all-wheel drive it has a front driveshaft. She was hearing a clunking noise at low speed. Dealer said the u-joint on the front shaft was going out. They wanted OVER $2000 in parts and labor!! I bought a new, complete shaft assembly online for $120. Since I couldn't safely do this job in my driveway, I found a local at home mechanic that had a vehicle lift. Friend of a friend. He did the job and only charged me $100. Yeah, dealers charge insane prices, lol.

    Update: It's been 12 months since I did this fix and I haven't had the problem again. I'm so glad I did it myself and saved all that money.
    From now on, I'm taking my car in for an oil change to the dealer so they can do their complimentary inspection and tell me what's wrong with the car and then do the repairs myself.
    This is a good way to stick it to the dealerships that rip everyone off. We've all felt it before no matter how loyal and honest you think your dealer or mechanic is.

    Super job in presentation and explanation- I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why I was loosing oil- this was it (found after searching for m35 oil leak)

      @alejandro - just curious - did you clean the sludge from your cooler adapter prior to removing it? Mine was coated, ended up removing coolant hoses and wiping down the whole assembly and the engine mating area behind it as I was so worries that the crud/grime would fall into the connection/mating area and make for a crappy seal. (crossing my fingers, just got mine finished last night)

      @@rurban01 Sorry, never saw this comment until now. I only wiped the drum down with a paper towel and a little water. I never disconnected any hoses. I didn't want to add much more work since I was losing daylight and I was in the parking lot of an Autozone.

    I had an overheating issue the guy I bought it from stated it was the radiator because he changed the water pump and thermostat I noticed oil in the coolant but no blown or bad head gaskets I burped the system and changed the engine oil cooler gasket and now I have no more overheating just for any of you who are having the same issue

    Any chance that adapter that you pull out with the 22mm bolt could go bad? My dealership says mine needs to be replaced, but the part is on back order. I'm going to try the gasket myself and see what happens but I'm afraid I may run into stripped threads at this point and just make it worse.

    • @alextv8975
      @alextv8975  7 років тому

      Just like any piece that screws, the threading may damage if screwed improperly. If that's the case, then maybe the female piece it screws into could be damaged as well. Then You'll have double the trouble. Just be careful when screwing it back in. When screwing back in, do it with your hand so you can get the best feel of it. It should screw in with no resistance. If you feel resistance, take out and try again. Once you screwed it in smoothly with your hand, then use the wrench.
      Worst case scenario is that the mechanic that worked on your car screwed up the threading themselves but won't admit it and told you that the damage was already done. This is why I don't trust mechanics. If it's a small job, I do it myself. I don't need them worsening an easy problem so they can make more money. What sucks even more is that you can't sit there and watch them work.

    Did your oil light come on to cause you to do This? I had my oil changed about 5 days ago and just yesterday the oil light came on. I popped the hood and could see on the skid plate there was a leak

    • @alextv8975
      @alextv8975  5 років тому

      I found out when I went for an oil change and the mechanic told me. The details in their receipt said it was the oil cooler seal. So I looked it up and repaired it myself. My engine light never came on.

    My 07 Infiniti M35x is leaking oil & a little smoke is coming from inside the engine bay somewhere. When I turn on the heat you can smell it in the car. Do you think that this is my problem as well?

    you think this problem could be on a 2004 G35 coupe?
    i have an oil leak too

    • @alextv8975
      @alextv8975  7 років тому +1

      Absolutely. All cars can experience this when that gasket becomes old.
      I suggest you go into the Infiniti dealership for your next oil change. The oil change only costs around $30 to $40. The dealership will run their quick inspection and print out all the problems they find. (They do this as an investment. They do it free in hopes that you will pay them for the repairs instead of a local repair shop.) They're going to try to make you feel like your car is in a crisis but don't give in to that. Just take the printed inspection report, enjoy the complimentary car wash, and see if they put the oil cooler gasket on the list.
      If they don't find the leak at all, which I highly doubt, you should get under there, clean away all the dirtiness on and around the filter and oil cooler and see where it's leaking from. If you don't see a visible leak, then check back in a few days. You should see it by then.

    What did the dealer quote you for fixing this? This looks easy enough but due to time constraints I had to pay it so spilled milk. But good video nonetheless

    • @alextv8975
      @alextv8975  7 років тому

      The oil change alone was $30, the 1 hour labor fee was $130, and the gasket was approximately $10. So I avoided paying their $170+ tax charge. Doing it myself, I paid $25 for the 5 quart oil, $8 for the filter, and $10 for the gasket.

    • @rtucker1004
      @rtucker1004 6 років тому

      Infiniti of Chantilly VA quoted $210 to change the oil cooler o-ring. I argued with them to include the oil change in this price because they can't change the o-ring without draining the oil. They agreed to charge only for the additional parts (oil and filter), without the labor of an oil change.
      Where they really get you is that repair items will include duplicated services. For example, there is the charge for their time to remove the lower steel shield (whatever that is called) in all work that happens from under the car. When you get multiple items serviced you are paying multiple times for them to remove the shield one time.
      Infiniti corporate (Japan) charges outrageous prices for the parts to the dealers, which get marked up to us. Example, buying TPMS transmitters at a dealer are over $250 EACH! It's a $50 part. "Sorry sir, it's what Japan charges us". Even while getting new tires installed from the dealer (on a good sale) they would not lower their price on the built in labor charge to install the TPMS transmitters. Yes, dealerships make a fortune in the service department.
      Kudos to you for doing this job on your own.

    My 2004 g35 coupe 3.5 is over heating and its leaking the coolant (green liquid) by the same area by oil filter, is this what it could be?

    • @alextv8975
      @alextv8975  6 років тому

      iiCheVyy X . Not exactly. If you look at that drum that the filter screws onto, there are two hoses attached to it. Coolant runs through those hoses. If the leak is coming from there, then go in and see if the hoses are rotting away or if it is just a connection problem with those hoses that is causing the leak.
      What I fixed was an oil leak, not coolant leak. My leak had nothing to do with the hoses.

      @TrashPanda5150 3 роки тому +1

      I hope you didn't replace the cooler. Unless it was damaged it is highly unlikely that the cooler itself was bad. It's just a small housing that coolant passes through. The oil leak is just the o-ring shown in this video.
