Thanks Tim....I appreciate the way you do what you do...the best music , coolest rides etc. Please , be you ? I watch because of that , thanks again for the share !
A huge Thank you Tim, I just finished my first 2 day bike packing ride, and it was amazing because of your videos and tips, you Sir are Handsome and Powerful, Cheers.
Good evening Tim, Extremely kind of you to take the time to reply to a complete stranger.... You are a gentleman. I did some gravel riding summer 2023. I cycled, among other routes, the Green Velo trail, in Poland. Fantastic riding/camping. I highly recommend it. So yes, I would use the Camera for stills and video. I will check out your recomendations. Regards, Neil
Nice ride and camp. Absolutely every bike loads and handles differently whether touring or packing groceries about town. I have Surly Bridge Club 27.5 and a 97 Scott Santa Cruz 700c wide tire, both touring bikes, and they pack entirely different. Get it wrong, and you have a wobbling goblin.
Really digging this. Giving me a lot of nostalgic vibes. Haven't lived in Ohio for almost 20 years, but use to live in that gray house across the street from campus @12:53. And use to go to West Branch when I was a kid. I'm in the Northern Rockies now, and it's pretty awesome. But man, Ohio is pretty awesome too. Cheers.
Tim nice holiday ride! On the Finger Lakes ride try to swim the in the waterfalls pool at Treman State Park, The Black Diamond Trail from Cass Park, Ithaca to Taughannock Falls is very scenic. The best sunsets are seen going West from the East, otherwise you will be riding in the afternoon shadows and hard to see. There are waterfalls and gorges everywhere. The Erie Canal is not far from the North end of the Lakes either.
We have our rough route planned as we already booked our campsites. We will be hitting Ithaca, Taughannock Falls and Watkins Glenn - we have built in some hiking/swimming time. I've been to the Finger Lakes a few times but no one else has yet.
Growing up in Y-town, West Branch was "the lake" when my mom would say "we're going to the lake!" Never even thought about camping there. Also been going up to finger lakes for years, if you need advice on food/drink. Also some great riding in Finger Lakes National Forest. I also went to Kent for one year and dropped out!
Nice. I have been to the Finger Lakes a number of times too but no one else in the crew has. We have all of our camping spots booked - just need to fill in our lunch spots. Cheers!
Hi Tim, nice video, very informative, it looks like you guys had a great time? I live in Sweden, and unfortunately Sweden doesn't seem to have a big recreational bicycle culture.
Haven't been out to West Branch in ages - I thought they converted all of their primitive camping into RV @ 100$/night. Miss the old days there - might have to go back. Secret Kent trail is on the todo list.
Definitely a lot of RVs. Not sure if there was any other primitive spots besides the group sites? The Kent loop across the trail from the Moon Tower trails is one of my faves - quick, smoothish drop.
Hi again Tim. I saw on your profile that you are a professional photographer. I hope you don't mind me asking you the following question. I'm a bicycle tour guy, not yet tried bike packing, maybe I'm old school, but I tour with a 4 pannier set up. I've never made a UA-cam video, or any video actually, but I would like to. Would you mind recommending a quality camera for a beginner, but would also work for me when I get more experience. I'm not talking about an action camera, but I do want to get one of those too. Hopefully, Neil.
If the four pannier set up works for you there is no reason to change it. I've done a couple of off-road(bikepacking) tours and I probably wouldn't do it with my low rider panniers again - but I will be using them on the road this summer. Action cam recommendations are easy - always get the latest GoPro. When it comes to a "quality camera for a beginner" are you thinking more for stills or video or a bit of both? I often ride with a Canon R8 on my back. It is really great because it is reasonably small but with a big amazing sensor. I use it with smaller, cheaper lenses but it can also mount my pro lenses if needed.
In my early days as a rider in a group I had the experience of being "dropped", when I used to ride with competitive riders. Being "dropped" is somthing that only those who have been a part of the subculture, will fully understand. Sound advice about a "shakedown" tour, yes its a must.
We did a couple wait ups after the bigger climbs but it wasn’t much of an issue for most of the ride. I come to events like this expecting Party Pace so when we do move a little faster it is nice. My group ride was not with racers but we used to drop each other all the time - even if we were wearing jeans.
He built that up because he didn’t have anything capable of the North Country Traverse last year and he rides it a lot now. He loves it. (He will be on the livestream tonight with it 5/30)
Great story! There are some great looking and comfort inducing sweep bars on this ride. It would be great to hear a little about them. (I'm just guessing at one being the Simworks Ramble bar?) Anyway, peace!
I think Brad just put the Ramble on his BridgeClub - he was running the Granola Bars like I am before. I’m not sure I want to go wider but I do want to try his set up.
I’ve only done camping rides with one bike, my old Fuji touring bike. It handled better with a load than unloaded. I’m curious to see how my new bike handles the load this summer.
Nice outing. Wife and I did a camp outing on our tandem over Memorial Day. What handlebar are you using? Looks comfortable. Currently running a Jones H Bar. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I don’t. Thanks.
These are the Velo Orange Granola Bars - I like them a lot. Haven't felt a need to try out other bars though I have ridden some friends bikes with even wider sweeps which felt interesting. I did ride this bike when it was built with some Whiskey Mustache bars which were rad - but too spendy for me.
You mentioned riding 10 miles you have never ridden. Do you keep track of all of the roads you have ever ridden? If so, what do you use? Love the videos, and seeing some awesome spots in Ohio.
Thanks! Yes - we are kinda obsessed with Wandrer.earth - it is a site that links to your Strava and shows you everywhere you’ve ridden and has a game aspect about new miles. Strava heat maps kind of does this but I love the map on Wandrer - I pay for the premium version.
That looks like a Lilac Surly Midnight Special. I’d be interested to know what (under the) top tube bag and the bike size she has. I’m looking for one for my size 50 MS
I had a Amazon truck go left of center, and i crashed into.it on Monday. I'm not bragging or complaining. I messed up my arms and especially crushed my ribs on my right side. My helmet never came into play. My ribs are fucked. Wear a helmet and have a great day my friends. Protect your brain... or don't. It will all be good. I grew up destroying my body skateboarding... no helmet and no pads. I'm 55 ,and doing fine.
What the hell are you even talking about? I was using it as a jumping off point to talk about how different bikes handle differently depending on how you load them. Some people love to make definitive statements that just aren't true for everything. If someone makes a stupid comment that disregards the point of the video it shows they are a troll and not adding anything of value to the conversation. Go watch Vegan Cyclist and leave us alone.
Thanks Tim....I appreciate the way you do what you do...the best music , coolest rides etc. Please , be you ? I watch because of that , thanks again for the share !
It’s impressive to see so many bike trails. I don’t have very many in the Deep South Texas area.
We don’t have the greatest infrastructure in our cities but we do have a ton of trails and paths.
A huge Thank you Tim, I just finished my first 2 day bike packing ride, and it was amazing because of your videos and tips, you Sir are Handsome and Powerful, Cheers.
Heck yeah! Thanks!
Thanks for these videos. Very cool.
This type of riding is just my speed!
It was a great overnighter. Thanks so much!

Cool. I'm inspired to try a bike camp, which I've never done. 2 of my favorite hobbies. Bike & Bushcraft? A new genre! We'll see 🙂 Nice trip.
It’s the best- really is. You can just cover so much ground and see such cool places
Watching these videos really makes me want to try alt bars. Looks perfect for touring.
They are great for comfortable riding!

100% - I kept trying to make my vintage Trek work but it was unstable and made my hands hurt.
Love to see the different set-ups and bikes people are riding - feeds my n+1!
Great video. Tree City Coffee is terrific! Thanks for the tour of Kent’s campus. A lot has changed since my time there finished in ‘01.
Also - enjoy the Finger Lakes! I frequently go to Canandaigua, NY, love that region!
I don’t cut through campus often but I went in ‘98 and definitely very different!

For the finger lakes, Watkins Glen State Park is a must see. The most crazy hiking trail I’ve ever seen.
We are camping there. I’ve hiked it twice before. We are having a short day that day because I did want the others to be able to see it.
Cheers!
Another awesome watch... thanks Tim!
Great video ! You and your friends know how to have fun !! Great to hear that the weather was really a non issue . Thanks for sharing !
We were so lucky! Sitting alone in my tent is not what I wanted to do and I’m glad I didn’t have to!

Tim, you just make so much sense. Keep on trucking !

Great point on the opinions on bike setups. I like to play around with different loaded setup options to the point of over analysis.
I did some uncomfortable tours before I figured things out - but I still tinker!

This is great to see! I’d love to do this. I’m a newer cyclist and must work my way up to it first
A good way to try it out is to just pack lightly and get and Air BnB or cabin. See if you like it before investing in all the camping gear.
@@TimFitzwater good idea!
I have a cabin 45 miles away. I’ll start ringing there !
Great content as always Tim ... =)
Ahh I was hoping to make this one. My dark realm basket bag was on brian’s rockhopper tho 💜
We were chatting about both knowing you.

Were they non-smiling road dicks? Were they all stock brokers?

So what is being dropped? They just move on and forget about you I guess?
@@Macuhdohnadadoh That's why I'm strictly solo I guess. I'm like a big tortoise.

Next up, bike fishing. Then bike fish camping.
Ya know - I fished as a kid but haven’t been interested as an adult. I’ll be honest- I’m vegetarian at home and not sure I could unhook fish. 🤷🏻♂️
